So I'm in a promotional Facebook-based contest hosted by Unicorn City.
What is Unicorn City, you might ask? It's an indie film, made locally in Utah; a classic tale of trials of ambition and star-crossed love against the backdrop of the cliches of modern tabletop and LARPing. With humble production values and a hilarious script, it's a cult classic in the making that I had the prestige of extra-ing in.
The contest is for (drum roll and eye roll please...) 'Hottest Gamer' and offers generous rewards in the form of snazzy scooters and iPad 2s for the winners. I've advanced to the FINALS and am competing with 3 other noble fellows to win the male category.
I sure could use your support, in this, and for the graciously inspired among you I present the relevant links to vote for moi. I promise a chuckle at least to those who see me in my LARP costumes.

Liked and Liked! Hope you win!
I'm rolling my eyes all right. They really should be honest about these sort of "open voting" type contests, and not even pretend to base it on any sort of criteria whatsoever other than who can get the most friends/acquaintances/random internet people to click their link and vote for them... because that's all it ever really is. This isn't really a direct attack on you, so please don't take it as such; I'm sure the other finalists are doing the exact same thing in their respective circles. I just think the whole thing is pretty silly when you actually think about it.
Not that my opinion even matters. I don't have a Facebook account, so I can't vote, anyway.
I find it silly also, though I'll say that I don't think anyone's pretending it to be more than a promo cloaked in a popularity contest. Not my typical forte, either, to be sure.
However I find the not-so-subtle urgings of my girl-friend and base human both conspired to fill me with desire to obtain the loot.
I appreciate the votes and continue to wish for more.
PS Hey sparkletwist - why no Facebook, are your opposed to for one of many valid reasons?
I, like sparkle, hate facebook. It has nothing to do with facebook itself but I hate the pettiness of that kind of social networking. Social networking that serves a purpose is awesome (like this community or something like linkedin). But things like facebook and twitter are a magnet for the kind of information that frankly I couldn't care less about (you ate a burger for lunch... so what? Second cousin is getting married next week... how is that supposed to affect me). Some people use stuff like that for actually worthwhile things but a majority waste so much time using something that serves little purpose.
Anyhow, back on topic. Best of luck with your contest, your costume does look pretty sweet.
