My dad has a CD recorder. I like to make mix CDs around lyrical themes. The latest one is monkey and ape-related songs.
Mad Caddies- "Monkies"
The Monkees- "Monkees Theme Song"
The Beatles- "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except For Me and My Monkey"
Chuck Berry- "Too Much Monkey Business"
"Tarzan Boy"
The Misfits- "Kong At The Gates"
The Misfits- "Kong Escapes"
The Misfits- "Forbidden Zone"
Animaniacs cartoon- "The Monkey Song"
Disney's The Jungle Book- "I Wanna be Like You"
The Grateful Dead- "The Monkey And the Engineer"
Weird Al- "George of the Jungle"
Simon and Garfunkle- "It's All Happening At The Zoo"
Jim Croce- "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"
Liz Phair- "Banana Splits Theme" (from the Saturday Morning Cartoons's Greatest Hits)
Jethro Tull- "Bungle In The Jungle"
Ren and Stimpy- "I'm Gonna Be A Monkey" - "Dizzy Monkies" (from the You Eeediot Album)
The Irish Rovers- "The Unicorn Song"
Ray Stevens- "Guitarzan"
REM- "Disturbance At The Heron House"
Devo- "Go Monkey Go!"
It's done now, but I may redo it sometime if I get better ideas. Is there anything that I missed? Is there anything so weird you must have an explanation?
Counting Crows - "Monkey"
Dave Matthews - "Proudest Monkey"
dude, how is there no gorrilaz on that CD?
also, king kong by tom waits.
How in the name of all that's simian is this list missing The Kinks - Apeman?
the travelling wilburies: tweeter and the monkeyman
Thanks all for the tips.
I'm starting a new mix tape. This one draws its central theme from the major arcana of the tarot deck. Sometimes it's based on the meaning of the card and sometimes it's just based on the name of the card.
So far I've decided on:
0 The Fool: "What's My Age Again"- Blink 182
1 The Magician: "The Wizard"- Black Sabbath
2 The High Priestess: "Life Uncommon"- Jewel
3 The Empress: "Glittering Girl"- The Who
4 The Emperor: "Princes of the Universe"- Queen
5 The Hierophant: "Maggie's Farm"- Bob Dylan
6 The Lovers: "I Believe In a Thing Called Love"- The Darkness
7 The Chariot: "Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme)"- Queen
8 Strength: "Holding Out For a Hero"- I don't know the artist, whoever is on the Shrek 2 sdoundtrack doing this song.
9 The Hermit: "Burnout"- Green Day
10 Wheel of Fortune: "I Lost on Jeopardy"- Weird Al Yankovic
13 Death: "O Death"- Ralph Stanley
15 The Devil: "Satan's Fall"- Mercyful Fate
19 The Sun: "Here Comes The Sun"- The Beatles
21 The World: "Wild World"- the Me First and The Gimme Gimmes cover of the Cat Stevens song
That leaves:
11 Justice
12 The Hanged Man
14 Temperance
16 The Tower
17 The Star
18 The Moon
and
20 Judgement
up for grabs. I'd be glad of any suggestions.
The Hanged Man: Renegade by Styx.
The Star: Rockstar by Nickelback?
The Moon: Bad Moon Rising by CCR?

Oh my Gods. I was looking for a way to incorporate Styx into this and this is perfect. Thanks much.

The Moon: Bad Moon Rising by CCR?
I don't really know Nickelback or have any of their albums, but thanks for the suggestion.
I was kind of thinking "Bad Moon Rising", I just had one or two other ideas at the same time and was trying to decide on the best one.
The Tower: All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix. .... or hell, even Dave Matthews ;) )
For the tower take the live U2 version of All Along the Watchtower from Rattle and Hum. Its a very good version.
For justice, how about Mesopotamia by the B52s? Not a perfect fit, but...
I've got "sun" suggestions, but it looks like that's already well covered.
Justice- I Shot The Sherrif, Bob Marley
Actually, quite a few songs have some sort of "justice" theme to them....
Edit- For The Tower, are there any songs you like that reference Babylon?
Ooh, never heard the U2 version of AatW. Anyone have a link or a clip I could hear?
Oh... I can't believe I passed up a chance to reccomend Karma Police. A somewhat darker take on justice, that. Or maybe for judgement.
