The crowd is noticeable hushed. Tension ties their mouths shut. !maeba had broken the speed record several times over, and while not an extremely exciting fight, it did prove his ruthlessness as a fighter. Vorgresh was a promising rookie, with a lot of potential. The only thing was that he didn't have a ton of experience, and he was really fighting three opponents in this match. It promised to be a good match.

[ic= !maeba (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=4534) ] !maeba pulls out his bow and begins his pre-battle rituals. While chanting a series of prayers to the gaurdian gods, ending off with a scream to Mictlantecuhtli, he applies sacred oils to his bow, and dips some of his arrows in vials of liquid hanging off his belt. He then pulls out a pot of pale cream, he applies warpaint in the crude image of a skull to the heads of both his hounds, and finally his own face. Then, he takes hold of his hounds' collars and giving a loud shout proclaims "The jaws of the Gods will devour this infidel," and brings his arms together like the jaws of an alligator. As he does this his dogs stalk out to his left and right, each about 40 feet to the side. He then pulls a small gourd-like object and, hold his bow in his other hand, waits for the battle to begin. During his turn Vorgresh attempts to break free [dice]1d20+4[/dice]

[dice]1d20+4[/dice] if successful [spoiler] [dice]1d6+4[/dice] and initiates a grapple (scorpian's grasp). As an immediate action Vorgresh manifests grip of iron for 1pp (4pp left). [dice]1d20+22[/dice] If successful, !maeba takes an additional [dice]1d12+1d6+5[/dice] and you're pinned. Your dogs get a -4 to hit Vorgresh in close combat and Vorgresh's AC rises to 14 (denial of dexterity bonus)[/spoiler][/ooc]
Did all of you're rolls just change? I tought you got that 20 on you're to hit roll?
Maybe i read it wrong the first time.
[ooc] Okay, not sure what a lot of the stuff you did was.
So, break free easily.
You try to hit (-2 demoralized amd -2 tanglefoot. breaking free allows you to move but beleive the penaly stays until it dissolves or is srcaped off. Correct me if i'm wrong).
Is the rest of this right:
then i take 6 if you hit?
you start a grapple? i get [dice]1d20+2[/dice] (is the 1d20 plus 22 your check? oh my god)
where is all that damage coming from?
why does your ac rise and why do they get penalties?
what happens if my dogs attack? can they break the grapple?
what do i have to do to draw a weapon/attack you with one?
sorry for all the questrions, but grappling has always confused me.
[/ooc]
[ooc]
Alright...
- Yep, -2 from tanglefoot, -2 demoralized, +2 from Charging. The entry specifically states a free action to break free from a tanglefoot bag (DC 17), Manifesting Grip of Iron is an immediate action, and so I still have enough time for a full-round action, like charging. The penalty is still there, Charging +reach allows me to hit up to 40 feet away from my starting position.
- Yes I can start a grapple as a free action with an attack. Scorpian's Grasp from Sandstorm is a wonderful feat. It states, "If your attack with an unarmed strike, light, or one-handed melee weapon you can attempt to start a grapple as a free action; no touch attack is required," The rest is pretty irrelevant to this combat. It allows you to use light weapons in a grapple without the -4 penalty, and to take a -20 penalty on my grapple check to carry you around instead of actually grappling you. I can't forsee a situation in this fight that I'd need that
-On the damage
- 1d6+1=Armor Spikes
- +4 Strength mod on armor spikes
- 1d12 = Earth's embrace (CW,93) you get +4 to hit me when I use the extra damage. You get -4 for attacking into a grapple so it balances out... Your dogs can attack at a normal bonus, but if they miss they could hit you. (just like firing into cc)
This damage happens at the end of the round, not immediately. Your dogs could join the grapple and attempt to pull you free. I think their grapple check is +5 or +6 IIRC, or they could each add a +2 bonus to your grapple check through aid another...
-Yes, currently my grapple mod is +22. +8 for size, +4 strength, +2 BAB, +4 from Improved Grapple, +4 from grip of Iron. :demon:
- My ac rises from the fact that I am denied my dexterity bonus, which is currently -3. :) I also get a -2 for charging so My AC is actually 15 in all rounds following this one.
- You're currently pinned because you didn't win the grapple check. To draw a weapon you would have to have won a grapple check. A better use would be to escape the grapple and just draw the weapon outside the grapple.
No worries on the questions. Grappling's weird in d20 3.5 :) I spent an hour on the errata making sure I got it all right.
Now, unleash the dogs of war!
[/ooc]
[ooc] I'm not sure you lose your Dex penalty (only bonuses). If you lost the penalties it would read "You lose your Dex modifier to AC". For example Skills use Int Mod, Combat use Str and Dex mod, and grapple checks use your Str Mod. I may be wrong.[/ooc]
[spoiler=AC/Dex/Flat-Footed Info][ooc]
Quote from: Endless_Helix- My ac rises from the fact that I am denied my dexterity bonus, which is currently -3. :)
Denied the Dexterity
bonus, which you do not have. It doesn't say denied the Dexterity
modifier, so you keep your -3 Dex
penalty to AC. Just thought I'd clear that up.
Good fight so far though.[/ooc][/spoiler]
[ooc] Okay, on further reading, it seems that earth's embrace give a +4 to anyone outside of the grapple, but not to me. I don't see anything about this -4 for attacking in, and it's only randominzed for ranged attacks (again, if there is a spell of feat active that changews this, let me know).
So i beleive the dogs could both attack you with just a +4 mod.
I am writing my actions based on that, so if it's not what i just stated, i will possibly change them (although pretty much only if the attack is supposed to be randomized or if there are huge penalties)[/ooc]

Man i wish i could win 2 grapple checks right now. I wanna try and stab ya.[/ooc]
[ooc] well, i auto fail.
I need a 19-20 and you need like a 2 or better[/ooc]
[ooc]You actually need a 20 to win and a 19 to tie, if I get a 1. It's still possible. Also, you've just taken 21 damage total. Now just a question for the refs, would you rule that I'd get cover for dragging one of the dogs into the grapple? I'm not certain, but I think that a small creature and a medium creature does constitute partial cover (+4 to ac) for a large creature. For the time being I'm going to assume not.
[dice]1d20+22[/dice]
Nah. You're all mine still! I'll hug you and love you and pet you and call you george... until you bleed to death...

[ooc] Yeah... it's the bitches that get ya...[/ooc]
[ic=!maeba] Maeba pushes the enourmous warior off of himself as Vorgresh falls unconcious and begins to srink as his spell wears off. He turns and raises his hands to address the crowd.
"This man is a warrior strong, ruthless and true. He fought valiantly and i was nearly bested. But the gods have decreed that this is not yet my time, and acted thusly through their servants Tenochi And Teoti whom they blessed me with many years ago. Though it saddens me, i must abide by their decision. They looked down upon my mighty opponent Vorgresh as he fought, and have judged him truly worthy of the greatest honour. To join with my patron, the Lord of Bones, and have glory forever down in Mictlan. It is with a high heart that i send him on to you, my leige, my father, my strength, and hope that one day soon you will judge me worthy to join him and stand at your side, for evermore."
With these final words !maeba pulls an axe from his belt, and slams the blade down into the exposed neck of Vorgresh, severing it. Then he pulls a glowing vial and a black stick. Lighting the stick, his sticks it into the ground above Vorgresh's head where it begins to spew a pillar or smoke into the air while he drinks most of the vial and pours the remains onto him fallen foe. Then, with his dogs trailing at his heels, he walks from the arena. [/ic]
