I figured, "Hey, I have no clue what half of these people's avatars mean. Why not just have everyone drop by a thread and share the significance of their pixelated representation?"
So, there you have it.
Currently, my avatar is Ultimate Rugal (aka God-Rugal) from Capcom vs. SNK 2: EO. The premise is that the King of Fighters recurring villain Rugal has absorbed all of the Street Fighter villain Akuma's ki energy and become near-omnipotent.
mine is something i translated into the elven language, then changed to elven script.
if youre familiar with the language, try downloading an elven font to figure out what it says (hint: the first word is the meaning of my real name. hint 2: all letters are lowercase)
Kewl. Looks like a guilty gear character... Never heard of this Rugal guy, but he eats Akumas so he's gotta be awesome.
Mine's the tour poster for the KMFDM WWIII Amerikan Tour. It was the first concert I ever went to, and the first KMFDM concert I went to. I was deaf for a week, and I've been a diehard KMFDM fan since. Plus, it just looks kewl. Machine Gunner!
Well, a cuirassier is a type of cavalryman equipped with a cuirass, a type of armor consisting of a breastplate and backplate.
Mine's an album cover from Motorhead. Some years ago when I was registering in this other forum I was thinking of a username and I was listening to the song Hellraiser by Motorhead, and I had always liked it so... there you have it. It's been a while now since that day but everyone I met (and meet, still) knows me by Hellraiser and I figured what the heck, let's use the first avatar I ever used on a forum once more.
Umm, I'm stargate525, and thats the stargate. If you want to read even further into it, I'm the 525th one out there...?
It's what I look like.
Well, what I looked like nearly three years ago, when I made that picture for my job applications...
It's a turtle!
I was in a bad mood, a bit of frothing feminist rage over something or the other, when finally getting around to uploading an avatar.
So it had to be the pussy power one.
Image shamelessly stolen from a sinfest cartoon to make an LJ icon, and it'll do here too, for now... Since I can't decide between cowthulhu or bouncing kobolds with chicken.
... I don't have an avatar... :(
I'll lend you my 'bouncing kobold with chicken' if you want?
(No, it's not just that I like using the phrase 'bounding koblod with chicken', not at all... 'bouncing kobold with chicken' is a very nice phrase though, you should try it. All together now ' bouncing kobold with chicken'.
Bouncing Kobold with Chicken!
I suppose I should add the image at some point.
Bouncing kobold with chicken. Art by John Kovalich, animated with permission for the use in icons and avatars.
I wonder who is bouncing said kobold. And why?
You need a reason to bounce kobolds?
Mine is the Japanese version of the Initial D logo. Initial D is a manga/anime/live-action movie about drift racing.
My Avatar right now is that of Seth, an alcoholic vampire from the Keenspot comic Sorcery 101. My other avatars from the past and future will probably be products of photoshop and puns on my username.
It's a phoenix drawn for me using charcoals by a friend years ago.
As part of his user avatar charity project, Luminous Crayon found this nice picture of Tuor on an audience with Ulmo. Thinking it was Túrin, he offered it to me as an avatar. Despite it not being Túrin, I took it, though sooner or later I'll likely change it to a picture of Túrin.
Tuor, Túrin and Ulmo are from Tolkien's Silmarillion, for those not in the know.
Túrin
Mine is the cover of the Sigur Ros ep "viorar vel ti loftarasa" (hope i spelt that right. wish i could actually speak icelandic).
it's a crazy alien-angel fetus thing (or something. i dunno. it's probably just a stylised angel, but it reminds me of those big eyed aliens and of a fetus)
mostly, it's just a wicked pic.
EDIT: Changed avatar.
I used the AD&D invisible stalker up untill recently. Then Luminous gave me this one for his user avatar charity. I've become numb to it's creepiness now, but it's cool factor is not fadding. The bright orange realy stands out catches your eye, doesn't it?
The Chaos Star.
Which is not to say that I'm an anarchist. I mean, I like a little mayhem from time to time, but for the most part I'm a rather prudish individual.
Mine was also created by Luminous Crayon after I replied to his charity thread. It's a very interesting picture of a landscape... mixed emotions and thoughts arise from it. At first it seems like it's just a pretty picture, but then you look at it and something doesn't seem right.
I'm not sure what mine means. All I know is that it looked cool, and that was it.
I've also forgotten where it came from. I'll go and take a look now, I guess.
[Edit] Ah yes, it is a handsome picture of Panda-Z, Defender of the Peace. Basis of several short movies, that I now want to see.
Panda-Z Rocks!
Isawa Tadaka, the Phoenix Clan's Master of Earth from the Legend of the Five Rings setting.
Avatar Regeneration!
Now my avatar is Discworld's very own Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, Lord Havelock Vetinari, and his faithful dog, Wuffles.
I have an avatar. I just do not have a picture of it.
I used an invisible stalker for awhile, then I shifted to a dark templar, then a cloaked ghost, and then a ninja using Ghost Step. Now I use "Om."
Mine's a photochopped crayon; I made it myself. I guess it's sort of glowy?
Invisible Stalker people, I'm taking a moment to pimp my thread. (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?11478) It's for you.
My avatar is poseidon or neptune. I don't remember which :P
My avatar is an Elder from the Phaedoras Campaign Setting. It was drawn by my brother, Ecniv. I think it fits my minimalist, semi-Zen, near religious obsession with ideas and recreating the past and projecting the future through fiction and storytelling. Or maybe I'm over thinking it again. :hammer:
does he also go by ynniv?
Haha. Say that to his face and he'll eat you. :P
ill take that as a "no", then....
just be glad hes your brother, and not your cousin?
Shadowfell boards alumni will remember my old avatar-- Adam West as Batman. The new avatar is a tribute to the old while incorporating the spirit of the new.

It is good to see the old Westian ideal oot and aboot again.
Certain things can't be kept down no matter how much the man (read: Chuck Norris) tries!
It fills me with nostalgia to see such a relic getting use again. Remember, all good PC's love their relics! ;)
My avatar is a south-park representation of myself. It is how I really look (yeah... that pasty).
Another avatar regeneration, this Happy Cabbage to battle the diseased evil that is the Fiend of the Ninth Cabbage!
Do not fear the Ninth Cabbage! Respect its power!
Quote from: ElDo, Grand Cabbagemaster of the Ninth CircleDo not fear the Ninth Cabbage! Respect its power!

Quote from: ElDo, Grand Cabbagemaster of the Ninth CircleYou see? The Cabal is willing to allow all sorts of vegetables perish in their mindless pursuit!
Some vegetables are more equal than others.
Some exist merely to serve as green manure to aid in the flourishing of the Chosen.
All vegetables are but a segment of a greater philosophy! A metaphor and a portion of ideology, not a haphazard component that can be so hastily discarded!
Except for lettuce. Lettuce serves to purpose but to give contrast to the real veggies.
Tell that to the alfalfa and the buckwheat, callously grown only to be plowed under to become fodder for more worthy vegetables. Like the cabbage.
IA IA! CABBAGE FTHGAN!
Mine is a self-created version of the Initial D logo. (You know, the manga/anime/live-action movie about drift racing?)
Because its so small:
[ã'šÂ¤Ã£Æ''¹Ã£'šÂ·Ã£Æ'£ãÆ'«] (Inisharu; Initial)
é Âæ'"'¡Ã¥Â'"D (Kashiramoji D; Initial D)
(If it looks like jibberish here (i.e. not like the picture), you don't have Asian fonts installed.)
The "ã'šÂ¤Ã£Æ''¹Ã£'šÂ·Ã£Æ'£ãÆ'«/Initial" above indicates a non-standard reading of the characters below. D is short for "drift" or "drifting" in both English and Japanese. A good article on drifting can be found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drifting_%28motorsport%29).
Wow, Wix. If that is a Southpark representation of yourself, I want to see the real you. Can I have your phone number?

word of advice: if your avatar is of a hot asian chick, dont say its a poorly-drawn cartoon rendition of yourself. especially around (potentially) single gamers.
"hot asian chick"? "poorly drawn cartoon"? "single gamers"? wow.... this post has such a frequent redundancy that it repeats itself quite often....
ummm... talking about this one...
I change my avi like every two days or so. I just like this chick... yeah...look what you started, Turin.

Wait. Am I on record?
Rael, is there something you're trying to tell us?
Erm... I gotta go... on vacation... yeah.
No Raelf, not... oh wait, he's gone.
Mine is a portrait of Klemens Metternich who, although a bit *too* autocratic for my tastes, nonetheless matches well with my position as the boards' rather fierce anti-populist.
I too lack an avatar to portray my glorious self. actually i just have like a phobia with settling with one thing so i havent decided on one yet
Mine's currently Black Adam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Adam). He rocks.
And right now... if none of you remember from the ever-popular Xena, starring Lucy Lawless... is Joxer the Mighty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joxer)!
ah, good times...
Avatar reincarnate!
From Orphen, Hartia, aka The Black Tiger, aka Shrimpman.
Well, I have a tendency to change my avatar whenever I watch a new anime series. But currently its Shana from the series Shakugan no Shana. It'll probably change in a week.
CYMRO pulled some strings.
*shifty glances all around*
'Sup Soban?
Not much, I see you use the same avatar here that you do on my boards.
I'm back to the Adam West Batman, complete with Mod-Action phone!
DIAL "E" for ELDO!
@Soban: Yup. 'Cause it's cooool.
@Eldo: *dials M*
oops..
My current avatar is Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash.
"It's gone" refers to the Speed Force, the intangible element that the speedsters of DC have been tapping for most of the Wally West era of Flash.
more elven.
in the slight chance anybody can read elvish fonts, take your time figuring out the tiny little letters. with any luck, theyll be there for quite awhile.
New avatar. Yes, already.
This time, it's part of the cover to "The Trials of SHAZAM!" #1. It signifies Billy's transition from Captain Marvel to becoming the Wizard.

Hank Henshaw, FKA "The Cyborg Superman".

Yet ANOTHER new avatar.
Iron Man, in an alternate reality where he killed every other superhuman (last among them, Doom) to become a Hitler-like ruler of the world.
In protest to his portrayal in Civil War.
Wait... why does he look like lego now?
Aw, I liked yesterday's better. :/

Bumpage, sorta.
It's the Cosbinator. How can you not respect the guy who voiced almost everyone on Fat Albert?
My previous avatar was a rune based on a very styalized version of the characters ~#c7 (being just a nameless poster with only a sybol). Now it is an embelished image of a tilde (being the former first symbol of my name). It is also similar to a celtic sybol called a triskele i believe.
My picture is from one of WOTC's old PC Portraits. It's technically a vampire, but he looks just like Arik Raum from my CS (who is based on POTO). In my campaign, Arik Raum founded The Seraphine Harmonium, hence the name.

IRL my best friend and I founded a secret society called The Fraternal Order Of Primates (we're one swell FOOP). We're dedicated to taking over the world by not doing much of anything in particular. I am the Master of The House Of Monkies faction and I think he called Lord of the Lemurs for his title.
Anyways, I like primates and lemurs are cool.
Mine's now a Photoshopped version of me (as is my sig).
Mine is He-Man's sword. No deeper meaning.
Mine's now a Wheeled Triple Spiral. What's it mean? Archeologists aren't really sure...

Ahh, mine's a sprite (fairy? i don't know) from scary go round. He was, i understand, in the employ of Jack Frost.
I thought I recognized Alison's artwork, but I must confess that i am still going through the archives, so I cannot shed any light on who employed the sprite.
but mine is Natalie, who became the angel of death's assistant, and besides liking scary go round, I thought this fit me, as my one friend, who once considered writing a comic, had me cast as the angel of death.
For irony, though, as, while I sometimes have a morbid sense of humor, I would be completely incompetent at that job. during one memorable, low-level dungeon crawl, we were in a fight with some dire rats as we had decided to retreat after nearly being wiped out in another encounter, but the GM felt like hindering our retreat with vermin. anyway, my character and my comic-drawing-friend's character were the only ones left standing, but my freind's had the last dire rat eating his arm, because he had decided, "why blunt my weapon on rat flesh? I'll just punch it in the teeth." At that point, I decided that the rat was fuzzy and cute, so, rather than kill it, I cut off my friend's arm and left the rat to chew on it. as I explained, "why must there be death? I liked that compromising much better."
I changed mine again. It's a picture of me. Not many people know I'm actually in the mafia. ;)

One of the more memorably stupid banner ads to show up was some dating site (presumably mostly for Arabs) that said "Find your Arab princess."
It was something of a meme in the chat for a little while, and it's why Jasmine is my avatar.
The short answer is: It's a d20 with big pointy teeth... Just something I drew in Gimp.
Here's the long story:
I created a website some time back, which I'm still sorta waiting on developers for, but essentially, I wanted it to be a community of geeks...
The whole things started with my own small group of players. We used a CMS called E107 for a website (think WordPress or Joomla, if you don't know what a CMS is). Griznuq.com is where we kept our game related info in a forum... Game logs, in character discussions, campaign related info like house rules, etc... It's been invaluable.
So I got to thinking, I'm sure there are tons of folks who would love to have a system like that to keep track of their games, but don't have the resources or knowledge, so I could create a forum for them to do exactly that. So I started putting it all together, but needed a name.
I didn't want it to be specific to any one type of game and really, I'm not going to require that anyone actually PLAY anything... I really just kinda wanted to bring a bunch of like minded folk together, RPG players, or otherwise... So I shot a little broader than "RPG player" and went for "Geek".
Well, what screams geek louder than Monty Python? I named the site "Big Pointy Teeth". (dot net) My avatar sort of bridges the gap between the "Geek" term and RPG. (being a D20, and all...)

Mine is a picture of my friend the Computer. I love the Computer and I love living in Alpha Complex (http://io9.com/5973846/why-the-paranoia-rpgs-alpha-complex-is-the-greatest-dystopia-of-all-time)! It's just as friend Computer has always said, "Happiness is mandatory, are you happy?" And I am! Only a traitorous mutant commie scum wouldn't be happy under the care of great and generous Computer!

I am happy, Friend computer, because I have discovered the identity of a communist traitor who I'd like to recommend for immediate termination!
I just like the colors.
And cats.
