Title: Who's Online & Printing
Post by: LD on February 14, 2013, 07:07:06 PM
When looking at recent forum activity I noticed this in 'Who's Online':
Guest... "Printing the topic "The Cadaverous Earth"."

Does that literally mean printing? We can print topics?

Indeed you can, if you look in the top right corner of this thread next to mark unread and send this topic you will see a link that says "print" which takes you to a printer friendly version of the page.

Ah, thank you. that's an interesting feature.

As a side note, it's interesting to note that a guest (if not a bot) was printing the CE thread.

That is interesting!  Maybe someone's making a homemade campaign setting book of CE.

Man, a forum game of CE would be crazy, with each player adopting one of the Twilight Cities.

NO BAD STEERPIKE TOO MUCH TIME SPENT ON THESE THINGS ALREADY.

I print pages all the time, particularly Republic Reborn.

Of course, I'm not actually sending them to the printer - rather, when you go to "print," it shows everything on the same page, which allows you to search the thread for specific words very easily, without having to use the forum search function.

I suspect most of the people who are "printing" threads are doing the same thing.

Also, some of those are probably webcrawlers indexing for various search engines too. If that's how that works. Is that how that works?

Ha, there's precedent for that; remember the compilation PDF I sent you- I don't know if I sent you the one with the public domain pictures interspersed throughout yet though. :p.

That should actually make my playing Republic Reborn a lot easier now. As you are likely aware, I have had trouble finding 'old' things in the thread before. I had no idea I could see everything at one go. Thank you!

You're welcome!  It's been a lifesaver for me.  I should note, however, that not everything shows up in print mode - specifically, while the contents of spoiler blocks show up, the title of the spoiler block does not.  To take RR as an example, this can make it a little tricky to figure out whose inquests you are actually reading, as the character's name is contained only in the title of the spoiler block.

Still, it's an invaluable resource, and has saved me a lot of time and prevented quite a few continuity errors.

Polycarp- Thank you.

And-
Hm. Once again: "Guest       Printing the topic "The Cadaverous Earth"."

I think someone really is planning on running The Cadaverous Earth. :D

I would find it odd that a bot prints the same topic just a few days after it last visited the topic.
