I have a little first-hand knowledge how the larger threads are not visited by a lot of the CBG population, since who the hell wants to read 15 pages of threads just to figure out what is going on?
So this thread is a little invitation and primer who do not know...
The Steel Island game was always a 'drop in' and play thread, a way to dip one's toes into the GS system, to sample Celtricia, or to see how the IRC game works.
Most of the group's players have chosen to make their own characters. But we almost always have pregen characters that can be borrowed for a session or 2. No stress.
Currently, 4 newish followers have joined the explorers as they venture back into the Vexchian ruins, to explore the ancient Venolvian ruins, to grapple with Stronghoen's beastmen minions, to help the ancient omwo~ crones...and anyone who wants to drop in and borrow a Pregen is welcome.
Currently, Llum, TMG, SD, Limetom, and sometimes Nomadic are playing, but anyone who wants to roleplay a bit online is welcome to join in. Currently Thursdays at 8:30 eastern.
Welcome.
I have a question. How long do sessions usually go?
Quote from: Ninja D!I have a question. How long do sessions usually go?
1.5 -2 hours. Not Long. We try to make them short and intense, but the online attention span is shorter.
I may be interested in this, actually. That cuts into the beginning of my usual work time, when I work Thursdays, but I think we have recently been forced into an arrangement at my work that will have me not working Thursdays anymore...at least for a time. How would one go about learning the basics of the system used.
EDIT : Actually, I think I messed up on the time zones. I don't think that would ever cut into my usual work time.
Ninja, my friend, you are very welcome. I will try to post the new characters so you can get a look.
I will also look through the celtrician wiki to see what pages describe the game play. The wiki for celtricia is approaching 1000 pages...so there is a lot there.
If you're going through that much trouble, anyway, if you could point me and other potential players in the direction of pages relevant to the part of the setting the game takes place in, that would be very nice. Also, RUN ON SENTENCE OF DOOM!

Definitely also, if you are interested in rolling up your own character, check out Llum's post on character creation (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?72726.60), as well as the wiki's explanation of character creation (http://celtricia.pbworks.com/w/page/14955405/Character-Creation). They're good guides for getting a feel of things. Also ask questions of anyone playing, not just Vreeg; a lot of the others know their stuff.

The extreme bare-bones of the mechanics? Roll low on a d%. You can't get more basic Guildschool than that.
Thanks. Reading time.
I looked here (http://celtricia.pbworks.com/w/page/14956118/SkillDropDownMaster) and then my brain exploded. So I guess I'm dead now.

Just talk with vreeg or one of the regular players (llum is really awesome at this) and ask them to walk you through creating a character. It gets easier after your first one.

Odds are, you won't be using subskills, so I wouldn't worry about that.
The horror stories you might have heard about Guildschool's complexity are, to a degree, true. There are players, for example, that do use spreadsheets for their characters. That said, the complexity is a tad exaggerated. You won't run into math any more complex than multiplying decimals. While you might
want a calculator, I doubt you'd actually
need one. Even when you do use one, it won't be until after all of the gameplay, anyway.
I've got a couple of days off. Just as long as no one expects anything of me (crossing fingers here, we just finished moving, it should be time for rest) I should be able to read quite a bit. I usually pick up on systems pretty quickly and I have a special fondness for ones that are skill based.

Well, we'd love to have you.
I also need to make it clear again that anyone who wants to drop in and play one of the pregenerated characters that run with the group is welcome to. It's a fun way to just drop in an roleplay if someone wants to.
Posting from my phone now -- out doing grown up stuff, I am. i read some yesterday, though. I like Steel Isle, it sounds like a good place for the dungeon crawling sort of adventure. I'm sure I'll get to more in the next day or so.
I'm surprised that no one else is wanting to jump in.
Well, the power of the overgrown thread is well known.
Glad to have you dipping your feet.
We'll have the 4 newer followers of the group also available for 'drop ins', so that there will be 4 characters available for play for those who don't want to make one.

OK, this is a quick bump for any who want to dare stick their feert into the steel isle game. No stress, as always, no muss, no fuss. I just know that a huge thread can scare folk away and that the game stays open.
For anyone who wants to drop by and play, we do have one pregen who is available for drop-ins.
'¢Bonatos Regiano - FratreCanis battlemage of the Arcanic Swords and follower of Max.
(FratreCanisThe Dog Brothers are slightly shorter than humans, and thinner. They have human hands, but their legs are more canine, as are their facial features. FratreCanis have mediocre sight, but excellent taste, hearing, and olfactory senses. They are very loyal and organized, and tend towards study.
They originated on the Steel Isle, a creation of the Mad Artifer Korang.)
Bonatos is a member of the Arcanic Swords, the fighting branch of the Collegium Arcana. He is a caster who specializes in weapon buffs. He uses a sabre and prefers slightly lighter armor. He wears a suit of chain leather and uses a heater shield.
Victor is keeping the dog man alive so if anyone wants to join in, that would be awesome.
