Title: The Setting Writing Project
Post by: SDragon on June 24, 2007, 01:55:17 PM
Ispired by previous projects such as  The Draw Someone Else's Work Project (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?12824), and  The Adopt-A-Setting Project (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?6384.post), I've come up with the idea of The Setting Writing Project.

This project is pretty simple in scope:

Members can sumbit their settings for the project, and writers, in their spare time, may take a look at the settings, and write something on one. The writing can range from poetry (as written by somebody living in the setting), to short stories, to "personal" recollections of major historical events, to just about anything else one can imagine. Obviously, all work is considered unofficial until the setting creator acknowledges it as official (or even canonical, depending on how much of an impact it makes to the setting).

I'll try to keep a list of settings for the project in this thread. If enough people like the idea, I may also keep a list of the writings here, too.

Dilandri is in sore need of this, as stories are the only way I'm telling the history...

Wow... I forgot this was here!

Wait... Dystopia's on here? Sweet!

Then to find time to write up and post Moons of Megillot (formerly known as Scifi Theater) and Might, Magic, Steel.

Moons of Megillot is already up there as Sci-Fi theater, but if you want, I'll change the name for ya ;)

Do you have a link for Might, Magic, Steel, so I can put it up?

I haven't posted either yet. Theater got a bit of a revamp (hence the name change), and MMS is going to be the finalized version of something else I did a while ago.

It'll be up soon. But no promises as Monday is my first day of school in the past two years (huzzah!).

Ah, okay. I misread your last post. Should I take down Sci-Fi, then?

Please put Battles of the Star Angels and Space Devils on the list. I'll also be looking thru the other stuff to see what I can add to them.

Edit-> I'm still open to a suggestions for a better name for my game.

Stuff for anybody:

D&D Necromancer Tactics:
Ghastly Tackle:
Place a few intelligent undead with respectable physical strength in the horde of expendable mindless zombies. When the zombies and enemies clash, have the ghouls bull rush the zombies forward. As per bull rushing rules in the PHB, entities that are bull rushed into an occupied square fall prone in it. Then have the DM rule that a flailing prone zombie is difficult terrain.

Vampires and Koosh Bats:
Equip the vampires and vampire spawn with weapons that deal non-lethal damage and have them attack militia and conscripts. Then have them feast on the now helpless and unconscious enemies and regain some HP. Rinse and repeat. Even if you loose some vamps, tomorrow night you will have more vampires.

Shadow Hazard:
In the middle of the night take a weak and helpless victim to the centre of a densely populated area, and have a controlled shadow kill them via STR drain. By morning, almost the whole city will be a hive of shadows.

Dealing with Hallowed Areas:
Wands of Fireball, Lightningball, Acidball, Coldball or any other energy substitution you can acquire. Fireball has Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level) range that rivals archers and has relatively awesome accuracy. Remember that structures don't get a reflex save, so property damage is very likely, allowing you too melt or shatter churches and temples and stuff.

Red Mohawk Goblins
Goblins have a number of traits that make them the prime targets of enslavement by warlords and mad wizards bent on world domination. They're easily bullied, reproduce really fast and don't particularly care if a relative dies.
The fact that they don't understand the concept of property rights is a double sided trait that can be compensated for.

The Red Mohawk Goblins are a clan of goblins (little green things) that has been enslaved by a mighty red dragon. But instead of having the grots form into mobs and pillage every  town within her sight, Red Queen Tee'Kax has taken a safer and slightly lazier approach to increasing her treasure hoard. She has them mine for treasure.
Strangely, when the goblins tunneled into a dwarven mine, she made a deal with the chunky rock people to instead use the goblins to help them mine better and teach the grots new techniques, instead of degenerating into another war.
After some aggressive negotiations, the dwarves chiseled an agreement contract on mining thru out the whole chain of mountains.

100 yeras later, Tee'Kax is often regarded as the wealthiest  merchant int he world, trading in whatever can be mined from the mountain chain she has claimed as her roost. She also has a plethora of half-dragon goblin offspring policing and directing her workers and training them for whatever combat threat she perceives eying her territory.
Also, she's become extremely lax in her greed doesn't go into a rage when one of her grots grabs a fistful of coins for whatever reason. The fact the she's almost endlessly pampered may have something to do with that.
