Title: Accis, World of Bronze and Heroes playest, bring on the beer and pretzels
Post by: LordVreeg on February 18, 2012, 05:06:10 PM
OK, I mentioned this to a few last night, but I've been asked to run a game in a neaby Con, but I really don't feel like unlimbering a Guildschool game for this.
This means I am going to Run an Accis game, and I plan to run the same adventure I''ve been working on for my locals.  It's Called the Haunting of the Purple Forest.

Accis is a very simple d20 variant, a little more complicated than 0D&D, but not by a lot.  Llum and Nom both made 2 characters a piece in a little over half an hour last night.  TMG, you can bring our friendly portly priest back if you want.  [note=priority] GS is my priority, with Igbar and Miston, but this is fun...like I said, get out the Beer and pretzels[/note]It is very much an adventuring, dungeoning-biased.
For the real game I am looking at 6-10 characters, not including men at arms. (Hirelings and Henchmen....and all older games used these heavily, doncha know).  The rules are here (http://accisworldofbronze.pbworks.com/w/page/31917034/Accis-Ruleset), for those who want to wallow in the Old School.

The Purple Forest is an exploratory theme, which is what most Old School games were built to do.

Now before I unlimber this at the table at home or at the Con, I'd like to playtest the Purple Forest.  With the greatest roleplaying group on the planet...the CBG.  This is going to be a short term thing, though I am not capping the sessions yet.

[ooc]OK, session one was hilarious.  A priest of the Furies of the Flame talking in the second person and 2 lowbrows, one of which kept screaming things like, " Don't HURT me...", while the fighter lowbrow made succesful intimidate rolls. [/ooc]

Blood, dirt, and terror everywhere.  They went to try to find out what was going on with the Weathermen camp, especially.

The group left the small logging village of Lochman, where Broo, the Sargeant of Creel the Weathered left them off with a bag of apples and 2 skins of weak beer.  the group went north up the dirt road, on the hot morning, and past a lage wagon with 2 guards in Studded leather, who they bandied words and threats with whilst their thief skulked behind a scrub tree.  The group then moved further north, and went into the dark, deep firest, where the undergrowth of huge thick spined vines girdles and chokes the ground and small, grasping trees and huge stately purple-green mammoth elms surround the players and fights the sunlight out.
Teh group continued north, stopping to find another wagon with logs and bodies, and 2 more guards with their throats torn out.  And loot it.  Then the moved sort of north and north west more, stopping 10 minutes later when the heard the sound of howling, and yelling...and metal..

[ooc]Session 2 was more deadly serious, with some of the session being made up of Horse quickly tossing together his fighting man.  True to the game design, 15 minutes later, we were on the move.[/ooc]

Barrelchest, Ussop, and Father Incinerator heard a noise behind them.  A warrior in a tunic, bearing a large shield and a spear came up behind them as they were paused behind a huge thorny thicket in the dark woods.  This was Adras, Spearman of Accis and a hireling of Broo the Mungerer, Sargeant of Creel.
[note=working the feel] Yes, Adras was working the OSR/grecian/mediterranean feel, going with the big round shield and the spear.[/note]  Barrelchest barely said hello, as the screams and howls from the other side of the thorned copse were getting louder.  Andras noted blood on the large, menacing Barrelchest.

Yet epics are made of such strange meetings, and thus, the hirelings of Broo ran around the other side of the spiny copse, to be met by a dangerous tableau.  A large, dirty clearing, maybe 40x40 was in front of them.  The forest roof was so dark as to blot out the sky.  Dark Purple leaves hung all above and around, as the group saw a pack of huge, grey-black wolves finishing off a small band.  4 robed scholars were down, with a fierce, red-haired woman in ring maille using a spear standing over another small male scholar, with full 9 wolves all ringing her, coming in for the kill.   Three wolves were down, so the resistance had not been completely futile.

Barrelchest, already bloody, roared and attacked, flanked by Adras and Father incinerator.  Ussop stayed in the back, shooting arrows.
Seven of the nine wolves attacked the mighty heroes, who fought bravely in a small, imporvised phalanx.  At first, it looked as if the numbers would tell, but the will of the Divine Family made their wishes known, as Barrelchest and Adras sprayed fur and wolf blood all about, and though the furies enacted some cost (all the warriors suffered gory bites), the arrows of Ussop and the steadfastness of the warriors put the few remaining wolves to fight after a minute of furious combat.

The group spoke to Aneliwan, the Spearmaiden of the Serpent, after Father incinerator used all of his minor curing prayers.  This red-haired speamaiden spoke of an expedition to find the lost tax reciepts of a caravan some 10 years earlier.  And one that had obviously gone all wrong.

Barrelchest, Ussop, Adras or Father Incinerator looking for a continuation of the OSR Love again soon?
