So that's it then, no more Stargate SG-1. Comments go here, as well as eulogies, remembrances, favorite moments, and one hopefully rousing speech by me (once I sleep on it).
As the resident stargate fanatic, It falls on me to make this thread, so here's to SG-1 for the memories, the laughs, and the adventure. We'll never forget you.
*plays taps*
Stargate, SG-1 and Atlantis. I used to watch them religiously, even traveling to other peoples houses to catch the new epsiodes after my mother shut off our cable television.
I know Atlantis isn't over, but SG-1 was a special thing to me. I lost track of the show in recent seasons, but at one point I watched upwards of 14 hours a week in an attempt to keep up and catch up with the show.
SG-1 has been good to us all. May it rest in Peace. or better yet, find funding on a new channel and come back to us all. :D
Well there will be at least two direct to DVD movies, but it will pale in comparison to the greatness that was the series.
Indeed. I have just begun watching it about 2 weeks ago, but I love it. Thank god for TiVo! Seriously though, there are still so many things i haven't seen in the series, so until I have watched every episode (and not even then) will it be dead for me. Great ending, though...with Teal'c in that field thing during the explosion.
Hey, I just had an idea...why don't we make a Stargate Campaign Setting?
Ahem. (http://www.stargatesg1rpg.com/products.html)
You're right though. I don't want to spend 100+ bucks on a discontinued setting, and I'd much rather make my own.
I will totally start a thread about it tomorrow.
*switches from trumpet taps to bagpipe mourning song.*
Hmmm...it would be pretty fun making up all sorts of Ancient technology.
aye, or zat guns.
Hmm...you think we should attempt to incorporate the 9th Chevron in? or would that be too much?
We wait until 2008 some time, when we find out what the hell it does.
Can't wait to figure out the racial attributes for Asgard, Nox, and Goa'uld.
Asgard: +8 Int, -2 Con, -2 Str, +6 Wis
Goa'uld: +3 Everything
I will now gaze a moment in silence at the full set of Stargate DVDs, seasons 1 through 8 plus a couple Atlantis, that sit across the top of my TV. While I loved the series it is my wife who is positively the fanatic and who bought all these (and watches them over and over again). We don't have a big DVD collection - mainly these, LotR extended edition, and a few discs to keep the kids occupied.
In my opinion the brilliance of the series was due to the following:
* An awesome plot device in the form of the Stargate - whoosh, in a moment you're someplace new and exciting
* The normalcy of being set in the "real world" and the occasional mundane interactions caused the crazy stuff to stand out that much more
* O'Neal and his sheer stoic matter-of-factness (along with his ability to completely miss the technical mumbo jumbo and not give a rat's ass)
* The interaction of the key cast members - awesome chemistry. You could tell that they sincerely were having a good time
* The constant toying with the audience and especially the subtle comments for hardcore fans by playing with the 4th wall: the audience itself. They regularly laughed about the fact they were on a TV show, without ever breaking character.
Favorite scenes? The ones that made me laugh, which were too many to count....
- O'Neal and Teal'C both juggling paper balls in that one time loop episode
- Carter (I think) humming the SG-1 theme song in an elevator
- Someone saying "can't we just McGiver it?" in front of O'Neal...and no one blinking
- O'Neal covering Teal'C's true identity by wryly saying "He's not an alien, but he plays one on TV...."
- The episode with Wormhole X-Treme (or whatever it was), where the producers and writers of SG-1 played actors in a TV show based on the real SG-1, and SG-1 acted as advisors (one of the actual writers has a line: "who writes this crap?"). You have to watch it to get it all straight, but once you realize who everyone is it's absolutely hilarious.
- All the little things, such as in tonight's episode where someone asks "How do you tell the Asgard apart?" and Daniel responds "It's mainly the voice". Funny thing is, he IS the voice actor for Thor, the main Asgard character...there's tons of stuff like that throughout....
Anyway, I'm sure I'll watch and own the movies as soon as they're available...here's to the longest-running sci-fi show ever....
Yeah, I'll miss it. I was kind of surprised by the finale not giving O'Neill a big guest star role. It seemed like that would have added some final symmetry.
It will be interesting to see how Carter integrates into Atlantis. I think would have also liked to see Jackson in one of the other shows; he probably became my favorite character on the show.

I hope Carter can make it in Atlantis, and that Jackson shows up on the third series. It won't be stargate without Jackson somewhere.
Some of my favorite moments and quotes;
*"Crazy, nuts, insane, no longer in possession of one's mental faculties, three fries short of a happy meal, [holds up ketchup smiley face] WHACKO!"
*Most of the scenes where Daniel is dying from the radiation.
*"College football is played on saturday, pro on sunday, and there are no fish in my pond... at all... in the one I fish in..."
*"My name is Olo. Hans Olo."
*"No sir, you can't name it the Enterprise."
*In the body-switching episode, when Teal'c and O'Neill some down the ramp doing each other's personalities for the first time.
*In the final episode, when the whole team beats Teal'c to the 'indeed.' (should have been the last thing said dammit!)
And that's only a few.
Personally, one of my favorie moments that I can recall is history's longest drive in the time loop episode, when O'Neill hits a golf ball throught the stargate. Rockin'!
You know, the time loop episode was just awesome...hands down my favorite....
In terms of favorite baddy, I have to say that Baal's multi-dimensionalism (Is that a real word? 'Tis now...) has always been fun...though I also really liked Apothos.
Never cared for the replicators...you just couldn't get any good banter in with a replicator....

I dunno about that. Jackson's face-off with the replicator Carter was fun to watch.
As for villains, I'm old school. System Lords ftw.
I've only seen two episodes. The first was when MacGuyver was on the show, the second was when he was gone, and I had no interest in watching the show without him.

Well that's a bit unfair, he was there for eight of the ten seasons.
Yeah, I know. :( I honestly didn't really even like the episode I saw with Richard Dean Anderson, but I thought he brought with him some redeeming aspects. I've watched a lot of sci-fi shows, and I fully admit that I never gave SG much of a shot, but I feel like a tv show should be able to pull me right in, and when I give it two separate chances, and neither appeals, then there's not much sense in continuing with my efforts.
Do you remember which ones you saw? You might have just been unlucky, and caught two of the slow ones.
There have definitely been some lame episodes and concepts. Personally, I thought super soldiers had very few redeeming qualities. I also thought the Altantis episode before the finale was pretty bad. Anyone else have an opinion on the episode with Michael and his genetically engineered lobster/squid/cockroach/dude-in-a-rubber-suit baddies?

A pretty good attempt at a horror genre episode. I know I was freaked out at some points.

Nope, sorry :-/
I don't suppose I could convince you for a third time?
My suggestions are '1969,' the first episode, 'window of opportunity,' and maybe 'wormhole X-treme!,' and '200.'
As I mentioned in the Tavern, I've never seen the show. That said, some of the memories mentioned here make me feel like I've missed out on a really good thing. I'll add my lack of memories into the mourning.
