The howling hordes fall back. Trumpets sound. As the Orc Wars draw to a close, victory is at hand. But something is amiss--shadows creep from the forests, all of Caervenfor grows quiet in an unnatural hush. And in this calm what storm will follow in the aftermath of war?So, the last play-by-post campaign I tried to run never really got off the ground for whatever reason (maybe it was because of the elves, i don't know) but I have confidence that this one will work.
*It begins at approximately 3rd level.
*Standard D&D ability roll
*Really, any character type is acceptable. The heroes belong to a sort of militia regiment in the service of Caervenfor against the orc berserkers. Avayevnon races and classes are to be used. T'kel would be unlikely, but are not prohibited.
*Skills and feats from the Players Handbook
*No Psionics
*Come up with at least a basic character background, including character motivations.
*Go ahead and use Ishy's Character sheet format, except for Alignment. For alignment, you may choose which Astrological Sign best fits the character's personality. That is your character's Sun Sign. Your character's moon sign will be determined randomly by a d12 roll.

RULES OF POSTINGIn order to speed gameplay there will be certain rules on posting in the IC thread, once it it up:
1. Post Rolls to hit and damage rolls in the same post
2. Do not wait for the DM (me) to respond to a post if it is your turn. At the end of the round I will do a single response.
3. Take your turn within 24 hours of the last
4. No acting out of turn
5. Always post current HPs at the each new battle post
We'll have the characters get acquainted here a bit before the campaign begins. Have fun, and welcome to Caervenfor.
Woo. I'll join.
[ic Archer] Ah, what the hell, it's better than sitting around here...
[spoiler Backstory] Richard Grazewall grew up in a quiet hamlet in Sassory as the son of a candlestick maker. Life was never very kind to Richard who was inept at the family trade and fell into a deep depression at the age of 16 where he soon turned to alcohol as a way to forget his woes. Despite being a fairly likable fellow, Richard was never able to attract any sort of female attention and thanks to several drunken attempts, he developed a heavy misogynistic attitude. At the age of eighteen, under heavy pressure for his family, Richard volunteered for the local militia to combat the invading orcish hordes from the north. It was here he met his mentor, an old knight from Corbin named Sir Russell Oberyn who had been dismissed into retirement for having lost a leg, arm and two fingers in some ancient battle. Sir Oberyn trained Richard and a few other men and boys to fight with sword and bow, to fight on horseback and to follow orders. Among his group, Rich soon found two fast friends. He never learned the boys' true names, but instead they were called Dog and Pockface. After managing to hit three bull's-eyes in one quiver at forty meters, Richard soon developed the name Archer, which he found he liked better than his given name.
For a while, Archer had a good life and his drinking problem abated. Soon the militia was called into action as Sassory was overrun by the inhuman monsters. While traveling to meet up with a main body of recruits, a group of Orchish scouts ambushed them. Sir Oberyn, Dog and Pockface all were shot down before the few scouts were turned away. Archer found himself with only a few strangers from his unit. The leader of the survivors, a fat man with a shaggy black beard, damned the whole thing and decided to go south and avoid "dying for some self-righteous king in his castle." Everyone else decided to go with him, as everyone had their fill of bloodshed. Archer remained, however, for some reason which he could not express. He stole Sir Oberyn's weapons and armor as well as half a dozen horses which had been left, stupidly, by those who had followed the fat man. He took what he could and followed the path toward the fighting. Along the way he managed to pawn off some of the horses for good coin to passing refugees, though he came to curse this as his own horse broke a leg soon after he had sold the rest.
At last he found the Caervenfor army, where he managed to slip into an archer block and make a few drinking buddies. For the rest of the war he continued to fight, sometimes changing units. Most of his coin disappeared as he sought out his cups wherever he could and somehow he never felt like he had a place in any of it.[/spoiler][spoiler Appearance] Archer is a lad of 20 who has a decent face, dull brown eyes and black hair. He's been letting his beard grow out into a bushy mane that matches his rough head hair. He bathes more than most soldiers, but he never changes his clothes, giving him a stink of mud, sweat and manure. In body he is tall, just over six feet, though he is slim and stick-like. The combination of miss-matched armor, wild hair and a thin frame makes him look a bit gangly and exadurated, though his motor skills are far above average. The scent of rum or beer is often on his breath and his teeth are starting to rot.[/spoiler][spoiler Character Sheet][ic Archer]Player name: Raelifin

Yay! First entry! I'll start keeping track in the initial post
I'm claiming a spot for me. I'm not as keen as Raelifin so I'll post up a character in a little bit. But I'm reserving me a place.
I think I want to join. :D
I can finally play a dwarf capitalist... ho ho.

Indeed you can. I am eager to see it. Once you have something I'll add you to the list.
I'll join this.
hmm... what to play...
Oh man!
Halfling Swashbuckler FTW!

Kewl. We're up to four, and this has only been up today so far; this is already going better than the last one.
Count me in.
I'm thinking about doing something unique with race and class... I dunno what yet.

Good to see ya. Yeah, drop the lowest of the d6 rolls on each.
*EDIT: When I quote your dice rolls I get different results, so I'll leave them to you.
Are fire arms martial or exotic? and how much do they cost.
Also, can you dual weild pistols with TWF?
Firearms are exotic. Pistols can be dual wielded, but remember that each only gets one shot before reloading.
Hand Cannon costs 50 gold
Pistol costs 75 gold
Arquebus costs 140 gold
Ribauldequin costs 300 gold

Character Background and Description
Born into a normal, rich dwarven family in Baldurbrock, it was obvious from his youth that Aldabrat was not quite the average dwarf. Where most dwarves preferred swinging an axe or the might of a hand-cannon to reassure them, Aldabrat preferred the subtle mastery of the rapier and pistol. In arm-wrestling he was only average, but in duelling he could defeat all comers. Although he loved his clan and wanted to protect them from everything, he always wanted something more... to explore the world. And thus, he joined a dwarven caravan bound for Caervenfor, bearing a large amount of gold, some food and clothing and weapons for the journey, including two prized pistols inscribed with Dwarfcommon runes spelling out 'Fiery Death'. He had to complete the journey on foot - there was little room for trade in Caervenfor during the wars - and he found work there as a mercenary. As the war drew to a close, he thought perhaps he could return home, to his clan... but strange things are happening, and he begins to realise that he may never see his clan again...

I assume in this description that you will allow swashbucklers to be auto-proficient with pistols, as it seems in their flavour, but as I didn't write it in (due to my ignorance of your firearm mechanics) I will happily change it.

That character is fine, so long as you can come up with a good reason why a T'kel would be in a Caervenfor militia.

Yeah, they can have them.
As to Sun & Moon Signs: Sun is your primary personality. Moon sign is a lesser, repressed side. Mechanically, you merely suffer penalties to resist spells, etc that would make you act as your moon sign would indicate.
Lucky Actions come into play with a Profession: Astrology check. They are part of a horoscope for the day. If no horoscope is cast, then no action is deemed lucky or unlucky.

uh... Cast out from his clan (He's a Theist) becuase of his sorceror-ness, he wanted to get as far away form his homeland as possible, and wound up here? I'll elaborate, obviously, but would that work as an outline?
I'm trying to get through your entire setting, but I was wondering if you could point out a few parts that I absolutely need to know, so I can prioritize the reading instead of simply moving down the massive blocks of text.

Read about your race and class, the sections of "Geography" that deal with Caervenfor, Ithegra, and the Burning Bog. Caervenfor relates to the campaign, the others relate to your character. Also read on religion to get a feel of the world. As a sorcerer, read the Magic section (though I have yet to test and refine some features of the magic system. If you are uncomfortable with the new system, for now we can just use standard D&D Vancian magic.

Cool. I've read through the magic system, and I'm fine with it. I do need to know more than what's there though, like how much each spell level costs to cast, what the spell lists are, etc.

Don't take this a gospel or anything, but I think Jharviss is playing either a cleric or a pally. Either way there'll be
some healing. Speaking of which, WotC's website had a teh awesome Paladin variant that didn't have a mount, but gained a bunch of other schweet bonuses like extra healing and attack bonuses for allies.
Edit: Oh, and Stargate, I'm getting right on those spell lists. I'm going to try to do away with most of the flashy spells to make magic more mysterious. As to mana point cost per spell level, for now I'm gonna use the chart they use for psionic powers I found in the SRD.
Sweet! Nothing but swashbucklers and fighters with low wisdom scores. This is gonna be the most impulsive party ever.

Character Background and Description
Raised to become a merchant, Jelmaâ,¬,,¢c was exiled from his village after he began to show his magical aptitude. Angry at his people for not accepting him, magic and all, he swore to get as far away from his homeland as possible. For him, that meant joining up with the first caravan heading north. He eventually wound up in a Caervenfor militia. Heâ,¬,,¢s unwilling to talk much about what happened to him between his exile and joining the mercenaries.

Ah yes...
1D6, 18-20. I'll fix that now.
Yes, I do believe I will be playing as a cleric, though I'm going to go check that paladin variant you were speaking of, Seraphine. I love paladins, but the basic class is kind of, shall I say, bland.

we can be the five musketeers!
I get a bonus to wisdom, so I'll probably be the one shaking his head while saving you guys from your antics. Should be fun.
I call dibs on Porthos.
Although for me, i would totally call Dibs on Cyrano instead of one of the musketeers (as evidenced by my guy's last name. I freaking love Cyrano de Beregerac. It's so amazing)

All the way from jolly old England?
Wales! Even further! *looks shifty*
Well, it that case . . .
Wait. Prove it. Prove you came.
I never did Cyrano or any more classic plays like that.
I've mostly performed plays of more contempory authors like David Mamet and Harold Pinter (they're awesome), as well as by Daniel MacIvor (my favourite person in the whole wide world).
Also did a few plays by Elmar Maripau - my former drama teacher's husband and an excellent playwright to boot.
Most of the stuff i've performed have been ones written by myself or friends of mine though. (i miss writting plays. I should start again).
would have loved to do Cyrano, though. It's fabulous. (i am so jealous of you)

Character Background and Description
Cruvagn was born 112 years ago in Sylvaea, specifically a small village called Zhuinthamum not far from the border of Bizhentluus. Cruvagn's father was a druid, one of note or so he was told. His mother was an apothecary, and with her he spent most of his time as a child. He had two elder brothers, both of which were keen on giving him a hard time. They too practiced druidism. When Cruvagn was less than two decades old, his rough elder brothers held him down and tattooed a rather crude image of a mistletoe onto his right shoulder blade, laughing and saying it meant that he was going to die. Cruvagn always resented them, watching other elves and knowing that these two were among the few that behaved like such animals.
Zhuinthamum was a center for druidism. A large Temple of the Oak overlooked the village and many came to visit it. Therefore, none should have been surprised when a small raiding party from Bizhentluus, the seed that would later become the Inquisition, tracked several powerful druids, people they were terming terrorists, to Zhuinthamum. The town was razed and a few were captured. The rest either escaped or fell beneath hoove and blade. With luck, Cruvagn was captured. He knew that his brothers had been captured and his mother slain by a stray arrow, but he never found out what became of his brothers afterwards. Cruvagn, still young at 30 years of age, was claimed by a squire named Kiuss deth Lorainne. Cruvagn was treated well under Kiuss, and two years later the human became Sir Kiuss deth Lorainne.
For sixty years, until Sir Kiuss could do virtually nothing for himself, Cruvagn served him. Kiuss taught Cruvagn as a brother. Kiuss taught Cruvagn of the One God and of Anahita, the angel of life. Yet Cruvagn also learned of the other angels, and quickly realized that these were truer than anything elven society had taught him. He became dedicated to Anahita yet never scorned any other angel. However, Kiuss was closely associated with many inquisitors, and so Cruvagn learned of Bethor. While the teachings sometimes conflicted, Cruvagn knew that all was necessary for the greater good.
Cruvagn eventually befriended Kiuss's daughter, Oriwyn, and later her son, Hevilus. Kiuss died 23 years ago, just as his grandson, Hevilus, was reaching thirty. Hevilus and Cruvagn too became close friends, finding many traits similar between Kiuss and Hevilus. When Hevilus went northward to join the war, it was only a couple weeks before Oriwyn, whom Cruvagn loved dearly, asked Cruvagn to go forth and protect her son. Cruvagn left Bizhentluus for the first time since his capture and made his way to Caervenfor, where he joined the militia.
Cruvagn carries himself completely upright, as he was taught by Kiuss. Due to this his full elven height is seen, making him considerably over six feet tall. His ears are long and eyes slanted, and his skin has a light tanned tone to it. His eyes are a vibrant green and he keeps his light brown hair well groomed and pulled behind him into a ponytail. He wears vibrant field plate that is crested in gold. Both his armor and his kite shield have images of the angel Anahita on them. He often wears a helm with large finned ears. On his left side are belt are two short swords, longknives as he calls them, and he keeps a flail on his back, slanting down, with the large, mace-like head of the flail also attached to his belt. He keeps his bow on his back, just under his filled packpack.

If you'd like to start, Stargate, you may post an IC comment here to one of the other characters, to get things going. Introduce Jelma'c to Ilio, Aldabrat, or Archer. Introduce him to all of the above. Here's a scenario for you.
[ic]You sit clustered around a campfire just off the battlefield. While bitterly at war, neither side is engaged in combat presently. For a little while at least, you are free to relax. At least, insofar as relaxation is possible on this patch of rocks and weeds at the edge of the forest. You've been told that victory is near. So it would seem; the King himself has come to lead his men. The king's tent, better than a common man's house, lies just a little past the thicket deeper in the woods, in a comfortable clearing. It is rumored that the King even had a bed brought along. You have no bed. But, what you do have is the most excellent salted pork, also brought by the king. If he doesn't bed you well, at least he feeds you well. And so you sit around the fire with three or four others of your regiment, resting and awaiting the battle of tomorrow.[/ic]
Expect one in roughly a quarter of an hour.
If one of you wants to go first, be my guest.
three, should have been three....
[ic]"Salted Pork." Jelma'c says to no one in particular, "I never could aquire a taste for it." Nevertheless, he spears his third piece onto a stick and sticks it into the fire.[/ic]
[ic]Aldabrat spears another piece, but stays silent, his other hand always on one of the two pistols he carries even now at his belt.[/ic]
Quote from: Golem[ic]Aldabrat spears another piece, but stays silent, his other hand always on one of the two pistols he carries even now at his belt.[/ic]
[ic]"Interesting," Jelma'c says, "It's not often I see someone using pistols, let alone two. How did you come to own such fine pieces?"[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]Aldabrat looks up, biting off a chunk of pork. "Well, in my homeland we obtain... many imports. My grandfather made these himself, from a design which the gnomes brought him..."
He nods.
"He never used them, though. He was not a pistolier... he believed he could sell them to a wealthy dwarf. But when he lay dying, he bequeathed them to me... he probably did not imagine I would actually USE them."[/ic]
[ic=Jelma'c]"A memento of your homeland," Jelma'c nods his head, "You're lucky to have one." He rips a chunk out of his meat.[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]"Perhaps. My homeland grants many memories... hopefully I may travel home at the end of this cursed war and see my family again."[/ic]
[ic=Jelma'c]"Doubly blessed." Jelma'c says, "As for me, it'll probably just be another war, another battlefield, and another chance at getting killed. I have nothing as pleasant as family to look forward to after this."
"What are you even doing here, if you've got family?"[/ic]
[ooc]I'm going to be heading out in about 15 minutes.[/ooc]
[ic=Aldabrat]"My family thought me odd. I prefer these weapons to more... traditional dwarven equipment. I learned to speak common fluently - despite my father telling me that Dwarfcommon was all I would ever need - and I did not want a life of trade to overcome be before I had seen a little of the world..."
He looks slightly bitter for a moment.
"Not precisely what I had expected."
[/ic]
[ic=Jelma'c]"At least you were thrown out for something you could have changed. Me, I figure out how to do a couple of parlor tricks, and they brand you as a sorceror..." Jelma'c looks at Aldabrat, "Seems we're a group of misfits."[/ic]
[ooc]And I'm out for the night.[/ooc]
[ic Archer]The man called archer looks up from the campfire. With a scratch at his rough beard he looks over at the "sorcerer" and says "Parlor tricks, eh? Like coins coming out of ears and all that? You should show us some. You know... for those of us who don't make it."
Ah, what am I talking about? Is not like the dead'll care what they did the night before...[/ic]
[ic]Sauntering over to the fire, Ilio pulls off his overly large hat and hangs it on a branch protruding from one of the logs nearby. "Ya wouldn mind if I have some of dis, would ya," he says as he whips out his rapier and spears one of the remaining peices of pork. He takes a large bite out of it then cries out. "Agh! This aint even cooked! Ya coulda warned me," he excalaims as he rests his blade against the rocks of the campfire with the meat in the flames and drops himself to the ground to leand against some convinient logs.
"Was speakin with some of the sentries not half an hour ago. They ain't quite sure what's up, but hopefully we'll finally get some more excitement by morn. I certainly am hoping for it. All this waiting doesn't agree with me." He pause in his chatter to pull out one of his pistols and begins to clean it - even though you could swear he had just done this no more than an hour ago.[/ic]
[ic=Jema'c]"I don't perform." Jelma'c says quietly, "but if you watch tomorrow you might see something. My bag of tricks is a little more potent than a parlor illusionist."
Turning to the newcomer, he asks him, "Why are you in such a hurry? You think tomorrow will be a good day to die?"[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]"Tomorrow will be a good day for enemies to die, that is to be sure."
He looks with interest to the newcomer.
"Nice gun there, friend..."
[/ic]
[ic]"Aw, this thing? Well, it's not bad, a matched set actually," he replies pulling out the other and tossing it to Aldabrat. "Notice the vine engravings on the side? Fabulous work. Marelous story behind how I got these. Probably shouldn't tell it though. There was a lady involved and I don't want to come off as a cad. There used to be a crest, though, just below the hammer - y'see that smooth patch, yeah right there. Scrapped it off ages ago."
Turning to Jelma'c, he replies, "Well, tommorow would be as good a day as any to die - for me or the enemy. Although i find the Reaper to stand by my side more than most. Hasn't got me yet though, and if tommorow's not my time, well I'll be sending a few his way. That's for damn sure."
He pauses to think for a minute, then goes on. "Nah, it's mostly just the anticipation of it. In the thick of it, thinkin on yer feet, filling some other poor fool full of steel or lead - well, there's few times ya feel more alive than that. But sitting here... I just can't stand those times you got nothin to do, but can't even leave to go find something."
At this moment the meat he had dangled in the flames catches fire, and he leaps forward with a cry to extricate his meal from the flames.[/ic]
[ic Archer]Archer chuckles at Ilio's folly and takes a long draught from his skin. "Well, you may get your wish, my little friend. I've never seen orcs be patient for long, and we got 'em for sure now that thuh king is here. Or that's what I heard anyway." Pushing away the meat, he continues to take occasional drinks.[/ic]
[ic=Jelma'c]"With any luck, we'll be sending our enemies to their afterlife, and not us. Would be a shame to have new friends killed the day after they're made."[/ic]
[ic]Aldabrat quietly draws both pistols, beautifully engraved with dwarven runes and a glittering gemstone each, and holds them out for inspection.[/ic]
[ic]As he finishes off the searing hot pork, Ilio notices the firearms in Aldabrat's hands. "Now those are fine peices of work. I'm guessing gnonish bases, with a little bit of customization. The decorative elements are definitely a dwarven touch. Am I right? Mind if I have a closer look at one of them?"[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]He grins, and nods. "You would be right there. Original gnomish design, but built by a dwarf - you can tell by the ridged barrel, and by the gems, no?"
He holds them out to Ilio.
[/ic]
[ic]"Beautiful things, these pistols." Jelma'c watches the various exchanges from his seat, "And here I thought they were somewhat rare."[/ic]
[ic]Taking the pistols from the dwarf, Ilio places one down in his lap, then holding the other by the barrel, flips it up into the air and catches it by the handle. He rapidly moves his arm to aim at various nearby targets, occasionally spinning it around his finger between. "Y'know, these are a lot lighter than i wouldn've guessed from looking at them, although I guess that's what you'd expect from gnome design," he exclaims as he hoists the second pistol in his other hand. He then spins them both around to present them back to Aldabrat handle first, "They're beutiful peices of work. What do the runes say? I was thinking that one on the side was something to do with sight or seeing, but I've never really gotten the hang of runes."[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]He takes the pistols back. "They read: Fiery Death." He grins slightly. "They are made in a somewhat odd fashion... I am not sure how it is done, but these little holes on the end here produce flaming sparks when the weapon is fired. Probably wasted powder, but it can be useful to impress fools and younglings..."[/ic]
[ic]"Fiery death, huh? Wow, I was way off. My rune reading skillz could use quite a bit of work. Just never seem to have the time."
Ilio finishes cleaning and reloading the pistol he was working on, and reaches his hand out towards Aldabrat as he holsters the pistol.
"Could you pass me the other one back. I want to make sure they're in good working order for tommorow."[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat]The dwarf tosses it across.
"Care for a... shooting match?"[/ic]
[ic]Hostering the second pistol, Ilio replies, "well, it could help to pass the time. Officers may object to having pistols being fired off, though. Besides we should let those as wish it get some rest. I notice you too carry a rapier."
At this Ilio leaps nimbly to his feet and onto a nearby log, drawing his blade and striking a rediculous pose in one fluid motion. "Are you any good with it?" he asks with a wry grin.[/ic]
[ic=Aldabrat] He does similarly, striking an oddly graceful pose on the opposite end of the log and drawing his own rapier.
"I can hold my own."
He grins. [/ic]
[ic Archer]Smirking, Archer snorts at Aldabrat's comment. "You'd best watch out, dwarf. I hear nobody can match a halfling in a battle of reflex."[/ic]
[ooc]Y'all are in such a rush. At least my character sheet is pretty, unlike some other rushers around here.[/ooc]
[ic=Cruvagn]Cruvagn leans back, his gauntleted hands behind him and propping him up. His helmet, his two longknives, his trident, his bow, and his flail all sit to his right, within arms reach. His bedroll, shield, and backpack are to his left, meticulously laid out. His helmet is in his lap, which he is cleaning with a slightly moist rag. His armor is still mostly on, not having removed it for the night yet. He watches the two, the halfling and the dwarf, jumping up for a duel. I hope they know what they're doing, he thought. "Be careful you two."[/ic]

[ooc]Wow! Watch out boys, we've got a hero in out midst! One quick question: how does detect alignment work with these rules?
Oh and nice character, Jharviss.[/ooc]
Quote from: Raelifin[ooc]Wow! Watch out boys, we've got a hero in out midst! One quick question: how does detect alignment work with these rules?
Oh and nice character, Jharviss.[/ooc]
Seeing as alignments work differently, there are actually two varieties of
Detect spells and effects. Paladins get Detect Opposing Religion, which reveals if an enemy is Pagan or Heretic. It does not specify what brand of Druidism (Sylvaese, Iluvinese, T'kel, etc,--Though that may be easy to determine) nor will it reveal the Demon a Heretic worships. Those are the domains of more powerful divinations.
The other kind, which I do not believe is relevent at present is a spell derived from astrology detecting the Astrological signs of targets. This could be useful for manipulating them via their moon sign.
[ooc]Awesome, I was wondering that too. But now I can find heretics and pagans! I love to kill pagans and heretics! Woot! So, where were we?[/ooc]
[ic=Aldabrat]"So you believe, my friend, but you haven't seen me in a battle yet!"[/ic]
[ooc]We don't need no dang heroes, Jharviss! We're a rag-tag bunch of diverse and slightly drunken mercenaries! :P[/ooc]
[ic]Turning to minimise his profile, Ilio holds his blade down but ready as he shifts his weight from foot to foot and waits for his opponent to move.
"I am surprised to see a dwarf so light on their feet. Normally your people seem so clumsy to me. No offense meant, of course."[/ic]
[ooc]initiative roll [dice]1d20+4[/dice]

[ooc] Initiative roll [dice]1d20+3[/dice][/ooc]
[ic=Aldabrat] Aldabrat does the same, and nods. "It is rare. But not worryingly so..." He similarly lowers his blade slightly.[/ic]
[ooc]Ready an action to attack if he does, if you will. :P Right little stand-off...[/ooc]
[ooc]To tell the truth, i've never fully understood how readying an action works.
Nominate you as my dodge target. The ac in brackets is using the grace feature form being a swashbuckler (applies against one hit per round). I am taking a -2 to hit. I'll tell you why later.[/ooc]
[ic=Ilio hp 14, AC 20(28)]
"Have at you," Ilio cries as he shifts his weight lunges at his opponent.[/ic]
[ooc]Attack roll [dice]1d20+6[/dice]
no damage roll (just going to touch or pricks him.
parry roll if you use your readied action to counter [dice]1d20+6[/dice] [/ooc]
[ooc]Similarly, I nominate my dodge bonus against you., with the brackets indicating my Grace bonus.[/ooc]
[ic=Aldabrat, hp 28, AC 17 (23)]
Aldabrat easily dodges the first blow and lunges.[/ic]
[ooc]No damage roll for me either, he's only aiming to touch rather than hurt. [dice]1d20+6[/dice][/ooc]
[ic=Ilio hp 14, AC 20(28)]
"Excellent form," Ilio says, eaisly parrying mis foe's conterattack. "Try this one," He proclaims as he pulls a slash short, then flips the blade in his grip and reverses his thrust.[/ic]
[ooc]Attack roll [dice]1d20+6[/dice]
no damage roll.
parry roll (for on your action) [dice]1d20+6[/dice] [/ooc]
[ooc]roll to confirm. (just for fun) [dice]1d20+6[/dice] [/ooc]
[ic]His surprising strike slides through the dwarf's defenses and pokes him lightly in the shoulder. "First point to me, my friend," Ilio exclaims as he steps back and readies his blade for the next exchange. [/ic]
[ic]"Ack! I shall have you for that!" Aldabrat grins and presses the attack.[/ic]
[ooc][dice]1d20+6[/dice]
Evidently, Aldabrat's more of a gunfighter. :P
[/ooc]
[ooc]Why do we keep getting 6+6??? Ookay, go try cool swashbuckling moves. Lemme know if you think i should use the rules differently. I had this awesome idea to tumble pat you and then kick the log as a sort or trip attack, but i then checked the trip rules and realised i had them wrong. -4 small, +4 dwarf, uses my strength instead of an attck roll or dex = not gonna work.
Aww man, on closer inspection all the special combat things are harder if you're small. Dammit. So much harder to be an awesome swashbuckler now. Normal attacking it is then.[/ooc]
[ooc]Attack roll [dice]1d20+6[/dice]
no damage roll.
parry roll (for on your action) [dice]1d20+6[/dice] [/ooc]
[ooc]Come to think of it, maybe i should stop playing halflings so often - expecially combat front liner halflings.
Of my last bunch of characters, i've had
-halfling fighter barb
-halfling barb warlock
-feral halfling barb
-halfling knife thrower
-halfling fighter scout
-halfling swashbuckler
-gnome sorc
-orc cleric druid
-half orc fighter druid
-human monk warlock
-human monk sorceror
-human cleric necromancer
Lots of dulicate or almost duplicate characters there[/ooc]
[ooc]I'm not heroic - I brutally murder pagans and then eat their children. What about that is heroic? Anyways, I keep watching the fight. This is entertaining to me.[/ooc]
[ic]Aldabrat dodges the weapon with humiliating ease, and then jumps off the log, kicking it.[/ic]
[ooc]Trip attack. Ha HA!! :P
[dice]1d20+6[/dice]
[/ooc]
[ic]Aldabrat hits the log with a crack.[/ic]
[ooc][dice]1d20+2[/dice][/ooc]
[ooc]Way to steal my moves.
Dex check [dice]1d20+4-4[/dice] [/ooc]
[ooc]wow! a natural one on a roll with no modifiers. I thought there was no way i could fail against your 6.[/ooc]
[ic]As the log rolls, Ilio attempts to leap gracefully off, but his foot catches in a small hole and he tumbles to the ground. He manages to turn it into a roll though and after a brief minute rolling across the ground, he leaps once more to his feet.
"Hey, very good. Improvisation is the mark of a true master. But what now? Do you follow through? Or did i stumble intentionally to trick you into overextending yourself? Are you able to properly read your opponent?"[/ic]
[ooc]Tumble 15 feet back [dice]1d20+10[/dice]
then stand up
bluff check about whether it was intentional [dice]1d20+10[/dice] [/ooc]
[ooc]Sense Motive Check: [dice]1d20-1[/dice]
Ha![/ooc]
[ic=Aldabrat]"Pfft. Don't think you can fool me..."[/ic]
[ooc]Man, how can i roll a nat 1 for an easy trip attempt, recover, then immediately roll a nat 1 for my bluff check to not look like an idiot (and you still only beat me by one).
oh well. Your turn.I had to use my standard action to stand up from prone. [/ooc]
[ic]Aldabrat shouts something in dwarfcommon and presses his attack.[/ic]
[ooc][dice]1d20+6[/dice][/ooc]
[ooc]I say that due to the presence of all characters, we should this show on the road.[/ooc]
I am in the process of constructing the IC thread right now.
[ooc]For the sake of tying up loose ends, I am going to transition this into the IC thread[/ooc]
[ic]The sharp sounds of steel sing to you as the horns of war resound. The respite is ended, the final battle begins. . .[/ic]
Wait... does that mean it's dark out?
no. The Battle begins while it's still dark, but the fighting you're doing is in the early morning. There's enough light to call normal lighting conditions.
So basically there's a gap of a few hours between the call to arms in this thread and the fighting going on in the IC thread--enough hours for dawn to have come.
It's been a ridiculously long time that we've been away from this, which is actually my fault, but I was wondering if anyone would still be interested in getting the game going again?
does this mean you guys aren't interested? In either case I'd like to know what you guys are thinking. just let me know one way or the other.
Sorry, I must have missed the last post. Let's get a roll call and see who's still alive.
well, i kinda dissapeared for a while, but i am planning to be back as of now, so yeah, i would want to continue this.
Ok, I didn't get much response when I tried to get this thing going again. Raelifin and Captain Obvious seemed interested, Jharviss said no, I've yet to hear from Golem(aka Wensleydale) or Stargate. I don't know if it's at all worth it to try to continue, but if anyone still feels a desire to play, please respond.
I'm interested.
Yay! If Rael and Captain are still interested that makes 3.
eh, not so much any more. My real life group is in full swing RPing season, so I'm being kept busy.
which puts us at 3 yesses and 2 nos. That's not good numbers. I could run an NPC, we could see if anyone else wants to join, or we could just be done with it. Unless you guys who said yes think we can do it with three.
Well, it's been a while for this game, and if it drops, that's ok, but if we continue I'll need to remind myself of what's what. Maybe you could just kill off the two of them? It'd reduce baggage, give some room to roleplay, etc.
If we do continue, I think it'd be cool to start a new thread and have a summary at the beginning.

Yeah, killing them off seems like the only sensible way to keep going without them. (Especially since we're in the middle of a battle--which is also rather convenient for killing them off)
Ok, so Raelifin is willing, Wensleydale is interested, and Captain Obvious WAS interested. . . Still with us Captian Obvious? If so I'll post a new IC thread so we can continue.
Or you could have them captured. If they change their minds in the future, we could find them, if not... casualties of war.
Captain Obvious tells me he would be interested but doesn't have time right now. Would you guys be ok if we scheduled it to start in a few weeks?
Yuh-huh.
Fine by me.
