What's new on the CBG lately?
Weave has started a new setting called Pinnacle (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209850.html), a steampunk setting exploring concepts like colonialism and over the top science. It's definitely worth a look!
In addition to that, continuing the trend of being inspired by the 19th (and early 20th) century, HippopotamusDundee has created a system and setting currently entitled "Lovecraft Holmes" (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209843.0.html). If anyone could get to the bottom of the mysteries of Lovecraft's mythos, Sherlock Holmes could.
Superbright has started a new setting called The Plateau (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209868.html), which she described as a "mix of wuxia, chanbara, Hong Kong blood opera, dime novels and Spaghetti Westerns as written by HP Lovecraft, with a healthy dose of splatterpunk body horror thrown in for good measure."
Ghostman has also started a thread called "Brainstorming" (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209845.html) containing miscellaneous content for the Savage Age (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,75347.0.html) (a somewhat under-appreciated setting around here, if you ask me). Right now it contains a pretty cool idea for sorceresses, and will no doubt include more in the future.
Do you like PbP (play by post) games? In addition to Polycarp's long-running Republic Reborn (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209500.html), there is Steerpike's Underdeep (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209813.html), and we also have Raelifin's City of the Chosen (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209841.msg221916.html#msg221916), set in a mysterious city full of people from various times and places, and Humabout's Mnemosyne (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209840.new.html#new), taking place on a dying alien planet with scarce resources.
How do you feel about d20 Modern (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209851.html)? (This topic came up once before, while discussing Arga, but now there's a new thread devoted solely to talking about d20 Modern)
Has all there is to say been said about alignment (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209848.html)? Maybe, maybe not.
Another interesting conversation that has started lately is about "authenticity" (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,209847.html) in settings and how important it is.
What is this trend of 19th / early 20th century stuff?
M.
Nothing really. I just noticed a couple of settings along that theme pop up near the same time.
Thank you again for running this monthly update series!
