Title: April Contest
Post by: Nomadic on April 05, 2012, 04:35:07 PM
Turnout was a bit low for the previous contest but looking back on things I chalk this up to a bit of a lull in activity on the site combined with a difficult topic. We'll give this another try with an easier topic to write on :)

This month's contest, April Architecture (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209587), centers on creating an architectural wonder for another member's setting. So put on your world builder caps and get thinking on what sort of fascinating marvels of engineering you can come up with. If we get enough entries we'll have a vote off with a strong possibility of prizes for the winner(s). So get crackin!

Very interesting idea, and one that, I feel, requires less knowledge of target's setting than that of last month.

Awesome entry TMG, and an excellent pastiche of my writing style in my more florid moods.  Is the Skyeater intended as a downed spacecraft or is that just me reading into things?

Thanks Steerpike! And yes, you have seen right through me, the Skyeater is indeed a downed spacecraft. I'll PM you with some of my thoughts and you can do with them as you please.

I agree. I wanted to find the time for last month's but it never came to me. I hope to give this one a go. I would love to see regular contests make a regular return to the CBG...and, as stated in the Tavern, more members could help. On that subject, what sorts of promotion and advertisement are we comfortable with? Should that discussion get a thread of its own?

Expect an entry from me sometime this week! Looking forward to writing up some sweet architecture.

Ninja, I think another thread would be good to discuss that, and I agree with you that more members could help.

Cool design Humabout, pretty good way to reveal the new setting before I post it. Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing all of these entries. Looks like it could be a large turnout. :D

Thanks, Horse.  I just hope it fits the flavor you are aiming for; I'm kind of winging it based on what you've told me on IRC.

Okay so, "this week" was a little too soon for me... rest assured you'll get an entry from my end, no less! I'm gonna need to do some research for this one.

I would love to see something for Terra (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,24955.0.html).

Rest assured nothing could possible be out of place or contradict my desired feel for the setting.

Very cool man! I like even more so because I went to college in Grand Rapids and lived there for about 4-odd years!

Thanks.  I'm glad it meets with approval.

I've lived in or near GR most of my life, and am still usually no more than a half hour's drive away.

Sorry, yeah last month was part of my extended vacation away from this board:   It's not you; it's me.
Having looked at what last month's contest was, I regret missing it.

Glad to hear there is another Michigander on the boards!

Thank you Stryker25B, that was awesome.  It fits perfectly into the sort of setting that I want Terra to be.

(In the absence of an official discussion thread, I thought this would be best place to post my thoughts.)

All the entries have been interesting to read. The Halls of the Enshrouded for Arga struck a chord with me - it is evocative and mysterious, but with enough detail to make it work.

I joined a bit late to enter this contest, but now I am eager to take part in next month's contest.
