Title: COLA
Post by: Elven Doritos on November 29, 2006, 10:20:05 PM
Consider this a light-hearted parody of the BEER thread, also family-friendly for those underage members!

What's your favorite soft drink? I'm personally a fan of Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb, preferring the elegant simplicity of the blue-collar Pibb most of the time. I only drink the Doc when I'm feeling elitist.

Pepsi and Coke only get honorable mentions because of their near-omnipresence-- you can almost always count on a "Pepsi" or "Coke" jiving well at a restaurant. I mean, hell, half the time they don't even list half the soft drinks they serve, and it's a pain in the ass to hear them list them off...

"Traditional" creaming soda.  The yellow kind.  None of that red nonsense.

And Doctor Pepper.  Can be hard to find in Oz, though.

Vernor's with ice cream.

Coca Cola - the programmer's friend. But I can't stand Diet Coke, so for that go with Dr Pepper

sundrop.
stewart's cream soda & ginger beer.

ginger beer is awesome cuz it's punishing amounts of ginger. unfortunately, it's not that popular, and so can be difficult to find. (esp. when compared to say, coke.)

Pepsi = all time favorite. No questions asked.

I agree that Ginger Beer is pretty sweet. They sell this kind called Stewart's all over around here, and not only can you get it in the Ginger Beer flavor, but also in the Orange Popsicle flavor (yes, I'm talking about the vanilla ice cream packed inside an orange-tasting outside kind).

I am a decades long Mountain Dew fiend recently converted to the Way of the Ginger Ale due to a PAINFUL kidney stone.
Luckily, I love ginger ale, especially Canada Dry.  Never had a bad moment drinking Canada Dry Ginger Ale (a registered trademark ;) ).

Dr. Pepper.  All the way.  I drink Mr. Pibb (or Pibb Xtra) when Dr. Pepper isn't available.  I am elitist. ;)

Also, Cherry Coke, Wild Cherry Pepsi, and Sprite.  Gotta give some love to Sprite.  A simple drink, fizzy and delicious.  Far superior to 7Up, at least the old 7Up, not sure about the new stuff.

Root beer over cream soda, specifically IBC if I can get it, but Mug over A&W or Barq's from a machine or at a restaurant.

Orange dominates in the generic fruity sodas, grape leaves me depressed and still thirsty, and red soda is just too creepy.

Rootbeer
Dr. Pepper/ Mr. Pibb
Cherry Coke/ Cherry Pepsi (even if it is a little wild)

Regular Coke and Pepsi are just too bland for me.

I cannot drink diet. at all. Splenda does not fool me with its "I take mostly like sugar!" nonsense. I have to fight back gagging if i swallow diet by accident.

It's the classics for me: Coca-Cola all the way.  I can drink other sodas, but I prefer Coke.  Pepsi is too noisy.

Barqs rootbeer or Dad's when i can find it. Also Oringina (i became addicted to this stuff in france).

Not sure it this count's but President's Choice has a whole line of sparkling juice type things that do come in cans and are fizzy so i figured they count.
I love the Cranberry Raspberry, the grapefruit, the pommegranate and the green apple.
those last two have odd tastes, but are suprisingly good. also, the sparkling pommegranate mixes very, very well with vodka.

Hmm, probably Sierra Mist.  Dr. Pepper is good, but I don't really like caffine, so I shy from it more than I used to.

I'm a devoted drinker of Mountain Dew, with Sierra Mist or Sprite at restaraunts.  If reduced to fruity sodas, I'll drink Grape, and orange only if it's Slice brand.

I dislike both Coke and Pepsi, although I have been drinking a lot of Diet Coke recently as it is the only vegetarian drink in the vending machines at college (did you know Fanta, Lilt and Sprite are all made with fish-bits? I didn't!)

If I had to chose a Cola-type drink, it'd be Dr Pepper. Mainly cause it goes like a DREAM with vodka... whoops my alcoho... I mean, drink problem, me? No, sir! What a laughable claim! Ha. Ha ha.

PS. No I don't have a drink problem, really. I'm just a college student. Alcohol and further education go hand in hand :P

I almost always go with straight Coca Cola. A friend of mine often has Dr. Pepper but I don't like it too much. If there's no coke, I'll drink it as a cafeine shot, but otherwise I prefer Coke. Occasionally Fanta, too. Or other brands of coke, though they are not my preferred kind.

Wait, I'm forgetting the most important thing: water. I drink water almost all the time. Nature's greatest invention, as far as I'm concerned. Water rules. :)

I used to be a huge Mt. Dew Livewire fan, as well as Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pibb but when I was forced into the hospital for Caffeine related stuff, I had to quit all caffeinated soda. Now, A&W Rootbeer is my soda of choice. :)

[note]Caffeine, the chemical in soda that we all love so much, is spelled "caffeine" or even "caffein".

Just a note from your friendly neighborhood spelling nazi who has too much spare time.[/note]

And I have absolutely no idea why he decided to mention that.

Honest.

The best way to remember is that the root word is caffe. I'm not sure if it's actually the case, but it helps me remember.

The etymology of caffeine/caffein:

German kaffein or French caféine, from Italian caffè, from Turkish qahveh, from Arabic qahwa, from Semetic root qhw all meaning "coffee".

The two English spellings come from both German and French introducing the word into English; caffein from German and caffeine from French.

I was under the same impression. Though, IIRC, they make a stronger cup than we would find normal.
