Alright, i started this campaign back over the summer but due mostly to the hectic-ness of first term it died out. I was thinking of reviving it as it was back in november but still had exams and stuff. Also i think i would prefer to start totally afresh. It would be the same campaign that i planned, but since the pc's never got very far in, there should be very little repettition.
So for now, nothing defenite, but i would like to start up the Shadow's Rising campaign at some point in the hopefully not too far off future.
Who would be interested?
[ic]So far we have:
Kevkas Dragonsbane, a human undead-hunting cleric (played by Voran)
Ankh, an experimental warforged trained as a wizard (played by Golem)
Almax Duneith, a changeling rogue and master manipulator (played by Poseidon)
Dain Ironhammer, a dwarven fighter of some repute (played by Gwaihir)
and....
[/ic]
[ic=Info]
- It would take place in my Shadow's of the Last Alliance CS and would begin in the kingdom of Eltabar.
- Characters could be of pretty much any of the listed common races and classes (there are guidelines of common classes of each of the races, but these are, as said, just guidelines).
- Characters can come from pretty much any walk of life, but backgrounds should be run past me first.
- Level 2, 4d6 drop lowest, 900 gold.
- Any out of the ordinary classes or races, just aask me about them
[/ic]
I'm interested, but I don't know if I'll have the time. School is being a pain right now, but If I can put together a character, I'll join.
Well, if you can find time to fit it in, I'd be glad to have you along.
I was part of the original, so if you want to start it up again I will play.
sounds interesting...ill probably be able to fit some tim ein to play, if thats all right.
I was going to be part of the original... if you don't mind somebody DMing another campaign at the same time (not much extra work beyond the actual DMing, so don't worry) I'll join too.
Woo. Well 4 should be enough. glad to have you all aboard.
If anyone else is interested, i was aiming for 4-6 players, so i could deal with a couple more.

Well, thats my character for now, I will run my background story by Cpt. Obvious soon and hopefully have that up as well.
So, for all those who've replied, go ahead and start making characters. If you have any questions about how certain races/classes/cultures/dieties/whatever else work and it's not already explained on the thread, just post it here or pm me your queries. I hope to get lots of updates done over the next short while, and having specific things to explian might help motivatew and focus me.
If anyone else is interested, i'd be glad to have you along.
As for a timeline, i am thinking that a week or two from now will likely be a starting time.

Character Background and Description
Ankh was an experiment of a kind unseen before - a forgeborn melded into the Aeia Web. The experiment succeeded, and Ankh - a forgeborn with intense personality - was created. The savants let him on loan to the wizards' colleges (after much negotiation), but he was found to be near-incapable of focusing on any one subject. Eventually, the savants let him out on his own - to see what would occur next in his anomalous behaviour.
@Golem: Info about Warforged and some thoughts for you backstory.
Warforged in their first incarnation were simply an attempt to create cheap mass produceable golem to be used af shock troops. Created by the gnomes and men of the Brotherhood of Savants in the early years of King Dareon's rule they were commisioned in case of future infernal inccursion as soldiers less vulnerable to fear and temptation. The earlier ones were hard to create and much larger (Chargers), but the current Forgeborn and the Scouts have been much more successful and there are now full legions of them. They must all spend a certain amount of time working offf their debt to their creators in the armed forces of some other task, but there are now many living out among the people of Eltabar.
A thought for your character. There are already many warforged that can cast arcane spells, but a thought i had is that your guy could be one of a new prototype. He will be one of the first warforged to have been successfully been artificially connected to the Aeia web. Wether this is by using an artificial Aeia or by somehow binding an unnassigned Aeia to it or perhaps by augmenting/awakening the Aeia of it's materials to the state of that of a living being is undecided. This research is dome mostly by gnomes and small groups of humans who are considered radicals by their peers, but it is bringing hope to some that if this can work for Forgeborn, then perhaps the same principles can be applied to humans as well.
There are currenty 3 new elements in warforged developement being studied, aside form simply improving the existing template. There is the Aeia project (called the "Rebirth Project" or the "Project Pheonix"), as well as creating warforged Infitrators that will have artificial skin and can have false identities imprinted into them (even so far as them not being aware that they are constructs), and finally studies are being made into both warforged grafts and prosthetics for humans and even the possibilities of full half-machine cyborg types.
As for your class choice, wizards in Eltabar were trained at the Colleges of Magic and are either specialists or Warmages. There are generalist wizards, but they are rare (the most common group for generalist wizards is among the dwarves).
@Poseidon:
I don't really have much of anything much thought out for changelings. to be honest it took me a little while to even think of what book they were in. However, their nature is such that there can be some in the cracks of another society. Basically they would tend to take on many of the cultural elements of wherever they live. If you decide you want to use the racial rogue substitution levels, i have no problem with that. Go for it. If you want help working out a background or need info on some culture, just let me know.
Aaaaaaand just realised that up near the top when i was saying we had 4 proplr, it should have said 3. Not sure where i got the extra. Mybe i counted golem twice, or counted myself. Anyone else want to join? any two people evne? (do i dare hope?)
You said four as Poseidon, Me, Golem, and Natural 20 all responded. :-p
Heres my background story:
Kevkas was born to a noble family, but as they had figured out a rivalâ,¬,,¢s dark secret, he suddenly used that which he had kept secret, and took over the town with his undead minions; revealing himself as a powerful lich. Kevkas was the only one of his family to survive, and has since then harbored an extreme hatred for the undead, and wishes to amount enough power so that he can take back the city and avenge thei deaths.
Okay - how about he was let on loan to the colleges, for training? The Aeia idea sounds good.
Quote from: Voran IllezouYou said four as Poseidon, Me, Golem, and Natural 20 all responded. :-p
Oh yeah. duh. hey Crit! any more word of your availiability?
As for your background Voran, that seems totally fine. I would say that the twon should be something down to the south - either south of the desert or on the western edge of the desert near the shore. Actually i think the small patch or non desert south-west of the big volcano and by those three islands would be a good are for it. Three reasons for this.
- foreign noble type would be easier to deal with than a local.
- it's near the desert so your diety would make sense there.
- if a town was overrun by undead in eltabar, they would likely be dealt with.
in that are the primary populations are orcs, humans, minotaurs and some lizardmen typed guys (not actual lizardfolk, but rather bipedal desert reptiles). no central goverment, but just many small villages, some larger town ruled by local noble and many nomadic encampments, specifically of orcs and the lizard guys.
[blockquote=Golem]Okay - how about he was let on loan to the colleges, for training? The Aeia idea sounds good. [/blockquote]
Yeah that sounds just fine. It could be either that, he's on a military asignment, or he's rogue. If using the first, then my justification for them letting him go out on his own is that since and Aeia is like a personality/soul/sense of identity, they are figuring to help it develop fully they are letting it experience a life for itself. Previous ones were mostly constrained to labs and controlled settings and they seemed to stay at the standard level of warforged self-identity. By giving it the option of unfettered interaction, they hope the Aeia may fully grow.
I hope you don't mind, but I like my style of character sheet. I copied it from your old game, so it still has a few things from my Raptoran that I need to change.

Whoo, a healer for Ankh, and free scrolls to copy! :P
I'll be editing my background ASAP.
@golem: i think that the scrolls and the repairing were still left over from before when he was a raptoran sorc. I could be wrong, but i'd bet they are going to change.
Also, in the warforged entry in the race section of the thread it will talk about them having +2 on will saves against illusions and enchantments and -2 on charisma based skills, but you can ignore this as it won't aply to you. this is the base warforged without the experimental fake Aeia, where as you should just follow the normal warforged racial traits.
Yay. :D
I'm guessing you're right, actually. I presumed he had ranks in UMD.
Yeah those are just left overs from the Raptoran. He was a sorcerer and had a few repair scrolls because of Crit's warforged character.
Now Almax may have some skill points in craft skills as well as UMD. :)
I know this is pushing it, but is this allowed Alternate Rogue

uuuh, ..... well, i'm okay with almost all variants, even UA ones, but that one doesn't seem to fit. The generic classes later on give +2, +3 and +4 d6 sneak attack for feats which seems to imply they aren't equal. Also, compare to a lvl 2 fighter. you give up 2hp/level on average, some weapon and armour proficiencies and 1 BAB in exchange for quadruple skill points, a much better skill list (including UMD), evasion and trapfinding. It seems like it could form an interesting basis for the lightly armoured warrior (which is needed), but it would need tweaking first.
tell you what, take it for these 2 levels and i'll just play it by ear. If it seems too good, you'll keep what you have and then progress in eithr fighter or rogue and you can pick which one to count the 2 levels as so you can avoind extra mulitclassing penalties.
that sound good?
(bear in mind that you may not be allowed to go past level 2 in that variant)
I don't need it, I just saw it and thought it would be cool to finally get rid of the sneak attack feature. I agree it doesn't seem right.
That was an UA variant.
I also may be reading it wrong, it may mean that every time I would get sneak attack increase I would get a fighter bonus instead. I don't know, but like I said I don't need it. I was just trying to get rid of sneak attack and have a more diplomatic/spy like rogue than the stab you in the back rogue.
*nod*
I think you were reading it right, Poseidon. But I think that it would be more balanced, at least, if you let it have the feat progression, at, say, every fourth level (or whatever sneak attacks scale by).
However, we must remember that by something like 8th level, rogues are useless as written. Hide? Invisibility. Open lock? Knock. Disable traps? Oh please. I think blackguard gets sneak attack, too.
ANYWAY...
So, it seems that Crit will be too busy for the next while to join us. I would like to have at least 4 or 5 before we start. I prefer 5 but i'll begin with 4 if that's all we have. So hopefully we get someone to speak up soonish since i'm looking forwards to starting this.
If we go a little while more with nobody, then i'll just start with 3 and hopefully be able to add in another player or two somewhere down the line.
Hey, can I play? I was looking at the thread, and you guys have, what, a cleric, a rogue, and a wizard. Now what are you gonna do when you start fighting? You're gonna call on DaÃÂn Ironhammer, Dwarven Fighter Extraordinare, and he will beat the snot out of whoever we're fighting. That is, if you guys want me to play.
Sure man, be glad to have you along (it's so weird to have a wizard/cleric/fighter/rogue party. normally it's all weird stuff). Just send me a character sheet for the guy. I believe that all the racial traits for dwarves are more or less the same. they have a couple minor changes, but go ahead and use the standard dwarf. If you want any help or advice with fitting him in, just ask (there's a fair bit of stuff and ideas not yet posted on the thread for the CS).
Also, for both you and Posiedon, i'd like if you could make a background for your guys. I can help with this if you want, and give info on races, cultures, nations and whatnot.
Dwarves for the most part are a mixture of pompous and overbearing, and are frequently patronizing and even nuturingly protective towards other races. They are one of the oldest cultures and were civilized and advanced at a time when most others were still small primitive tribes. They are also the primary inventors of the art of wizardry and other ways of tapping into the magic of the world through ritual and study as opposed to natural talents. They are among the most formidable arcane spellcasters in the world. They have many fighters, knights, wizards and spellblades.
Changelings have no unified culture, but rather tend to take on the traits of whatever group they live with.
Go a bit of work to do first, but i'm thinking of maybe a rough start date set for around a week from now.

Alright, we got a melee dude, plus some Hemp rope now!!! I know what im doing at night.
I forgot, did i PM/post my background yet?
You've mentioned some of the background to me, but just in general ideas.
also, wrong kind of hemp dude. there's more than one kind.
although, if it is the right kind the monsters may have to join you.......
DAMNIT! Gwaihir...you better be getting some o' the right kind soon, or the god of hemp will be pissed off! Oh, and btw heres the full story: Kevkas was born to a noble family, but as they had figured out a rivalâ,¬,,¢s dark secret, he suddenly used that which he had kept secret, and took over the town with his undead minions; revealing himself as a powerful lich. Kevkas was the only one of his family to survive, and has since then harbored an extreme hatred for the undead, and wishes to amount enough power so that he can take back the city and avenge thei deaths.)[/, easy killings that way...or just super fun. BTW heres the full background story:
If you want hemp, get some yourself.
Now now people, he's got 50 feet of hemp. that's easily enough for all of us with plenty left over for the pink elephants to have some.
(and yes i am fully aware that pink elephants are for shrooms, not hemp)
...what if I don't want to share my hemp...?
I appears that a friend of mine will also likely be joining us so we'll have 5 people now. Likely start date will be next Sunday or Monday evening.
spiffin. Same thread, or elsewhere?
I'm trying to work on my character I truely am, but by the time I get home I am exhausted. I will try to finish him before the weekend is over.
just don't steal any of my hemp!
Yeah i would start a new thread for playing and this one would be for arranging any seriously out of game stuff (rolls and whatnot would still be in the IC thread).
So see if all the characters can be finished up before the end of the weekend if you can.
High five!
DaÃÂn is ready to rock, unless we make Lawbringer a weapon of legacy. I'll try and find an SRD while I wait for the book to come in.
hey I found something. On http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/legendaryWeapons.htm there are rules for legendary weapons. It's not the stuff in Weapons of Legacy, but it'll work in pinch.
In order for this to work, Lawbringer has to be a magic item anyway. Could I make it +1 or Thundering if I downgrade my armor or something to compensate?
I'll work on setting up the legendariness of it. I know they are technically supposed to be magical to start with, but you are also not supposed to have them until like 5th level or so. So it's just masterwork for now and will become better as you discover rituals and history about it.
(hmm... actually if it's a tribal heirloom you would already know a bunch about it which makes it a fair bit better and takes away from the mystery. hmm.... i'll have to think about this)
Ok. I'm open for anything, but what I had planned was to get Thundering, then Shocking Burst, then Lawful, then start the +1 +2ect. train.
ok I've finished Almax's mechanics, I just have to finish his description and background.
sounds fun.
Alright, gonna put up the IC thread later today most likely. Is everyone ready?
also, do any of you wish to have already known each other beforehand? i'm okay with that. so if you want to just come up with a bit of backstory on how you met or why you're travelling together.
Fine by me.
I'm ok with already knowing each other, but I dunno about writing a backstory. I'm really no good at that.
It doesn't matter either way.
I wasn't thinking about you all knowing each other, but rather maybe two already know each other. If not, i'll just work out some way to have you guys join up.
that works too. Do you have anything on Lawbringer yet?
Hey, one thing. Only Posiedon's guy has an alignment listed.
Please add these when you have a minute.
oh, I have to have an alignment? Can it wait until I know more about DaÃÂn? I generally role-play a character for a little while before I choose an alignment, because I usually choose wrong if I don't wait.
Nah, that's cool. I woulda figured you'd be LN or LG based on having a weapon called Lawbringer, but... yeah, if you guys wanna wait, that's fine.
I'm probably gonna be Law/Neu, but sometimes certain characters just want to be of a specific alignment, and there is nothing you can do about it.
IC thread has been started. Gentlemen, begin your posting.
(ask/pm/post me any questions)
