Hello all!
I have to apologize I haven't been able to browse and help out the CBG recently. Life!
In the interim I'd like to let everyone know about our Contest.
PlotStorming.com (http://www.plotstorming.com/) is having its First Contest, and we'd love to have CBGers come over, say "hi," and take part.
PlotStorming.com goals are very similar to the CBG: we're community that's here to help writers and gamers. The Community is there to help with plot, story, character, and world development. Generally we like to focus on the "fluff" -- we're here help shape a better story, and in RPGs that means a better gaming experience.
The gist of the contest:
The First Contest will be an homage to the Community. On the forum, members bring basic ideas (settings, plots, adventures, characters, etc) and ask the community to enrich and improve the idea with their creativity. Well, the First Contest is similar: it provides a bare-boned idea that the the contestant will have to flesh out. In a way its like an Iron Chef competition; where the contestant has to use all the provided ingredients to make a wonderful meal, but of course this contest is for writers and gamers.
All entries must feature the provided seeds, but how they do so is up to the contestant. The entry can span the breadth of the creative categories on the forums (short story, setting idea, plot line, etc), so the contestant isn't limited. If the contest inspires you to create a new setting or campaign, build it. If a short story begins to take shape, write it. The only limit is word count: min 1000 and 2500 max.
The Seeds (that must be featured in Contest entries):
Genre: Fantasy
Morality: Shades of Grey - Good and evil are not clear cut
Entities: Undead, a young girl, and a lost key
Judging and Prizes:
As stated before, the judges for the contest will be the community. Creativity, originality, and quality will be the keys. Because this is the first contest it will have prizes for the first three places -- its best to start off on the right foot. The three with the most votes will win merchandise from Amazon.com (whatever they want; to be determined once results are finalized). The value of the merchandise can meet but not exceed (including any taxes and shipping) the following values:
1st: $50
2nd: $30
3rd: $20
If you're interested, stop by (http://www.plotstorming.com/), read the rules (http://www.plotstorming.com/news/latest/the-first-contest---may-2007.html), and enter the contest (http://www.plotstorming.com/forum/index.php?board=11.0)! We'd love to see you there!
Nathan
Sounds good. I'll try to write something up to enter; thanks for the heads up!
Same here. Expect to see an entry from me as well.
Only Three Days left for those of you who'd still like to enter the contest (http://www.plotstorming.com/news/latest/the-first-contest---may-2007.html)!
