[ooc]Rolling Story, Take Two (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4984.0) fell apart because of super silliness. This is a third attempt at making a rolling story and I would hope that silliness won't make its way into this one. That is not to say humor is not allowed, it is encouraged, but please don't go overboard. Now for the rules:
1. Write a bit of story to continue where the previous poster left off.
2. A poster can't do two in a row. (Unless a week has passed since your last post)
3. Please keep it semi-serious. Humor is encouraged, but please do not go overboard. If you want something completely zaney please continue Take Two of the rolling story, which is linked above.

Now for the story:

â,¬Å"The creaks are nothing to worry about. This floor is perfectly safe.â,¬Â William proclaimed as he stomped his foot on the dust ridden wooden floor. A loud snap is the floorâ,¬,,¢s response to Williamâ,¬,,¢s claims. Dust billows up as the five foot six inch tall human disappears through freshly made hole in the floor of the abandoned farmhouse. Stale air invades the nostrils of Williamâ,¬,,¢s companions.
Twenty feet down the young thin man dressed much like an average commoner, leather breeches, a loose tan shirt and a leather vest, coughs a few times to expel the dust. William tests his legs after the fall, not paying attention to the questions about his well being coming from above. â,¬Å"Nothing seems broken or sprained, just a few bruisesâ,¬Â, he says to himself. Relieved he survived the fall; William looks around the dark room. The faint light is not enough to allow him to make out much of the details, but he can see the outline of a door in front of him.
â,¬Å"See I told you Iâ,¬,,¢d find something interestingâ,¬Â, William yells up to his friends.
Above the hole the others look at each other trying to determine their next course of actions. Finally a woman replies â,¬Â¦

[ic]"What did you find, Will?" calls out his sister Megan. He doesn't answer, so she continues. "Will. Quit screwing around. What did you find that's so interesting?" With no response, she looks around at her other companions, wondering what to do.
"There's like some kind of room down here. Don't think it's very big, but there's not much light so i can't be sure. Gimme a minute," he calls up, as he begins to walk over to the door, squinting in the gloom. "Woah, that's strange. The whole room down here is just packed earth and some wooden planks, but this door... it looks like it's solid iron. Must weigh a ton."
"Will, come back up here. This place has collapsed once. It might still be shaky."
"I'll be fine," Will replies to his sister, as he reaches towards the doorknob, "I just want to take a look at this door. It will just take... Aaagh!"
Will cries out and stumbles back from the iron door and falls to the floor. "The door. It's ice cold. My hand feels frostbitten," he cries out. He is about to continue when a glance at the door steals all other thoughts from his mind.
Slowly spreading across the door from where he touched it a hundreds of tiny glyphs, glowing with a faint blue light in the gloom. [/ic]
[ic]As Megan unsuccessfully tries to coax her brother out of the hole, Gurvin, a tall muscular man clad in a silvery chain shirt, grabs a rope from his pack. He ties it to a sturdy looking support beam and tosses the end into the hole. â,¬Å"Grab the end and weâ,¬,,¢ll pull you upâ,¬Â he yells down.
â,¬Å"No, we came here to explore and Iâ,¬,,¢ve found something interesting.â,¬Â William replies. â,¬Å"Why donâ,¬,,¢t you come down here? And bring Meg, she might be able to decipher these crazy symbols.â,¬Â Gurvin looks to Meganâ,¬Â¦
[/ic]
[ic]...but receives nothing but a vacant stare in return. "You remember what happened last time Will found something 'interesting', "You're going down first." She gestures, "that support looks sturdy enough, even for you." Chuckling quietly, Megan settles down to shuffling around in her pack as Gurvin attempts to respond...[/ic]
[ic]... but is quickly cut of by Megan. "what are you looking at me for. He asked for you. Will, is there enough light down there? I don't have anything on me, but I could run back to the house. Will?..." But no reply comes from the darkness.
Oblivious to the squabbles above him, Will's eyes remaing fixed upon the door, and it's faintly glowing runes. Pulling off his vest, he wraps it around his hand and gets to his feet. He approaches the door cautiously - the runes glowing brighter with each step forwards he takes. Reaching out his cloth-swathed hand he lightly touches the door once more.
"KRACK!"
With a blinding flash of blue light and a boom, the lanky man is thrown across the room where his head connects with the far wall with a sickening thud. As he slumps to the ground, the rune he touched pulses faintly once more, then goes out, while allthe others around it shift ever so slightly to fill in the gap. [/ic]
[ooc]ThreadEvoker you didn't leave anything for the next poster to build off.[/ooc]
[ic]A thud and a cloud of dust signals the arrival of Gurvin from above. Bearing a splintered piece of wood, which might have been a support from the room above, he looks frantically around. "Will? Are you alright? I can't see anything for the dust down here." he manages to say through coughs.
A chance breeze clears the dust enough to see for a second, and Gurvin gasps in awe, or horror, at the sight of...[/ic]
[ooc]I got it covered ;)[/ooc]
[ooc]Sorry, my bad guys. I didn't realise it had to end with "..." (i just kinda figured that the next person could work off of the end of a scentence just as well).[/ooc]
[ic]... the cold metal door bubbling, as if it were boiling. Each of the bubbles has runes racing across it, and they swiftly ooze out on either side, dripping slowly off some form beneath, which is revealed to be...[/ic]
[ic]... a horrible face with two sets of curling horns and a mouth openend in a silent scream. The whole image has been crudely carved into the iron of the door with long gouges, but inside the visage's screaming mouth is the imprint of a left hand, fingers spread wide, indented into the door. All of the glowing runes that once hid the image, now are scattered around it's outside where they shift back and forth, but never aprroach the face.
Gurvin looks over at Will, but...
[/ic]
[ic]Will is already heading toward the door, hypnotized by the dancing runes. He pushes the door, which opens with ease. A blast of air stirs the dust once more. It isn't the stale air from some long forgotten crypt, but fresh clean air. There is also a faint hint of something cooking. Gurvin tries to grab him, but Will moves forward through the dark doorway. Torches lit, illuminating a long carved hallway with many turnoffs. "Come on", Will beckons, "This is what we've been waiting for." Without waiting for his companions, Will heads down the hallway.
Gurvin sighs in resignation. "You might as well come down here, we'll have to keep him out of trouble as always." Megan jumps down into Gurvin's arms. Megan looks at her brother walking slowly down the hallway and says...[/ic]
