Title: Another new magic system...
Post by: Wensleydale on July 29, 2006, 07:27:06 AM
Yeah, what it says. Yet another one. :P

This system is much more dynamic than even the regular spells/mysteries/powers etc. It's based around four things: Levels, effects, mana, extensions. Mana is used to power effects, which can scale by level... but let me explain.

Say we have a mage. He wants to set fire to a man right in front of him. Let's say it costs him four mana points to deal 2D6 points of fire damage, an extra two points to set him alight, and no points for range (ranged touch attacks, area effects etc are called Extensions; almost like metamagic.)

However, say he wants to create his own demiplane... he's level 4, and that effect is way beyond his capabilities. If he attempts to do that, he wastes mana points and fails to do it, leaving him fatigued.

More coming! Suggestions? Thoughts?

Xeviat has a pretty good mana point system already fully developed. Check it out (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.22)

Nice. That means I don't have to do the Mana Point progression myself.

One of the best things about Mana points, spell points etc is that you can give a race the 'Naturally Magical' trait. :P
