So I was trying to make a balanced game system to kick off my Avatar d20 idea, posting everything in another forumn, and apearantly it was starting to look like the SAME system. (Not that I've ever seen it before). Any way, here's what I've got:
design process and full story (http://bb.bbboy.net/thegamingden-viewthread?forum=6&thread=119)
Ability Scores STR DEX CON
Ability mod = (Ability Score - 10)/2
Initiative = 1d20 + DEX mod
Health Points = varies + CON mod
Attack Score = 1d20 + STR/DEX mod + 1/2 level
Attack Damage = varies + STR mod
Defence Score = 10 + DEX mod + 1/2 level
Damage Reduction = 0 + CON mod
When I had every body dealing 1d3 damage, and starting with a base 6hp, it was balanced if I gave the stronger guy (STR 12) a 1d4 damage stick. The other two variances where DEX 12 and CON 12 guys.
When I increased HP to a base of 7, and every body got sticks, mister STR 12 had to get a club (1d6 damage) and mister CON had to get an additional one DR to stay competitive. This left mister DEX 12 behind, 'till I gave him the Imp.Initiative skill, improving his chances of going first and getting that third hit in.
I'll be adding The Edge rules, which can be found here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9776648&postcount=7
Another concept I'll be adding can be found here: http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?15000
The entire premise of my system is that a set piece fight between two equally powerful characters will on average last 10 d20 rolls. At first level, only 5 of theses will lead to other die rolls, meaning that on average the first character to take three hits will loose the fight.
I'd like some comments while I figure out HP progression, scaling damage and armor.
Updated the other thread. Rules for stances, maneuvers, combos and damage.
Hey, Tome of Battle. Eat your heart out.
