Title: Hand Drawn Map Project: 25 structures of a typical medieval town
Post by: Gamer Printshop on April 12, 2011, 05:05:22 AM
So as another side project, I have begun creating the Blue Ox Inn - a tavern, inn with stables (still a work in progress). Once complete, I have another older hand-drawn tavern, and I will create two more smaller drinking establishments, then dozens of map objects of furniture, fireplace, ovens, and patrons. My goal is to create a printable PDF product with sliced map images at encounter scale (available in square or hex grid) for general use in any medieval setting RPG.

So this first set of tavern/inn maps will be compiled under Tavern/Inns of Chelbonay. Chelbonay being a ficticious town of mine from 2e days that I will update to serve as a typical town.

Then I will create four temple/shrines as another map set; barracks/jail/gatehouse, thieves guild area - nightclub/underground hideout/pawn shop/training area, craft houses - smithy/jeweler/timberwright/stone worker shops, magic shop/library/exotic animal trader/wizard's home and laboratory, other set - theater/wharf/warehouses/flophouse - all as their own map sets.

I will probably create a mayor's small keep as its own set. One more possibility is to create four different residences to represent the increasing in wealth typical adventure party going from one-room apartments to a small manse with attached barn, storage, labs, treasury, armory for the wealthy high level adventuring group.

Finally I will create the town map that contains all these structures. I'm thinking 25 interior structure plans in a town of 50ish buildings. So a very complete medieval town with a majority of the structures with detailed interior maps as an overall collection of tentatively 10 map sets each with multiple maps and appropriate map objects.

I also have plans of doing a digitally created (non-hand-drawn) map set collection of modern locations like: malls, office complexes, convenience store, urban shop, bank, alleys, etc. For use in modern RPGs, Supers games, and others that I don't play, but see a need fulfilled with quality professional maps.

Thoughts?
