Crap, crap, crap. The first time I thought about posting this was over two month ago. I decided it was too early and then I spaced it off until just now.
This year I will once again be attending CONvergence (http://www.convergence-con.org/). This is a convention that is called "the gathering of the tribes" by some. It isn't just a sci-fi con (though that seems to dominate), it isn't a comic book con, it isn't any anime con, it isn't really for any one thing; CONvergence is a place for all geeks to gather and be geeks (often while drinking heavily) for four days.
Posters / fliers / signs for all sorts of things are hung up on the walls all over the place. There are also tables designated for fliers. This would be a great chance to promote the CBG. If someone could make up a decent promo flier, I would make a bunch of copies and hang / place / distribute them like crazy at the con. Greyscale is preferred but if I see something really great in color, I'll spend the extra few bucks.
Alternatively, if you can come up with something good for a CBG advert to say, that could also be good. If no one makes a proper flier for me by the time I'm going to leave tomorrow morning, I will probably make up something simple with just a little blurb, the URL, and the logo. If you come up with something good, I'll put that on there.
I'm super excited.
I could whip you up something if I had more time but this is a bit too close for me. Feel free to make something simple yourself though (or if one of our other members wants to give it a try they can).
I can try to come up with something. I can't guarantee it would be epicness, as I'd only have maybe a couple hours, but I can see what I can do.
Edit-- never mind, too late for that. I'd help with ads and such if there was more time, but...
Well, here's what I've got. You can print it in grayscale if you prefer (though IMO it doesn't look as good.)
It's almost 5 over here on the West Coast, and I'll be busy until around ten. If you want anything changed I might be able to get to it then.
Have fun at CONvergence!

That looks spectacular.
That looks amazing. Looks like I'll be printing one at home and making some color copies.
It looks fancy but:
1. Turtle/Cabbage in-jokes... I suppose that the crowd at the Con are interested in quirks, but in-jokes are baffling and it implies that we discuss turtles and cabbage which is sort of a WTF for people reading the thing. It would certainly turn me off a lot.
Leave off at "we specialize in creating settings" for the second sentence, and omit turtles and cabbage from the last sentence.
2. I'd recommend a slightly easier to read font. I can only read the big font parts of it without straining.
Other than that- good work- It looks very nice.
It looks great! But I agree with pretty much LD said - It could use an easier to read font and might work better without the inside jokes.
That said, good luck NinjaD! May the Ishma be with you.
Removed the inside jokes (Except the Opal Council. Should that go too?) and changed the font (Except the Opal Council and the URL, neither of which I think is actually hard to read). Switched some stuff up a bit. Hope this is better (and you can print these up at this point).
At any rate, this might be useful in the future.

That looks pretty fantastic! It's a marked improvement over the first draft.
I just have one minor quibble: looks like "CBGWiki" has that red squiggly "you misspelled this word" underline.
That looks great! Excellent work, S_H!

%@#$&! I thought I'd gotten rid of them all. I guess with the rest of the red I just didn't see it.
I thought the first one was good even with the inside jokes. I think if that's the one he ended up taking it might generate some curiosity regarding our sense of humour and maybe add to the appeal of such a website.
Turtles all the way down.
Good work SH! :)
The opal council joke works, I think. It's not necessary to understand the flyer and it isn't as in your face as the others were.
:)
Really impressed with it.
I used the second one. There are now 17 hanging up all over ther con, some strategically placed (one by the gaming programming room, one no more than 10 feet from the Fantasy Flight Games booth, by hotel maps, ect...).
Disappoint.
I kind of liked the first one, myself. More people seemed in favor of the second, though, and the font was better. That's important considering how much people drink here. Maybe I could print a couple of those tomorrow, my hotel is right by Staples.
If the original script was desired, I guess I could do one up with the in-jokes done in the new font . . .
Stupid question, I know, but it must be asked.
Why not just put up some of both flyers?
Personally, I think a more-easily-read font is better, given that a lot of people there won't give too many looks at things they have to work at reading (I know I don't, especially at conventions).
The in-jokes? Meh. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It really depends on the person. Some are curious, like me, and some hate it, like LD. So, when dealing with flyers, it may be smart to have more than one kind of flyer, as not everyone happens to be intrigued by the same thing.
As a side note, while it may be a different crowd than CONvergence, I do go to Gencon Indy every year, so I could certainly pass around stuff there as well, if it was wished. figured I may as well mention it now while I was reminded.
>>Some are curious, like me, and some hate it, like LD
Sometimes I really wonder how we get along. :o
I agree with your (CC's) statement though about in-jokes sometimes working and sometimes not (thus why I stated what I did in the way that I did above).
There certainly would have been more, had I planned this out better. As it is, I spaced it off for too long so we had to move quickly.
Thanks again for posting those up. Maybe they'll bring some people who might enjoy this site.
I don't know if we got any new registrations but I'm sure we at least got a few views. Maybe we even picked up some lukers, it's hard to tell.
I'll plan better next time around.
