The Battle of Brithen, Part IIA Jade Stage Game[ooc]
Dramatis Personae:Luminous Crayon - GM and Narrator
Poseidon - portraying Escrist, a liriss scout: fresh from border duty in the dangerous Isae jungles.
Natural 20 - portraying Sarenin, an om-beh-ral swordsman: formerly narei pirate, now ruthless Imperial soldier.
Ishmayl - portraying Kor Dalj, a simoc bruiser: wandering loner, serving the Empire, facing his inner demons.
EldritchEvil - portraying Morek Vesselm, an Indrist detective: cool, efficient, and effective Imperial problem-solver.

[ic=The Curtain Parts, and the Scene Unfolds...]Sunrise in the slums of Sen Gaal, capital of the Imperial province of Ghara.
Another guard patrol was murdered last night. Two bodies, still in their chainmail and Formerian military uniforms: one guardsman now a pincushion for crossbow bolts and the other, a goblin, with a wide, red gash across his throat. Some brave soul will doubtless be along shortly to relieve the dead of their armor, boots, and dental fillings.
This is life in Sen Gaal. Handfuls of Imperial troops struggle to enforce Formeria's peace in the conquered province, without the military strength to back up their orders. Organized rebels in hidden cells fight the military, trying to disrupt the carefully maintained order for the sake of pride. Ordinary folk live in resigned fear-- fear of a suspicious military that can't recognize its enemies, fear of violent rebels and their brutal tactics, fear of having to give up the bloodwashed homeland they love.
It is a time for the Empire's distinguished and talented agents to take action. Can this special task force bring peace to Ghara at last, or will they die in the attempt?[/ic]

...4a. Don't forget the level-dependent AC bonus provided by your class; see the appropriate table column.
...4b. We are using the "Armor as DR" variant. If you use armor, half the listed AC value (round down) is converted to DR, and the other half of the listed AC value (round up) is unaffected. Shields continue to work as they always have.
...4c. We are using a vitality/wounds system. Calculate your Vitality Points as you normally would calculate HP. In addition, you have Wound Points equal to your Constitution score. Wound points are the ones that determine whether or not you are dead.
5. We will worry about gear and equipment in a little bit. It's not important yet.
Now, write the character.
What is your character's name? What is he or she like, in terms of personality? How about a bit of background? How did he or she come to be an Imperial agent?
You don't have to write me a novel here. But this is the sort of development that will help flesh out a character in the true literary sense of the word, and will help connect you to the setting. As I said in the other thread, "if you come up with a 'character' that is merely a collection of stats designed for optimal skull-crushing carnage, you will probably not get very much out of the game." Much of this will develop naturally as the game progresses.
Feel free to PM me with any questions you have about this process. I'll be glad to bounce ideas back and forth with you.
Also, please do not post your character in this thread. Send it to me via PM instead.
[ooc]Gear, Equipment, and Resources
As an elite Imperial agent, you are provided with the finest tools available.
Armor - Among a soldier's most important concerns. Also tends to be cheaper than replacing dead operatives. At your option, you may select one of the following:
- Any Light or Medium Armor (Masterwork and Sturdy: +1 additional Armor bonus to AC)
The most typical protective gear for Imperial agents, custom-fitted and exceptional quality armor is crafted by Formeria's contractors in large quantities. Chain armor and steel breastplates are the most common choices, although Imperial scouts and spies often prefer leather armor for its lower weight and greater flexibility.
- Any Heavy Armor (Masterwork)
The Empire does not encourage the use of extended, heavy plate armor for most operations, but still makes the option available to its agents willing to sacrifice mobility for defensive power.
In addition to the above, you may also select a Masterwork Shield, if you wish.
All armor provided to Imperial agents is of extraordinary high quality, functional as well as beautiful. Metal armor has the Imperial Sigil picked out in gold wirework on its surface; leather armor has the emblem embossed upon it by artisan leatherworkers.
Weapons - The instruments by which Imperial will is often enforced. The Empire's elite agents choose their armaments from a seperate stock of gear, much finer than the equipment assigned to rank-and-file soldiers. In contrast to the embellished metalwork of the armor, most Imperial weapons are plain and businesslike in appearance, though more ornate pieces are occasionally awarded as medals to soldiers of exceptional distinction. At your option, you may select one of the following:
- Two Masterwork Weapons
The equipment option of choice for archers desiring melee backup, or for any soldier determined not to be caught without options.
- One Cruel, Masterwork Weapon (Cruel: +1 damage)
Some soldiers prefer to train almost exclusively with a single weapon. Accordingly, their gear selection often includes a single, reliable weapon of exceptional quality and deadliness.
- One Flashpowder Firearm
Formerian engineers wasted no time in examining Cardan firearms and learning to build their own. Very few Formerians choose to place their trust in the tempermental devices, but some are drawn to their raw destructive power. Most flashpowder-using soldiers buy more reliable weapons out of their general stipend, rather than attempting the long reloading process in the heat of battle.
Assorted Gear - The standard package of equipment assigned to all Imperial agents. You have all of the following at your disposal.
- Personal Identification Papers
These official documents proclaim your name, rank, and affiliation, including a carefully-drawn portrait for quick verification of your identity. Also included is a stamped letter proclaiming that you are carrying out the will of the the Empire.
- Rations
You are assigned a waterskin and one week's worth of hardtack and dried meat.
Raiment - Tools of destruction are not the only tools available to a soldier. At your disposal, you have all of the following:
- Dress Uniform
The fine, formal black and gold of an Imperial officer. Your uniform is of well-tailored black fabric, embellished by gold trim and fastenings. Your name, insignia, and Imperial Sigil are sewn on with gold thread, tastefully adorning the shoulders, breast, and throat.
- Combat Fatigues
Designed to be worn over armor, this distinctive brown and green mottled gear serves the ironic dual function of making it easier to hide, and letting anyone who does see you know you mean business.
- Assorted Civilian Garb
From formal attire to more unassuming street clothes, you have the capacity to blend in and keep a low profile in a variety of settings.
General Stipend
Included in your assigned gear is up to 500 gold pieces worth of items of your own choosing. Many operatives use this flexibility to requisition one or more backup weapons, alchemical items, or other auxillary equipment. Leftover money from the pool of 500 gold pieces can be retained by agents, who sometimes find it useful for bribes or supplies in the field.[/ooc]

Cidu's parents were Bluecoats, so he grew up in the Battlement, helping them fight off any monsters from the Fen that might try to cross through the mountains. When they went ranging in the Fen and never came back, Cidu left the Bluecoats and went to Melago to seek his fortune.
Cidu is generally optimistic and good-natured, but gets discouraged easily in the face of setbacks. He tries to think his options through carefully and avoid unnecessary risks.
Cidu stands a couple inches taller than most dwarves, and his body is muscular and lean. He dresses neatly in chain armor and a simple red tunic, with a large battle hammer hanging from his thick leather belt. His head and face must have been shaved clean a day or two ago, but there is already black stubble where the hair has begun to grow back in. He stands nonchalantly, and broadcasts a welcoming, friendly grin.

Would you prefer us to coordinate our character-making to have a more balanced team, or keep everything random and unknown?
Quote from: IshmaylWould you prefer us to coordinate our character-making to have a more balanced team, or keep everything random and unknown?
I'm in the camp that says PCs should be allowed to keep secrets from one another if they want to, so I'm not organizing that kind of coordination myself, and I'm also asking you not to post any details here.
If you all want to talk amongst yourselves about it, that's fine. Obviously, I couldn't stop you if I wanted to. I just don't want anyone to be pressed for details they don't want to reveal yet. If I start talking to a lot of people about characters and detecting a really serious imbalance, I'll bring it up in this thread, or ask one or two people whether they'd mind branching out their characters' capabilities a bit.
EDIT: One of the reserved posts will be for introductions, first-impression style. Character names, concise physical descriptions, and a sentence or two about really apparent demeanor or mannerisms. The kind of mental "description" you get of a person after you've met and talked with them for about three minutes. Works well both as an index of who's playing which characters, and as a reminder of their basic appearances and attitudes.
Meh, doesn't matter to me either way, I just didn't know if you had a preference or anything :)
I've been following this thread and its predecessor with great curiosity, even though I can't play. Two questions:
-Why are the players specifically forbidden to post their characters here or anywhere?
-Will there be any possibility of keeping up with the development of this campaign other than being present at the times it is played (which, for aforementioned reasons, is impossible)?

Quote from: Túrin-Why are the players specifically forbidden to post their characters here or anywhere?
forbid[/i] anyone from doing anything. But I'm making a strong suggestion about this one.
Quote-Will there be any possibility of keeping up with the development of this campaign other than being present at the times it is played (which, for aforementioned reasons, is impossible)?
can[/i] drop by during our scheduled time is welcome to come watch, also.
LC, one thing I've found that can be very useful for keeping up with game progress, is each week, have a player write a journal entry in his character's voice. It should rotate, or at least be random, just so that one person isn't always doing it - not that one person can't do it on his own if he wants, but it's usually more interesting to have several different voices telling the story.
Here's an update.
1.) If you don't have an IRC client that you know how to use, you need to get one. I've talked to a few of you already in the #lcsgame channel on the irc.magicstar.net server, where our game will be held. If you do not know how to log on to that server and channel, hurry up and find out, or you'll be unable to join us when we meet to play!
2.) I've updated the second post of this thread to include some equipment guidelines. I'm experimenting with this format, which is designed to better represent a system where a military organization is providing you equipment than the standard "here's a sum of money, go shopping" system. If you have questions or comments, you know how to contact me.
You should now have all the mechanics information you need to make your character. If you are clear about the concept you want to use for your character, you should be able to go ahead and put it all down on paper.
3.) Please, please talk to me about your character ideas, if you haven't already. Some of you have already, but for others, the suspense is killing me. I'm available if you want to ask questions or run any ideas by me. Again: I check about once or twice a day for PMs here, and I'm occasionally on AIM as well (Brent Not Broken).
I am really starting to get excited about this game!
Last update in this thread for today, I think.
There's now a blank character sheet for you to use, as well as an example character I made, using the Jade Stage mechanics and the blank character sheet. Hopefully they'll help you get your brain wrapped around the character creation process. You don't have to use the character sheet template if you don't want to, but you will probably find it helpful.
Posting it to the board here messed up the format of my lovely character sheet. I have a much prettier version as a Wordpad file, which I will be happy to email to you if you like.
Also, we have the first nearly-completed character for the game. Crit and I just worked out 90% of his character over AIM, and I'm updating the Dramatis Personae in the first post to reflect that information.
LC, I sent you a PM w/ info on my character, please let me know what you think.
So, I have had talks with three of you people today about character stuff, and I am super excited about my findings. There are some truly awesome characters that will be involved in this game. It's going to be great.
Updated the first post with tantalizing tidbits!
Okay, I have character sheets from two of you, a fairly detailed sketch from a third, and a vague idea from a fourth. If you are Ishmayl or Supadupaman, you need to send me some kind of character sheet. As always, I'll try to be available for discussion if you have questions.
Unfortunately, we will not be hearing from TheUrbanMonkey after all, because he won't be joining us for the game. Today I heard that he has spent the last several weeks without reliable internet access (and also recovering from surgery!) and will not be able to commit to any weekly timeslot at any point in the foreseeable future.
This means we potentially have one character spot left. Should we try and recruit another person? Just go with four? Go ahead and weigh in on this issue, people.
Five is fine with me, but I think four might be better. In a game with as much intrigue as I expect and as little combat as I assume we will have, more face time is of greater importance than greater numbers.
Just my thoughts. I'm not really of a very strong opion either way.
Four is fine for now, with tUM coming in later. His character got detoured on the way there
LC, I'm sorry, I've been so busy that I somehow missed your update a few days ago. I'll get you a character sheet either tonight or tomorrow night.
It's okay. If I had been using my brain, I would have sent you a PM reminder.
I sent you my character sheet yesterday, LC. I had a couple questions on it.
Oh, right. I looked at that late at night while I was all groggy. I'll get right to those.
In the meanwhile, we are just waiting on a sheet from Supadupaman. Anybody heard from him lately?
I saw that he was online earlier today, but I haven't seen him post anything in awhile...
Sorry i've been awol for so long. I do really want to be a part of this, but i'm having doubts about wheter i'll have the time (i just started a very intense university program).
When do you plan to start?
I can make up a char and play for a while at least, but i will have to be gauging it against my course load and as such i may have to drop out of the game after a bit (hopefully not though).

We need a character sheet from you. Once that's squared away, we'll fall into our prearranged Monday night timeslot.
I hope you don't end up having to quit on us. If you do, it's okay (we'll arrange for your character to go out in a blaze of suitable glory), but I'd rather have you as part of the game.
Please contact me ASAP about character creation. You ought to be able to handle it with the information in this thread, but if you have any questions about either nuts-and-bolts game mechanics or backstory and other setting-related issues, I'm happy to answer them. Also, if you decide you can't play after all, let me know ASAP, so that we can start recruiting one or two more players-- a three person game is a little thin for my tastes.
So, i really wuld like to do this game (i love the setting), and i should hopefully give you a character sheet in a day or 2 (i have a lot of reading and work to do for my lectures and that takes priority). One problem i was thinking about is that i can't actually do that period of monday nights. i'm busy from 8 to 9.
If there's another time that can fit with everyone else, i should be able to play (maybe even shift it a bit later?), but if there isn't then i will bow out of this game, at least for now (maybe join later if the game keeps going for a while).
sorry for the troublemaking guys.
I can't really shift the timeslot later in the evening.
I could switch to the same time of the evening on Thursdays, but at this point in time, that is about the limit of my scheduling flexibility.
Ishy, Crit, Poseidon: What say you about Thursdays?
Also, if anybody else has an issue with the Monday spot, now would be a good time to bring that up. It looks like we will have to renegotiate either the timeslot or the composition of the group.
I usually get home from work at about 6:00 EST, so any day of the week is good for me if it stays 7:00 or later.
Thursdays are unfortunately no good for me; Tuesdays are about the only other day during the week (other than Monday) that would be good for me.
Mondays are better for me, although if we're moving the date around, I can manage any weekday night fairly easily.
That's alright. I will respectfully bow out and maybe join at a later time.
This may be for the best anyways, since i have a very heavy course load this term.
As an afterthought, would you guys be willing to play late-ish in the evening? like starting at 9 on mondays and then play until about 12? If not, that's totally okay.
I wish I could, supadupaman, but I have to get up at 5:30 AM EST every morning, so those kind of hours just aren't really available to me :(
Okay, here's the thing. I can't change the time. We'd have at least one person with conflicts if we did, and also conflicts if we don't. So I've got to stick with the time we set originally. I'm sorry that this causes you conflict, Supadupaman. I wish you could join us. If your schedule changes and the conflict is removed, let me know, and we'll see if we can't work you back in.
In the meantime, we have only three players right now. That's not really enough. I'd like to get back up to five, but (especially considering that once in a while, somebody is going to miss a session) three is simply too few. We are going to have to recruit again.
So, if you know anyone who might find this game right up their alley, make them aware of this thread, and the fact that we need a couple more people.

:P
I think I could actually commit to this game now that my schedule is starting to take shape. It'd be a bit of a shot in the dark for making my character at this point, and I suck at point buy...
But color me interested. Since you're a crayon, that shouldn't be hard.
Well, brainstorm a few ideas and talk to me about them. I have three characters submitted thus far, and none of them were written without a few back-and-forth PMs. I am always ready to answer questions and help with brainstorming.
Anyway, welcome aboard.
Player Search Process Update!
Nothing really has changed!
Ideally, I would like to have five players in the group. Five is my target number of players. I would love to have five of you. I will go with four; heck, I'll even go with six. But five'd be peachy keen.
Right now we have three confirmed, and ElDo as a potential fourth, pending schedule stuff. All the players I have so far are really great and awesome, but three is simply not enough people.
What I am trying to say is that there is still room in this group, and that I am waiting on additional players before we start.
Good? Good. Tell your friends.
The torment continues...
:'( Túrin
Bumpage: Because I really want to play in this game.
Okay, here's the deal.
I just got word from ElDo that he can't play in this game after all, which, while completely understandable, is news that rather bums me out. Also, to my knowledge, there isn't anyone else in the CBG community who has the interest and the availability to join us. Certainly no one has PMed me about it.
Clearly, waiting around for players to spontaneously appear is getting us nowhere. It's time to take the search elsewhere.
I've asked around in my standard IRC group, with no success so far. (Although I did get one "maybe in a couple of months" response, which I really hope works out.)
Anyway, I'm posting a "Players Wanted" notice on another online community in which my roots are deep: Forumopolis. (http://www.forumopolis.com) I post there under the handle Brent Not Broken. That place is very active, so we will get our two extra players from there (and hopefully, a few more regulars over here, in the process.)
Anyway, just wanted to let you know where we are in the process.
YAY! Reel 'em in, LC!
For your viewing pleasure, a link to the Forumopolis thread (http://www.forumopolis.com/showthread.php?p=969810#post969810) related to this game.
Update: One minute after I post that thread, there is already a declaration of interest. I told you that place is fast.
Update on the player search.
Forumopolis (http://www.forumopolis.com) surprised me by being completely unhelpful. I'll keep trying, but it looks like I'm striking out there.
However! I have word from an interested individual (http://www.thecbg.org/user.php?id.169) that his Monday evening schedule is clearing up in about two weeks, and he intends to join our game, bringing up the number of players to four. Four is an acceptable minimum, and I am quite frankly weary of the search for players. When all four players are ready, we will start.
Sounds excellent; I can't wait!
I feel like I have a huge amount of good news today!
We are at five players! The full list has been updated, but EldritchEvil and Aries Walker are joining the game.
We will start our Monday night schedule as soon as
1. I get character sheets from EldritchEvil and Aries Walker,
2. Crit returns from his weird, wild, wacky hospital stay, and
3. EldritchEvil finishes up some real-life preparation and frees up his Monday night time slot.
I expect all of this to take no more than a week or two. So we should be starting very soon!
I am super excited, and you should be, too.
Cool deal! Who's Aries Walker?
Aries Walker is a gamer from Forumopolis, who has contacted me via private message on that forum. I advised him to sign up here ASAP. :yumm:
EldritchEvil is likewise a gamer from Forumopolis, and one that I have had the pleasure of playing with before. He's played in an IRC Jade Stage game I ran before, and DM'ed two IRC games I've played in, one of those being a currently-running game set in a homebrew setting he keeps promising he's going to post here soon.
Only one word comes to mind: Huuzzaah!!
Minor Setback, but Not Crippling:
Aries Walker has withdrawn his interest in this game. We talked about it some, and it's one of those issues that I'm sure we're all familiar with: committing to more than you can actually handle. He wanted me to tell you guys he hates not being able to make it, but that it's probably better he withdraw now than 3 or 4 sessions in.
However, we still have four players, which is enough!
Things I need:
- Character from EldritchEvil
- Confirmation from Crit that he's good to go after his hospital adventures
- A little time for planning (which I'll probably get done tomorrow afternoon at work)
With all those components in hand, we'll be ready to get going (at long last!)
Quote from: Luminous Crayon- Confirmation from Crit that he's good to go after his hospital adventures
Given, and with enthusiasm.

Glad to hear it. I figured that'd be the case, but with health stuff, I try not to make assumptions.

excellent[/i] players we have now, but there is room for a fifth, if someone's interested.
When can we start?
If the entire group can be in attendance, we will start one week from today, Monday November 13th.
If not, we will start on the first subsequent Monday when everyone can be present. I'd like to ensure a full crowd for the first game, at least.
Isn't EldritchEvil from the Wizards boards too?

LC:I'm really going to do my best to make it easy to follow along. I don't plan on posting the actual chatlogs of the game (because the chatlogs are often very long and tedious!), but I will either post stuff that happens in-game here in the form of a narrative, or get one of the players to do it. Maybe we'll alternate or something.[/quote]
I'm game for next Monday.... I will probably need a reminder so that I don't do something stupid like promise my buddies I'll go out drinking with them or something....
I don't think I've ever posted on WotC's boards. Next Monday should be fine for me.
Next monday looks good for me, but I'll check on that as well.
Uh-oh, I have basketball practice monday from 6:30-8:00 (EST).
Can I come in an hour late, is this worth rescheduling, or should I cut practice?

Hmmm.... is it getting to a point where we should pick a different date? The more I look at it, the more it seems that Monday is the issue.... I wouldn't like it; I chose Monday for a reason, but if we had to pick a different date to have a chance to play in this amazing setting, I'd be willing...

It doesn't matter much to me, I leave work around the same time every day(except when something is getting close to being late, then I never get homme).
I'm not sure whether it'll be a regular issue, but so far, all practices have been 5-7 (PM, EST). In any case, if we switch days, Tuesday looks best for me. I'll skip practices if I have too, the Jade Stage isn't something to miss.
No Tuesdays please.
Update on my situation: practice is from 6:00-8:30 every day next week. I think it might be better to just wait another week, if possible. Especially seeing as we've waited this long anyway, one more proably won't matter. if this develops into a pattern though, I'll just start skipping practices.
EDIT: Just checked, looks like (next) Thursday is 5:00-6:30, how does that look for people?
To do a Thursday night game from 7 to 10, you mean? That could work, pending confirmation from the group.
Confirmation!
I can't make Thursdays consistently, but I can make it this week. Monday is a good day for me :|
EDIT: I could do Saturdays, Fridays and Mondays with this timeslot.
Where is everybody? It's 7 EST, and I'm in the room.
I'm gonna sign out and come back though, I have to re-install the program.
still lcgame on Magicstar right?

Errr... I was under the impression we were starting the Thurday's next Thursday... I apologize profusely if I was wrong :(
Maybe that was the impression that was given, oh well...
Nobody was there besides Poseidon and I, so it's all good I suppose. More clarity in scheduling for the future is obviously needed.
QuoteMore clarity in scheduling for the future is obviously needed.
Monday, Novembruary 27th[/b], and maintain our Monday schedule from there. Drop the Thursday thing entirely, because it seems only to be causing doubt and consternation.
What say you?
it's all good
I forgive and forget, as it really was nobody's fault.
I'll check ahead about the 27th, but I can't make promises. I'll confirm as soon as possible, though.
Also, when is Novembruary?
Between Octobril and Decembrugust.
I will be there.
OKie Dokie, coolio schmoe... let's make sure we get plenty of reminders coming up to the date of :)
Seriously, when is novembruary? Do you mean november?
Anyway, I can't be sure, but I'll make my best effort to be here. I'll confirm or not, give a decision of soem sort, by the friday prior.
QuoteSeriously, when is novembruary? Do you mean november?
Yes.
I'm making a reminder here! Everyone involved in this, don't forget tomorrow night!
I'll be there, come 9 hells or an infinite abyss ;)
I will be there in full force! Or something.
I am looking forward to getting this thing going.
I'll be there, 7 PM EST.
Unfortunately, my IRC client is shareware, and seeing as I haven't paid for it, it'll shut down every 30 minutes. I can start it back up in a few seconds, but I just thought I'd warn everyone ahead of time.
:censored:
You guys are going to hate me. My grandfather is moving and he wants everyone to come over tonight and get what they want from his house before he trashes or takes it with him. I don't know what time I will be home. :(
:(
Critical, are you on a mac or using mIRC?
You guys should consider getting something like Pirch, OpenIRC, or Virc, all of which are completely free, and don't have to be registered to use.
I'm there, by the way... feel free to come join me and chat 'er up!
You don't have to register mIRC either, there's a trick around the reminder.
Someone needs to teach that trick to Crit then ;)
Official notice: Due to absences and assorted health issues, game has been postponed till next week. Be there, or you will be julienned, sauteéd and served to cannibals. :yumm:
I'm here now. :) Sorry about that. It came up suddenly.
Everyone all good for tomorrow I hope?
So far, so good. I hope to see everyone there.
I'm there.
Tomorrow??? Please someone say it isn't tomorrow. :censored: I can't... J/K I'll be there :D
heh... bastard!
I'll have to play up in my cold-ass studio room cuz a cat chewed through my laptop cable yet again...

Agreed.. but the fiance brought cats...
Quote from: IshmaylI'll have to play up in my cold-ass studio room cuz a cat chewed through my laptop cable yet again...
Yes, but a dog would've brought the whole laptop crashing to the floor ;)
Luminous' computer gave up the ghost yesterday afternoon, I don't know if he's fixed it or found a replacement yet.
Oh noes, that ain't good...
This game is cursed!!!
He would post if he was going to be unable to make it.
EDIT: Probably.
NO!!!
Gentlemen, I fixed it. The game is totally not cancelled.
Why am I a turtle?
The only logical answer I can give to such a question is:
Why would you not be a turtle?
Everyone cool with tomorrow's game?
Yeah, I am.
As of this point in time I see no reason I will not be there. Now to memorize who everyone is so I won't be confused again.
Or better yet, plan on *not* knowing who everyone is, to help with role-playing :)
I may be a little late (or if I am there then disappear). I tried to time dinner so that I would be finished before the game begins, but it might not work out that way.
At work I have something that is do out on Thursday (and it must go Thursday or I may be replacing my kneecaps (if I'm lucky)). The closer due dates like this come the later I work. So I am just giving fair warning now If I am not there tomorrow, I'm at work. I will try to make it, but work must come before a game. *listens to the gasps* Yeah I know, I lknow :P.
Bad news.
Today's game (Monday December 18th) is cancelled, because the GM feels like death warmed over.
It's Christmas! Is it safe to assume the game is called?
I won't be able to make it on Christmas; we'll be out of town until Tuesday.
Are we playing tomorrow?
Pending an announcement from LC, I'm good to play.
We won't be playing tomorrow, because tomorrow is Sunday and our game takes place on Mondays. I do plan to run the game on Monday as normal, though.
:) Yippee!
Okay, Monday is a little shaky. I'm not calling the game, but I may have to. Here's the deal:
My fianceé's parents were supposed to come over for dinner last night. Much like they've been supposed to come over for dinner several times in the last five months, only to cancel mere hours before they were supposed to arrive, claiming bad health on the part of my mother-in-law.
I have just been informed that they've rescheduled for Monday!
I would not be the least bit surprised if they cancel-- again. Just like every other time. In fact, it's what I expect to happen! However, I won't know until Monday.
So, watch this space. :(

Amazingly, they seem to be actually showing up. So, no game tonight. Sorry, all.
It's alright, but if it happens again, our hawks with eyez will find out where you live. :demon:

I hope so. And anyways, I think Ishmayl has my address if he needs it.
But I'm going to be spending my evening cooking a metric ton of stir-fry for myself, my fianceé, and three aliens: one who never talks, one who never remembers
anything (example: my name!), and one who uses passive-aggressive behavior, guilt, and unabashed manipulation to cloak her disapproval of everything my fianceé and I do.
I would welcome the sort of interruption that
hawks with eyez* might provide.
*totally a great name for a band
Well fine, I didn't want to play in your stupid game tonight anyway!*
*this is a total lie. :(
ARG ARG ARGH. I'm afraid I have another nice little piece of bad news.
The last of my classes has been scheduled for the upcoming semester. I've known that it was going to be 5PM-8PM on some day during the week, but not which day. Of course, it turns out to have been scheduled for Mondays, conflicting with our scheduled game time.
So, as much as I hate to say it, we're going to have to reschedule our game. :(
Most obvious, we could move the timeslot back on the same night, say, to an 8:30 start time, ending at 11 or 11:30. This is not really ideal, because I know some of you have very early committments the next day.
Alternately, we can move to the same 7-10 timeslot on a different day of the week. Please say Wednesday works, because I think it's the only day of the week I can do this.
I'm sorry for the short notice, but there's nothing I can do about my class scheduling. I'd like to continue the game without any more of a hiccough than necessary, so please let me know what works for you, and we'll get this sorted out as soon as possible.
8:30 - 11:30 works for me.
7:00 - 10:00 Any day of the week also works
What can I say, I'm easy.
8:30 - 11:30 is not really good for me :( I work 7 - 4:30, and that's past my bedtime... 7 - 10 works on any night of the week for me except Thursday.
As Ish said, 11-30 sucks for me, as does 11 honestly...
I'd prefer not to do wednesdays, but if that's the only day you have available I can make it work.
Well, technically, Thurdays *are* available for me, but I'll be watching Smallville, so my 100% dedication won't be available from 8-9
It's a moot point on Thursdays, anyway. I work until 10 PM that night.
... But jeez, man. We've had VCR technology for 20 years now. :p
vee-see-arr? What is that, some sort of Voodoo Techno Babble?
(actually, we don't own a VCR... :()
Later on Monday works for me, as does the same timeslot on Wednesday.
Okay, 7-10 Wednesdays seems to work for everyone here (although I'm sorry it's not your ideal time, Crit.)
If that's the way it falls out, let's plan for this Wednesday. Thanks for being flexible, everyone.
So, it turns out Thursday nights will be fine for me if that's what's best for everyone. We decided to go ahead and buy one of those moving-picture-image-capturing-devices (MPICD? I don't know where VCR came from....) of the digital variety, and we will be recording Smallville (and many other shows) onto hard drive from now on. So just let me know, I'm free Wednesday or Thursday this week.
Quote from: IshmaylWe decided to go ahead and buy one of those moving-picture-image-capturing-devices (MPICD? I don't know where VCR came from....) of the digital variety,
WOW! Does it even adjust the color balance of turtle avatars?
VCR = Video Cassette Recorder.
But I can't run a game on Thursdays anyway, so that's sort of a moot point.
(I know what VCR stands for :) )
In that case, I think I have absolutely no idea what this conversation is about.
Guys, I'm so sorry to be "that guy" that does this, but I apparently double-booked this evening; the fiance and I are doing part 1 of our "wedding counseling" tonight (though what kind of counseling they can give us, I don't know... we've already been living together for five years, I imagine we've worked out most of the kinks in our relationship). Anyhoo, I'm really sorry about this... :(

Tivo it and come play. :P
Get your fianceé and your relationship counselor to roll characters, and do the counseling in-game. :P
Guys, I hate to be that last-minute guy, but a last-minute family issue has arisen that demands my attention. Nobody's dying or anything, but I need to take care of this tonight.
We'll pick up next week, hopefully with our full group again. As for this week, my sincere apologies.
We gaming tonight?
Yes.
YAY!!!
I have a counseling appointment tonight. I'll be back and able to irc approx. 8 PM EST, if that's fine...
Hmm. That's two schedule conflicts-- Ishy's PMed me about being absent (or at least severely delayed) as well.
Now that we're up and running, we can continue despite an absence. Gaming with three people works okay, but with only two... that's stretching it. I'll be in the chatroom at the usual time, and if we have a quorum, good. If not, we can just, I dunno, hang out.
Escrist eats the dashing kidney of Sarenin
Guys, sorry about that. As I emailed LC about, I've had a potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity come up within the past few days, and I had to take it tonight. If things work out the way I hope (and think) they will, then I will have a much more socially-friendly schedule in the near future.
With that being said, is anyone available next week either Tuesday or Thursday night (instead of Wednesday)? Wednesday happens to be my birthday, and my fiance had plans to take me out to dinner. I'm sorry I've been such a schedule bum lately, things have been a bit hectic with the wedding coming up, and with a lot of changes going on over here.
I. HATE. YOU.
jk. I'm availible either day.

I'm glad to hear the interview went well! Congratulations on that.
I'll be stuck at work on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the rest of the semester, so that won't work for next week (or any week.) But we'll see what solutions we can come up with, if any. If not, no big deal.
Man, I hate that. I really don't want to be the guy that causes everyone else not to play... Are Mondays still no good for you either? What about Sunday night (after about 5:00 or so)?
BTW LC, check your PMs
You're not making us not play.
LC said he could get away with three of us if need be. We didn't play last night because we were missing 2 of four. (Down with homework!)
Actually yours is the easiest to play without right now (I would prefer everyone be there, it's just more fun), since he isn't part of the army.
Tomorrow?
I'm good with that.
I'm already there! (in spirit)

yeah, yeah, we know your a loser... J/K :P
May you have a happy birthday tomorrow. Have fun and don't worry if you get back and your character is missing a kidney
*thinks, do Simocs have kidneys?..*
I could do Thursday if pressed, but not tonight.
Hello? Anyone? LC and I are lonely.
Are we playing tonight?
Nope. As decided last week, we are not playing this week because of player absences.
Oh yeah the Vermont thing, I forgot.
I'm back from Vermont now, and all set for Wednesday.
Speaking of Wednesday... Game in 30 mins!
Game tomorrow! Be there or be depressed.
I'll be there, or send word otherwise if an emergency comes up. I might have to be late due to HW, but I seriously hope that doesn't happen.
It's terrible, but I can't make it tomorrow. Work called me in to sub for the person who usually runs the lab on Wednesday nights, since two ensembles are having dress rehearsals during that time, and I'm the only lab employee who is not a member of either one.
You just don't love us anymore. *snif*
Game tomorrow unless LC blows us off again to do important real-life things like work, relationships, and sunning himself in the permanent half-light of the North Carolina tundra.
Was there a game tonoght? I just got home. I got stuck at work, try as I might I couldn't leave.
Did we have a game Wednesday? I totally forgot, so sorry.
You forgot and I got stuck at work, so I don't think there was a game yesterday. I signed on at about 8 and the room was empty.
Right. EE and I were there, and must have left right before 8, thinking you guys were no-shows.
Sorry about that, my mom had movies, and wanted to watch them on the computer... It was very distracting... I'll make it next time... Sorry to disappoint.
Okay, something has come up, as of this afternoon. I've been called in to run tech for a recording session Wednesday at six, and it'll last in the neighborhood of three hours. So unfortunately, the game is called off this week (Feb. 28.)
Are we playing tonight? 7:03 and I'm the only one here.
Jeez, I'm sorry. I was caught up doing work, and forgot it was Wednesday. I apologize for standing you up.
However, I think we ought to reevaluate our plan a bit, here.
This game has been in progress since November, and in that time, we've had only three game sessions. We have officially reached the point where even the DM just forgot about a game session (and I haven't been the only one to do so.)
In short, I fear we may have lost our momentum, and I'd love to hear what you think about the possibility.
I would suggest play by post. If you are uncomfortable with the format or lack of experience with PbP we can put the game on hold. If you want I could run Expedition to Castle Ravenloft (with you three as players) , until you are comfortable with the format.
PBP or PBEM would work fine with me. PBEM preferred.
PBEM is possible for me, I suppose. I use gmail and all, but I'm more familiar w/ PbP.
So, what we gon' do?
Not sure. But ironically enough, I've been called in to work tomorrow evening as well, so we have all the more time to decide. It's quite frustrating.
and den??????
I think we've lost out momentum, certainly. It's time to put this game on the shelf, maybe to take a fresh look at later.
I'd still like to run a Jade Stage game, but my schedule will no doubt continue to conspire against me, at least for the next several months. And this particular campaign has clearly blown up on the launch pad, sad as it makes me to admit it.
I expect it's better for all of us to take a break and perhaps reconvene later with a fresh interest, than to face probable burnout by struggling to resuscitate a dead game.
I'll deal with that. Sarenin will be re-used though... *Dashing*
