Here's a thread to post what RPGs you like besides D&D, and exactly why. Please try to be as specific as possible. (Inspired by Phoenix Knight going on about Riddle of Steel.)
I play Mutants & Masterminds, 2nd edition, primarily because it is a streamlined system that executes superheroic gaming very well.
I've played (tried to play) GURPS: Hellboy.
Also, d20 modern and apocalypse... and starwars.
Top Secret, back when it was new. Same for Star Frontiers.
Discworld MUD.
2nd Edition D&D. World of Darkness. My friend's dad's homebrew system. All three are totally awesome. I actually kind of prefer 2nd to 3rd edition because of the feel it gives me when I play. You can run just about any type of game well in either system, but 2e to me seems so much more... magical.
Iron Heroes (duh...). When
haven't I taken the opportunity to whore it out? Never.
QuoteHonestly, even I don't do that much whoring.
~Ocsar Wilde on the above
BESM (either Tri-Stat or d20). This is the only game I get to play in RL, so I better freakin' like it.
QuoteYAOI!
~Oscar Wilde on BESM

the[/i] anime RPG. Otherwise, there's no real point in getting it.
I've looked over, and own, Iron Heroes. I'd also like to try out Vampire and similar games.
EDIT: I also own the d20 Modern Core game,a nd am considering partaking in an online game using it's system quite soon.
I've only ever gotten to play D&D, but I'd like a chance to try Mutants & Masterminds because I just got it and the character creation system makes me itch with creativity. I also have the rules for HARP, Arcana Evolved, Action! System, Tri-Stat dX (BESM, but you can vary the die by genre), and one other reallllllllllllllllllllllly simple system which I absolutely love.
Iron Heroes was described to me as "testosterone-fueled action", which isn't what I'm looking for in an RPG. I've never even looked up World of Darkness, though so many people say they play it.
But it's freakin impossible to find a game online.
I've been looking to get IH and (now) BESM so I can kind of fuse them with my Starwarsy UA-heavy DnD. Could BESM do stuff as trippy as Neon Genesis Evangelion or FLCL... or is it pretty standard genre stereotypes?
Marvel Universe RPG- Marvel Comics' most recent attempt to provide something for the RPG community (assuming TCGs and CMGs dont count, that is). despite the fact that it is unbelievably inbalanced, i still think it was a great game. i own all three books.
by the way, if anybody has any questions about it, feel free to ask me....
I didn't really like 2E D&D. I liked Iron Heroes when I first bought it; I liked the flavor, but I soured on it, eventually, perhaps because my players did.
I've played a few WoD games. The game systems are usually pretty good, but I'm not a huge fan of the actual games.
Go The Riddle of Steel! I also like Shadowrun. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay has some strong qualities, but not as many as the other two.
The Phoenix has spoken.
Other than D&D, its pretty much d20 Modern and Future for me.
You know what game everyone should play?
Toon, that's what!
It is one of the greatest roleplaying games ever (especially since the rules are so lax that almost the whole game is based on roleplaying and imagination).
Also it's hilarious. My rabbit character once got hit by sheep shears, and dumped in a processor where he was turned into shape-shifting peanut butter. He then spent the rest of the game as a blob of anthropomorphic peanut butter. Ahh, good times.

where I get that game?
GURPS. Not just because it allows you to easily create almost any character concept conceivable, including some very hard to do with d20.
No, because it inspires you to create characters you never even knew you wanted to create until you read the rules.
theres one game i wanna check out....
"my life with master". essentially, its RPing out self-loathing evil minions that do as the Master pleases, in attempt to gain love.
or something like that, i think....
I have heard good things about "My life," actually, though that's not one I've had time to try.
Thank you Phoenix for rambling about TRoS! I had looked at it, loved it and then forgotten the name. >_<
I'm contemplating buying the tome, though I'd like to see what you think are downsides to the system.
Kobolds ate my baby. One of the best afternoons I have ever had.

It's an old-ish steve Jackson Game. It's likely hard to get currently, although maybe you can order it from them. Or maybe even download it from somewhere. My copies of the books are like 12 or 13 years old and are totally falling apart.
The only book you actually need is Toon (it's the red one). The others are okay but not needed. You could probaly get it online somewhere for like 15-20 bucks.
GURPS, Iron Heroes and Nobilis. The latter because no other game allows you to literally sieze the economy by the lovesack and crush the friggin' life out of it.
And if you've got the right players for it, freeform roleplaying is hella fun.
None. I can find players to play DnD with me, so I'm satisfied and need no other system.

I like D&D, all in all, but sometimes I want a game system that allows for more flexibility. Or rather, for flexibility that
doesn't involve lots and lots of cludgy new rules. Some character concepts can't be easily done with D&D.
i really liked the fuzion system since it was so maleable. i found it when i picked up a copy of the bubblegum crisis rpg. too bad that the company kinda stopped making stuff for it.
the other rpg system that i really REALLY liked (and maybe that's just because it was the only system that i ran a successful campaign in) was starwars. not the new wotc d20 version, but the old one created by westend games. it was awesome. i am a big big BIG fan of skill based systems over class and lever systems (another reason why i liked fusion) and the mecahics were nice and streamlined. stats and skills were rated in #d6's. when you attempted something, you rolled your dice, totalled them, and compared it to a target number. kinda like the newer d20 system, but better in my opinion.
i totally cried when i saw that wotc had turned starwars into a class and level system. how do you have a "smuggler", "ambassador", or "princess" class? it just makes no sense.
Oh yeah, and Amber (based on Nine Princes of Amber). A very simple rules system with a fun bidding system for attributes, plus it's extraordinarily flexible and could cater to many more settings than it is explicitly designed for.
A tried out a system called "Agone," and it had a lot of promise, but quite frankly, it was just too complicated. 3-to-4 different mathematical equations were required for every check you ever did, and they came up with new names for everything which was just a bit heacachesome.
Kinda like F.A.T.A.L...
My god, that game was a pain!
