So instead of my usual "I'm back yet again" post, upon returning I decided I'd share a completely awesome RP tool I was shown: Roll20 (http://roll20.net/). It's a virtual tabletop that puts all other virtual tabletops I've seen or used to shame, and highly recommend checking it out.
Give it a look and share your thoughts!
That looks pretty darn cool. I might just have to try that out some time...
I couldn't help but think of one of your games on that, Steerpike. :P
This actually look spretty awesome. And welcome back, man!
Old news, but yeah, it looks cool. :D
We play steel isle online tonight, so I do not have time
Will try to run next week in it
Good you are back, my friend.
Been meaning to use it. Maybe I'll start next week with the groups.
At this point I am really much more interested in finding a live group near me than another place to play online.
Where are you? There are so many good resources for finding a group. I like EnWorld and Reddit's methods.
Looks amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I am in a rural desert area of Southern California, in the mountains just north of Palm Springs. About half way between there and Twentynine Palms.
Roll20 is pretty cool. I'm struggling with finding good tiles to make dungeons with though :(

Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem. I need to figure out how to upload pictures, which will make it easier to find.

Yeah, see, I've been to several places that have a group finding resource like EnWorld's Gamers seeking Gamers map. Most don't have anyone within 100 miles of me. Enworld has 2. I don't know. Maybe online games are the only ones I will be able to run anymore. At least until/unless I move elsewhere.
This does look pretty cool, at a glance. Can you upload tiles?
I played in a game using roll20 last night - SH, I can now tell you it's the closest I've ever come to the feel and experience of an actual tabletop game online. We had to switch to ooVoo for video chat (Not because the built in system didn't work, but because my crappy wifi kept crashing the video chat for me and at least if it was on ooVoo I could still use in game text chat). I'd seriously try it out if I were you. And have you tried just putting up ads in your local game store? Most ones around here (granted "around here" is a decently large city) let you put up a sign on a bulletin board saying you're looking to run games or play in one and your phone number, and I got some good responses the times I've done it or used them.
Ninja D!: Yes, you apparently can, but I have no idea how one would do so - still trying to figure that out. Need to remember to ask my GM from last night, since he did upload his own tiles.

Even though I managed to upgrade my internet plan, Verizon wireless internet (the don't run cables out to where I live) caps out at 10 gb per month, and video-chatting uses that up pretty quick. So I'm not sure that anything that requires video chat is a viable option for me. Though maybe if it were limited to an hour a week it might work.

There isn't a local game store. Not within 30 miles, anyway. Makes that a little difficult.

You can turn off the video chat and just do audio, or even turn off both and just do text - we turned off the video chat and used another video client because of crashing, but it wasn't needed. The voice part, though, did help with that "real tabletop" feel.

:( I can imagine it would.
I'm in the same boat of no local game store. We briefly had two and a half. They killed each other and we're left with just the half.

For a brief period there was one in town here too, but it was tiny and had a crap location, and I had no money. By the time I got a job and got enough money to go there and try to support them, they had shut down. :-(
I just learned this morning that we have a new one opening July 2nd. I'm excited.
Xathan: I'm going to play in one later this week. shall keep you posted?
SH: The path is clear, you must open a FLGS. :P
That does suck, maybe you'll be able to recruit some folks your know IRL or start a club/group of locales? If'fn not, then Rolld20 and the newly announced Paizo GameSpace are likely to be your saviors.
Does anyone here play via G+ Hangout?
We (Horse, Nomadic, Polycarp and me) tried a test combat with Horse GMing.
It went ok, until the point when for some reason we all disconnected and could no longer see what anyone else was doing.
I was also introduced to Roll20 recently. It's basically a primitive form of MapTool that runs in the browser. It's art-find tool is useful, though there's a good deal of sifting to be done and it is of variable quality. It'll be interesting to see RPTool's response to this program, as currently my more dedicated player likes it more than MapTool.
M.
I'm fiddling with it for my Red Hand of Doom game. I'm not going to run it online, but on the couch in front of the 60 inch. I'll have my laptop for the DM seat, and we'll pass around another laptop that will be connected to the TV.
