In light of this week's SciFi debut of the new Who, who here likes Dr. Who?
I used to watch it fanatically as a child, but having seen the original episodes since then, I tend to chuckle.
I haven't seen much about the new series yet, but I'm willing to give it a chance. Does anyone know if it still has the psychadelic spinning and the old theme music (both revamped of course) during the intro?
That'd be sweet!
-Peace-

Supposedly the classic theme is still there.
Reviews in England last year for the new show were pretty good, but many a diehard whooligan didn't like it, just as they hardly ever liked a new doctor.
It always takes a long time to bring die-hard fans around though. Star Trek: TNG is still hated by some die hard trekkies, and yet it has it's own loyal following. As long as Dr. Who still has the fro and scarf I'll be happy.

Only #4 had the scarf.
the new guy looks like a PEZ dispenser.
BLASPHEMY!
EDIT: Next thing you'll tell me there are no phone booths (please don't tell me no phone booths)
The police box(or telephone booth) is still there.
I was a little scared that you'd tell me otherwise, given that old fasioned police boxes are all but extinct these days. I gotta see it...I was like 5 years old when I fanatically watched Dr. Who. I even remember that it came on 7:00 PM every week night to this day. LOL!
Granted the distorted visions of childhood are often better than the jaded eyes of adulthood, so I doubt It'll really live up to my expectations. None-the-less, I'm there. I'm gonna have to vist the Sci-Fi Channel web site to find out more.
Hello, All. Campaign building and Doctor Who! I'm glad I've been invited over to these boards.
The new Doctor will see you in two hours! :doctor:
And welcome Epic Meepo to the CBG!!
That was entertaining. A bit campy, but what can one expect from the Brits? I'll have to watch a few more, before I can really get a feel for it.

Definitely entertaining. But maybe not right for the American masses, though I hope it sticks about.
I would really like SciFi to show the old episodes, but do they listen to me? explode:
I used to watch a bit of Doctor Who, but I got into the whole thing too late to catch up with all the various Doctors. That, and I didn't really grow up in much of a TV-watching household.
I did really like the scarf, however.
The scarf and afro were the defining characteristics of the doctor as far as my childhood memories go.
Yes, definately scarf and afro. In fact, every Doctor up until now has had some sort of big, poofy hair. I can't say that I'm on board with the short hair thing. It's not very much like the Doctor at all.

Actually Peter Davison, the 5th doctor, had flat stringy dirty blonde hair.
Numbers two(Patrick Troughton) and seven(Sylveser McCoy) where not of the
perm persuasion.
Each Doctor had his signature.
The first was his "grampa" image,
the second his clown pants and overcoat,
the third his tuxedo and broken tardis and scientific mumbojumbo,
the fourth his scarf and teeth and curls,
the fifth his celery and bad luck,
the sixth his cat pin and superior attitude,
the seventh his umbrella and rolling r's.

Bah, Peter Davison. He was just a fluke. If the Fifth Doctor's regeneration wasn't so traumatic that it required him to utilize the healing properties of the Zero Room, he surely would have had a fuller, wilder hairdo.

This has got to be the best debate on the whole site.
Fro or no fro? Less filling...Tastes Great! :buds:

And what aboot Sylvester McCoy? Fluke? I think not.
The Doctor is more than just the sum of his folicles. :afro:
You know they say "the hair makes the man"
That's why there are so many cures for baldness. Although the new doctor was pretty cool, despite his lack of the fro. I enjoyed his charming ineptitude, and his hot blonde sidekick. I need a new hot blonde sidekick...
Yes, Rose ranks right up there with the second Romana and Perri.
you remember the original far better than I Cymro. I am humbled...

I have seen every Who episode available. Unfortunately many of Hartnell's and Troughton's are lost. :crybaby:
Well the season finale rocked! :hooray:
Daleks and evertthing!!
Captain Jack is as cool as the Brigadier!

Nah. Captain Jack is cooler than the Brigadier. The Brigadier never packed a Compact Laser Delux.

True. And we have not seen the end of Jack. He gets his own series laterthis year/early next.
It will be called Torchwood, and is produced by Russell Davies.
Captain jack will be hired by the British gov't (our era) to control alien tech left on earth.
:alien2: :jedi: :lurk: :sniper:
Though I wish we would have gotten another season out of Eccleston as the Doctor. He was really good, and the chemistry between him, Rose, and Jack was phenomonal.
New (for USA consumption) season of the Doctor.
The Face of Bo!
Lots of Torchwood references!
Queen Victoria as a proto=lycanthrope!
Sarah Jane Smith and K-9!
"You are superior in only one respect... You are better at DYING!"
Just wait for it.
It's one of my all-time favorite sci-fi quotes from some of my all-time favorite sci-fi dialogue (though I can't quote any more of it without giving away a surprise ending).
Also, I particularly recommend the episode entitled "The Girl in the Fireplace." A real tear-jerker if ever there was one.
