Not until it is actually uploaded. :D

According to lulu's cost calculator, the Hardcover 8.25 x 10.75 should cost (including a small profit   ) just shy of $30.00.
I am really jazzed about it, but the struggle at the moment is converting artwork to b&w and grayscale.

Oooooh... publishing...

Any chance of some fluff for the races? They seem a bit dry.

Yes, when I redo the race pages, I am including some of the fluffy bits, as well as class fluff. It will be part of the OGC.

Wow, I'm amaized at the amount of change you've introduced. I'm currious as to your use of MP/PP/Resource Points; I may have to utilize that idea as I've always wanted my setting to have MP for all classes but never thought to have it used as Action Points.

I'll do my best to read as much as I can soon.

Critique of what I've read so far: Your creation story seems a little wordy, but that's probably just because I'm horrible with names and you threw a lot out there very quickly. It's interesting, and I can't wait to see how far you take the chinesse elements. The way you structured your races is interesting, but there are so many. I'm assuming they make up all of the intelligent monsters and peoples the world will utilize?

And I was afraid my creation story was too brief!!   :book:

With the notable exceptions of giants and dragons, the player races make up the bulk of intelligent critters.

As for Resource Points, I liked action points, I liked spell points, but I wanted to keep it simple.  I have adjusted a few of the numbers and will be editting the site this week, but the concept has been solid in playtesting.

THough you will no longer see it on the website, the paladin and its variant and a few other classes did not survive playtesting.     :chophead:

I may utilize your spell points = action points idea for my setting: I've been considering adding a form of action points for my Void mechanic, but it could end up working out better as  spell points, if only to keep the number of extra rules down.

That guillotine emote is hypnotic ... .. . . .

Alas, the first book looks like it will be artless, save for the cover.
The grayscaling of the interior art is not meeting the minimum dpi specs. explode:
 :furious:

Since it weighs in at 450 pages, doing color art would make the price astronomical.

The second book, the gazeteer, is only 150 pages, so it will have color art.

Wow... 450 pages? Where's all this material? Hiding it from us? Don't you know the penalty for hoarding knowledge?! The Librarians will end your life! Unless it's all hand-written or something, then I can see the aversion to transferring it all onto a word processor.

The different types of classes drawing from different spheres is a cool idea. I just like the sound of the different "spheres" and the idea that everyone has some source they can tap into. I'm sure it will make a fun game mechanic.

The creation story is a bit wordy, and somewhat breif, but it sounds like a creation story. It sounds like the kind of thing a holy man would preach and the common person would have to accept as the truth. It sounds interesting, and the inclusion of eastern elements like metal and wood is a nice touch. Something different, spices up the game a bit.

Onward! Publish!

CYMRO, have you gotten a chance to playtest the MP = Action Points thing yet? I'm worried that characters may have too many action points in a given day and that will drastically change the balance of the game. What have you discovered in playtesting?

Resource Points= Action Points has gone fairly well in playtesting.  I had to fiddle a couple of numbers, and it does make for more powerful PCs, which is the reason for the 25 PB.

450 pages for the basic CS, which is 95% OGL.  The second book (at 150 pages so far), 95% product identity, is fluffy stuff.
I just moved into my new house last week, so the updates to the website and such have been a low priority.  Much will get done this week, since I am on a mini vacation.    :ball:

The spheres seemed a natural response to the question of the origins of power.

I tried to make the creation story "canonical", but in the case of Altvogge canon is truth as well. :priest:

So after almost two months of playtesting, tweaking, editing, whining, crying, eurekaing, and etceteraing, the Altvogge players guide is hours away from going to the printer.  All that is holding me up at the moment is the front cover art, but there is no rushing my fiancee.
All of the basic stuff, including the new spell/power lists are on the website.

Lots of power increases, making this CS great for small (2 or 3 players) parties.
Heavy racial tweaks.  I amped up humans so I could remove most racial penalties.
Clerics and monks got radical makeovers so they fit my theme better.

Well, the player's guide to Altvogge, ALTVOGGE: ADVENTURERS AMONG THE SPHERES, is now a real life book, and the proof copy is winging its way to my hoose.

At the above lulu storefront, the e-book version can be downloaded for a limited time for the low low price of absolutely free!  Around the middle of July, it will be available for download for $1.25.
The hardcover edition is a bit more pricey:  $27.50 plus s&h, and state sales tax, where applicable.

I figure another two months on ALTVOGGE:  GODS AND GOVERNMENTS to be ready at my current lazy pace.
It will have, obviously, the complete deity write-ups, gazetteer, multiple maps, etc.  And a new spell/power section, to round out the d20 ogl requirement.

edit:  Gods and Governments will be available about July 25th!

ALTVOGGE (http://www.altvogge.com/)

The website got a facelift, though not it is not entirely done.
This week will see the posting of the Rhalial dragon info.  I changed some of the basic ten MM dragons to better suit my aesthetics.
The basic types are now Black, Blue(the old green), Red, White, Yellow(the old blue),
Gold, Silver, Platinum, Copper, and Iron.
I always thought that it wsa silly that two of the basic dragon types were named after cheap alloys, and that the third primary color lacked representation.

The download is so cheap because there is no printing cost.  That $1.25 represents the total royalty split between me and Lulu.com.  You also don't get the cover art.

If I may ask, did sales meet your expectations?

And what did you do to get the word out into the wider RPG community?

QuoteAnd what did you do to get the word out into the wider RPG community?

Aside from having a link on the Altvogge website to my lulu storefront, and mentioning it here and on the Discworld MUD, absolutely nothing.

Well, I'm fairly active on a number of RPG-related forums - most notably on RPGNet and ENWorld, and apart from having a link to it in my signature, I also plug it in appropriate threads (usually in threads like "tell me about your homebrew", "I am looking for a setting with these features..." and so on) - and I've started a thread or two on my own on a specific aspect of the setting if I think it's nifty enough and the whole thing won't be considered spam. I've also added links to Urbis in every online dictionary for campaign worlds I could find. I've even created a mailing list, though it doesn't exactly generate much traffic...

As a result, Urbis has developed a small fan following even well before it has been published - and the two incomplete playtest drafts have been downloaded about 700 times, as far as I can tell.

This makes me rather hopeful for eventual publication that I will find enough ready buyers for the setting - and it also reaffirms the old adage that if you want to succeed, you need to tell the world about your product. After all, the online RPG community functions by word-of-mouth for the most part, and it is the publisher whose mouth needs to open up the most.

So maybe you should consider spreading the word a bit, too. It can't hurt your sales numbers, after all...   ;)
