Title: Halloween game?
Post by: sparkletwist on October 14, 2014, 02:57:49 PM
It is something of an annual tradition around here!
Any interest this year?

I'll volunteer to run it, which would probably be Fate or some such thing, although a kind of gritty and spooky dungeon crawly adventure using a system more suited to that could be good fun too.

I'm interested! But my schedule is crap, so I may not be able to participate.

I would potentially be up for this.  Having never played in the traditional Halloween game, is it actually on Halloween Day or is it more Halloween-ish?

Normally I'd volunteer, but this year I'm a bit slammed, and sadly probably couldn't even participate. But I encourage someone else to run something!

It's definitely Halloween-ish. Right now it's looking like I couldn't even make it on the day proper myself, so I'm certainly not going to try to hold anyone else to that.
For the moment I'd say I'm much more free on the 27th, 30th and/or the weekend after.

Steerpike and Xathan you are both welcome of course, if you can make it. :)

Possible things that could happen:
- Fate. Of course! Fate Accelerated with some appropriately reflavored approaches could work well too. It'd likely be a simple survival horror type thing where you have to get out of a bad situation.
- A dark dungeon crawl. First you get into a bad situation and then you get out. The level of system complexity here could be whatever people want, although probably not too in-depth since it's a one-shot.
- Something very simple with a mechanic akin to Dread, although based on tarot card draws or the like since we can't play Jenga on IRC.

I'm down to game.

I'd be down to play but I'm away halloween weekend itself. If it was a couple of days before I'd definitely be up for it though.

Let's try a Doodle (http://doodle.com/qtsxvktft84knpds)!

I've put in a couple slots in the afternoon as well as the evening-- I'm not 100% sure about those but I'm pretty sure I can manage them so if it works out more conveniently, that's a good thing. All times are EDT, except for November 2nd; those are EST because the time change happens then.

Posted my times. I actually finish work at 7 Eastern during the week, so I put I could play but I would be 15-20 minutes late.

I posted 1:00 and 9:00; early afternoon or late evening are best for me.

Hmm, the Doodle doesn't seem to be aligning very well.

The best days so far seem to be Monday the 27th or Thursday the 30th, but they aren't 100%.
Polycarp, how much later would it have to start for that to be workable for you?
And I guess the other question is, Kindling, you're in GMT aren't you-- so how late into the night do you want to stay up? :)

I'd much rather have 3 players than just 2 so I'd like to try to make something work out if possible.
Xathan? Steerpike? Any way to squeeze you guys in?

Honestly I'm a bit slammed at the moment between studies, marking, and my own game, but thanks for thinking of me!

The big thing for me is that it can't be between about 7 and 11 central.  Anything before that or after that period may be workable.

Signing up for what works for me. It's worth noting that I would have to leave by 4 cst, so if a time that doesn't work for me works for enough other people, please don't build it around me. :)

I'll stay up as late as it takes on either of those days.

Kindling might not have to stay up late at all!

The best time so far seems to be Thursday the 30th, from noon to 4pm Central time, or 1 to 5pm Eastern.
(Or Tuesday, but that's awfully short notice, so I prefer Thursday)
That's 5pm UK time, I believe. The time conversion is a little tricky because that's the week the UK is no longer on summer time but the US still is...   :dead:

Sorry, Llum. If you can make it, you're welcome to come, but I guess it's not going to work out. :(

Well yeah that's perfect for me.

Have we made a decision yet about system? I've never played FATE before - not that that should influence either way, I'm sure I'd have fun with it, just sayin'.

I posted a few options, but since nobody seemed to have a really strong opinion one way or the other I went with Fate Accelerated because it's pretty simple and easy to learn and should hopefully give us a good game. I also think it's intuitive enough that if you don't know the system well you can just describe what you want to do and you're not likely to trip over system weirdness.

The actual game thread is here (http://www.thecbg.org/index.php/topic,210149.msg229216.html#msg229216).

Also, you can download Fate Accelerated here (http://www.evilhat.com/home/wp-content/uploads/FAE.zip), but the game thread also contains a simple explanation of the rules, as well as a few things I'd like to change to better suit the mood we're trying to create.
