Title: Extra Wings
Post by: limetom on October 17, 2006, 10:37:54 PM
Granted this started out as a joke...

Quote from: Seraphine_HarmoniumI have a fan!  ;)  I think having two pair increases fly speed by 20 ft
What you say makes perfect sense, therefore I stand by my statement, an extra pair increases speed by 20 ft.  :D
I'm almost sorry I brought this up.

[th]Pairs of Wings[/th][th]Speed[/th][th]Manuverability[/th]

1No changeNo change

2No change+1 category

320% reduction-1 category

420% reduction-1 category

520% reduction-1 category

620% reduction-1 category

720% reduction-1 category

N.B.: Each extra pair of wings' effects are cumulative.  Speed is reduced to a miniumum of zero; manuverability is reduced to a minimum of clumsy.  This only applies to flight as an extraordinary ability.

Thank you!  Put my thoughts to words, you did.  It always seemed to me that fantastic creatures with many pairs of wings (unless the wings were sequential rather than stacked) would make effective maneuvering (and indeed flight itself) virtually unachievable.

That's why my six pairs are ornamental.  What's a seraph gonna use twelve wings for, anyway?  Ballast?

i realize the discussion was brought upon with the thhought of angel wings, but since the discussion is more along the lines of game mechanics, my question is:

are we automatically assuming avian wings? if we allow stacked gossemar (sp?) wings, a la dragonflies, i stand by an increase in speed and aerial manueverability. as i see it, we have four different designs (thus far) to consider:

stacked gossemar
sequential gossemar
stacked avian
sequantial avian

i will agree, though, that multiple pairs of avian wings would be too bulky for proper flight....

And dragon- or fiend-like wings are a whole nother thing.

reptilian (dragon) or mammalian (bat) wings, as far as mechanics go, would fall under avian, as far as i can tell.

although, if theres a signifigant difference between these two (i would still definately count them together) and avian wings, we can include these as yet anothr option.
