Title: The Guildies!!! (Nominations and Discussion Thread)
Post by: Ishmayl-Retired on May 31, 2007, 11:03:08 PM
Okay folks, here's where you'll put up your nominations for the Guildies awards.  Remember, there are eight categories.

1 - Friendliest Poster
2 - Rookie of the Year
3 - Old Folks
4 - Best Username
5 - Best Setting Badge
6 - Best Avatar
7 - Most Prolific Poster
8 - Best Original Crunch
9 - Best Setting

Let's define each of these.

Friendliest Poster - This member is always helpful, and is known for rarely (if ever) having anything negative to say to anyone.  This member meets and greets newcomers and old timers alike, and always has something nice to say.

Rookie of the Year - This member is no older than four months old on the site, and has contributed in many useful ways, including (but not limited to) reviews, creating crunch, participating in the Guide, etc.

Old Folks - This member has been a regular on the site for at least a year (from the time of this posting), and has contributed in many ways since the CBG's inception.

Best Username - This username is original, fun to roll off the tongue, and has been with the member for awhile now (aka, the member is known by this username).

Best Setting Badge - This badge is a beautiful work of art (for a 22x22 graphic) that you feel accurately describes the tone of the campaign setting it represents.  Or, you just think it looks cool! :)

Best Avatar - This avatar is original, and well-descriptive of either the personality, or the name, of the member.

Most Prolific Poster - This member may occasionally have harsh criticisms, but it cannot be doubted that he never posts unless he has something useful to say.  Maybe he doesn't even post that often, but when he does, everyone on the site notices.

Best Original Crunch - This mechanic is flavorful, balanced, and original.  (The crunch creator takes the prize for this one).

Best Setting - This campaign setting is very well detailed, with enough information to run an entire campaign, and is full of unique, original features.  It is acceptable that the setting is hosted somewhere other than the CBG, as long as the setting's author is an active member of the CBG.  (The campaign creator takes the prize for this one).

Here are the rules again:

*All nominees must accept their nomination.  If you're nominating someone who hasn't been around the site much lately, you need to get them here to post in the thread and accept their nomination.

*You cannot nominate yourself.

*While I appreciate the sentiments, I will not be accepting nominations for myself.  That does not disallow brainface or Eldo from being nominated though, so if you are so inclined, do nominate them for things.

*Nominations will start being accepted at midnight tonight - 12:00 AM EST, Friday, June 01, 2007 - and will run through 12:00 AM EST, Sunday, June 17, 2007.  That gives you two-and-a-half weeks to nominate people.

Get to nominatin!

Friendliest Poster - How wonderful. There are so many people on this site this title would look good on.

I nominate Rose of Montague.

Most Prolific Poster - This one has Luminous Crayon written all over it (no offense Rael). Even if he just posts some vague ideas for a magic system or a new RPG everyone is all over it.

I nominate Luminous Crayon.

Best Setting - Can you nominate a setting that is very well-detailed, except not on this site?

I nominate Kalos Mer/Tasothilos.

I nominate:

2 - Rookie of the Year - MittenNinja ( I wish I could nominate two because there is another)
3 - Old Folks - ElDo
5 - Best Avatar -Ravenspath.

I will post picks for the others later.

Luminous Crayon!

And thank you Raelifin and beejazz for your respective nominations.

I think that as a qualification they should at the very least be members of this site.

To answer a few questions:

You can nominate a setting that is off this site, as long as the setting creator is an active member.  (ie, not someone who joined, then never posted other than to point off the site to).  The reason for this is not to disqualify quality sites or settings, but rather, I want to keep things as Guild-oriented as possible.

And guys, why I thank you so much for your nominations of me, they really mean a lot (I love my turtle, too!), I will be declining the nominations.  I should have mentioned that I won't be participating (I would feel silly giving myself an award if I won :)).  However, don't let that stop you from nominating Eldo or brainface if you are so inclined.  I'm not disallowing them from participating by any means.

Salicious Angel, do you accept your nominations?

Cheers!

Okay, updated with my answer about off-site settings, plus I added a ninth category:

Best Setting Badge - This badge is a beautiful work of art (for a 22x22 graphic) that you feel accurately describes the tone of the campaign setting it represents. Or, you just think it looks cool! :)

If someone decline our nomination can we select a new nomination?

Setting badge - Shadows of the Last Alliance by Captain Obvious

Poseidon - Yes, you can change your nomination if someone declines.

Also, for the Best Setting Badges award, should we award the person who authored the setting, or the award the person who created the badge? (which is often two different people).  Or hell, just give each person an award for that one?

Unfortunately for Seraphine Harmonium, he doesn't fit the requirements for Newbie of the Year.  I don't qualify, and he's been around longer than I have.  Alas, but oh well.

While I'm posting, I don't think I saw this, so...

I nominate ElDo for Friendliest Poster.

All of these nominations for LC make me wish I knew him better.  Sorry LC, there's always the future.

I dono, having created around half of the setting badges (13/26 by my count) I think it'd be all-around more interesting just to give the award to the setting creator. Badges are more about concept anyway.

Old Folks: Eldo
Best Username: Eldo
Best Setting: Kishar/Phoenix Knight

3. Old Folks - Xeviat
4. Best Username - Salacious Angel

I accept the nomination for best avatar and I'm most flattered, but I don't feel that I can accept the nomination for best setting - I just don't feel that Pirates is, objectively, anywhere near the same league as some of these other settings and, of all of them, is probably the least complete. Still, thank you very much for the nomination. :)

Best Username - Rose of Montague (Uranium, you came so close to taking this :) )
Best Avatar - Luminous Crayon
Most Prolific Poster - Raelifin
Best Original Crunch - Xeviat
Best Setting - It's going to take me a bit to figure this one out.

I'm gradually getting around to the post where I explain what I've been up to during the past few months. In the meantime, suffice it to say that Ishy dragged me by the lapels into this thread, and I'm glad he did. It's good to be hanging around this site again.
Also, he threatened to start opening up little shadowfells in my apartment if I didn't post something quick, and I'm having enough trouble keeping the place tidy as it is.
I'm quite flattered to have been nominated by so many people for so many things, although truthfully I'm a bit confused. I can think of maybe one category I feel I qualify for. I'm not going to thwart the will of the community by refusing any nominations, but please, when it comes time to actually vote on these things, vote for somebody more deserving than myself.

Enough maudlin sentiment. It's good to have been missed, but it's better to be back. I've got some ideas to share: Triad System things, Jade Stage things, general building strategy things. Look for that stuff to be posted soon.

Right now, I guess I'd better think about who I'm going to nominate.

D'oh, now you guys see why I opened this thread for this? :)

As far as acceptances go, if the poster is a regular here (which both mittenNinja and Cap Obvious are), I'll leave them up.  The whole "acceptance" thing was more for those users that don't show up anymore; I didn't want to give awards to someone who wouldn't be around to show it off, you know?
