*I would like 4 players, but if more or less join, I can work with it.
*Start with 4th level characters.
*Standard D&D ability roll.
*Wealth at 4th level is 5,400 gp; you can spend up to a quarter of that, or 1,350 gp on a single item.
*Though I haven't covered this yet in the Threads thread, the only allowed races are humans and elves.
*If you can come up with a simple background or even just motivations for your character, that would be nice. However, since Threads is threadbare, I'm not expecting much here.
*I'd prefer if you host your characters at one of the various 3eProfiler sites, like Myth-Weavers (http://www.myth-weavers.com/), but anywhere is fine.
If you want to use non-System Reference Document (http://www.d20srd.org/) material, please let me know; in most circumstances it should be fine. The only outright ban is on Tome of Battle material; since I don't own it and haven't read it, I'm not comfortable using it.
Once I see the kind of response I get on this thread, I will post a bit of an exposition. In reality, the whole exposition is the biggest change from the real-life version I am running, because I was introducing Dungeons and Dragons to four new players, whereas here, it is a safe assumption that most of you have some previous experience with the system.
Also feel free to IM me with any questions, my screenname is limetom on AIM, Yahoo, and on MSN (remember to append @hotmail.com here if needed).
I'll take a look at it tonight, but I'm about a week from going on vacation.
I'll try and read your setting today in the car (road trip!). I am not familiar with tese character hostingsites though. I'll have to check that out.
I'm not going to sign up for this game, due to my inherent inability to play D&D. However, I just wanted to say kudos for quoting Blake. God, I loved that poem...
I'll be gone without internet access from July 9th through the 17th, but I might be interested.
I couldn't think of a decent introduction, so let's just jump in once everyone is ready:
[ic]"A hive of scum and villainy."
You thought the old man was just senile for spouting a hackneyed line like that, but upon your entry, you can see the old man was right; Moira's Caravan district is one of the seediest places you have set foot in.
The bouquets of various draught animals wafts through the air, along with the scent of fresh rainfall, despite the midwinter snow on the ground.
People mill about despite the cold, most on business, but a few others in similar professions as yourselves. The few who actually conduct business wholly within the district seem to run four kinds of businesses: houses of ill repute, resellers of goods with no questions asked (by the buyer, anyway), "reward" collection agencies (the "reward" being bounties and payments, among other things), and inns.[/ic]
I have a little more to add onto this, but I'll get to it once your characters are finished and the [IC] thread is up.
Alright I'm in, I have to do some painting but I'll try and get a character up today. Can we post our characters in here or pm them to you?
EDIT: Found your Mythweavers reference.
Questions: What classes are allowed/not allowed? Are there any restrictions on magic/items that you would like implemented?
Ya know what, I'm in too! I just have to figure out what the hell I'm playing as.
SO many options! O.o
im in
can i play spellthief from complete adventurer?
im thinking bard but im not sure
maybe a pure sorceror or...cleric... hmmm
I think I want to play an Auarh-Kreshi Ranger
how about gunslinger(the second on list) on WOTC bards?
actually the third one. its the one by Nick Kahoshi(whoever that is)
could you send a link to that?? i would love to play one if its allowed
Unfortunately, firearms do not exist in Threads. Sorry that's not clear. The tech level is about the same or perhaps a little lower than standard D&D.
If you find anything else to your liking like that, just let me know and I'll give it a "yea" or "nay."
puppet master looks awesome
that's a prestige class though
limetom, i cant seem to find information on your setting, only a small section on one culture.
no its not. it is base class in peach orchard
see for yourself: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=836825
You got room for one more?
Quote from: So-Keherlimetom, i cant seem to find information on your setting, only a small section on one culture.
I apologize, but that's all there is for now. Fortuitiously, that's the culture you all are playing in. There are three other cultures as well: the Ahuatlan, a Meso-American-esque culture in the far southern jungles on the mainland; the Umia, a Berber-esque culture in the northern desert wastes of the mainland; and the Namaddu, a Sumerian/Akkadian-eqsue metropolitan culture located around a bay the middle of the main continent.
when should i begin making my character?
Howsabout an Essence Reaver (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=812239) ?
Quote from: Jedi Master YogurtHowsabout an Essence Reaver (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=812239) ?
It's just a little too unpolished for my tastes. It seems balanced, but I'm not sure. The class just doesn't seem to fit in well with the setting. If you have your heart set on it, go ahead, but otherwise, try and find something else.
A quick note, this will be much more roleplaying-oriented than combat-oriented.
Guess I'll just go with wizard.
Rogue, focusing on diplomacy, etc more than dungeon delving. maybe multiclass into sorceror or fighter. i like the classics ;)

Ah, then my rather sneaky hunter of a ranger (who happens to be rather socially awkward) should mix nicely!

Please reread the first post in this thread. You'll find your answer there. ;)
on second thought, i won't be a puppeteer. some things in it are left unfinished. i would like to play a Survivor: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=763811
or spellthief
Quote from: 763811 [/quoteor spelltheif
I'd prefer the second, but either is acceptable, I guess.
spellthief it is
BTW, for class ideas, if you can tell us, around what level range will this take us to?

Not really sure, perhaps two or three levels higher.

Character Background and Description
Hjarv Fazxel, has lived on the streets for all his life. He knows nothing more and he has a way with people that he developed as a street magician. He has often been accused of "stealing magic tricks from other preformers". That is true. He however has never admitted it. His accusers commonely dissapear. Fazxel is often attacked if the accusations persist but he is capable of defending himself on the street. Many accusor's bodies have been found in crude, but deadly traps. Even with these crimes all pointing staight at him, Hjarv seems to charm almost everyone he meets. He is ruthless, but that is a must for those that wish to survive the streets.
At his Shked Gotje received his ceremonial dagger, symbolizing that he could now begin to defend himself. Soon after his father Ioudo Walo imparted to him his first real dagger which he called Skanto. It had been his father's first dagger and his father's first dagger before him. It was in the tradition of his family that until one showed his prowess in battle he would fight with this dagger. Only after he had proven himself would he receive a weapon crafted just for him.
In the years after his Shked, Gotje began to learn to hunt and gather food for his family, to track beasts by their prints, droppings, and their grazing patterns. This was all in preparation for when he would marry and support his wife and children and become an active member of his village. Towards this end he also began looking for a wife. Courtship, however, was not his strongest suit. Gotje was awkward and tentative around women and oftentimes he made a fool of himself. For help understanding the female he begged his twin sister Tudimina for help. They spent many hours together, Tudimina teaching Gotje how to behave around a woman and watching him struggle to adapt her instructions to a practical use. They became a team, and their bond grew. He grew to love his sister as a partner as well as a sister. They made much progress, and Gotje embarrassed himself less and less with each successive attempt. At the age of sixteen they Gotje entered into the courtship of their third cousin Alalji. This went very well for Gotje and he frequently reported his progress to Tudimina with much excitement, and she would respond in kind.
Not long after this courtship resulted in an engagement, Tudimina found herself the subject of a suitor for her hand and found herself likewise engaged. This was a surprisingly unpleasant shock for Gotje, who had become quite attached to his sister and could not comprehend her leaving him. He had always thought it quite plain that she would come to live with him and his wife. It had never occurred to him that she might marry another. He grew jealous and protective of her, finding faults everywhere in the character of her fiancée. The two nearly came to blows on rare occasions, and Gotje's family looked on him with shame. Tudimina was touched at his concern, but troubled by his disapproval. She went to him and he told her what he'd come to realize. His marriage to Alalji was not because of any attachment to her, but because a man must find a wife and so the marriage was an accomplishment. But he did not care for Alalji. Over the years of searching, he had grown to love Tudimina.
He knew then and there that he would have to leave. One could not love his own sister, not in that way. It was not allowed. He could never marry her because they were born of the same womb. It was best to leave now before he let himself get drawn in any further. But he stayed. And at this moment when he revealed himself to his beloved, his sister, he just sat there as she looked at him. He could not bring himself to take his eyes from her. He could not bring himself to leave her side. She stood and turned and walked the other way. He watched her go, not knowing what was going through her head. It was not until she left his sight that he could find the strength to move. Still he did not leave.
Tudimina's wedding came first, as the arrangements of Gotje's marriage to Alalji were more difficult and required a later date. On the first day of the ceremony he sat with his betrothed as they prayed and paid respects to the ancestors and asked for the blessing of Tudimina and Akero, the bridegroom. Gotje felt the lie in his heart as he asked for the blessing of the marriage and he grew ever more disgusted of his own bride-to-be. He took his leave early, wandering the hills surrounding their village and thinking to himself. He barely noticed the falling of the sun give way to the rising of the moon as the blue sky faded to black. He did not notice the stars, nor the shining of the moon in full. He noticed nothing until he found that he had wandered to where the village was a patch of flecks of light. He knew he had been gone for hours and it would take him hours more to return home. Gotje took the stony path, trudging slowly and carefully, so as to avoid injuring his feet on the sharp rocks, winding his way back home.
When he arrived, it was daybreak. He had gone the night without sleep and was feeling tired. He strode into his family's longhouse and made his way towards his cot at the back. There was his sister Tudimina, bathing in preparation for her wedding ceremony, the water sparkling on her smooth dark skin. He just looked at her glistening body in its full glory. He had seen her naked before, but that was years ago, when they were children and such things did not matter. She caught sight of his staring and gave a start, but made no move to cover herself up. Instead she stood and stepped from the watery basin, letting him take in her beauty. Overcome he gripped her to him; all fatigue had vanished, and he made love to her.
They never saw one another again. They were discovered in bed and already the wheels of justice began. Accusations were flung everywhere, shouts of incest and adultery. Tudimina tried to confess, but Gotje would not allow her to. He took the blame for her, claiming to have come upon her and raped her and that it was only her love for a brother that drove her to protect him now. It was he who was the adulterer and incestor and he who had forced her on her very wedding day to bed with him. It was he who had done it out of jealousy of her bridegroom and with the intent to do him harm. They dragged Gotje and Tudimina away from one another. Gotje was sent off to become one of the Auarh, the Outcastes, banished from his village forever.
Now Gotje wanders in shame. He seeks to find himself, to regain lost honor and dignity, and to end his suffering. Sometimes he wishes to die a glorious death, sometimes he hopes he shall someday see Tudimina again. Sometimes he adventures from boredom, or to relieve the numbness he feels living day to day. Sometimes he merely wanders because he has nowhere to return home to. He is Gotje the Wanderer.

and yes, my description IS extremely short. I came up w/ this about three minutes after i made my charactwer and im not good with long backrounds
HEE HEE my character kill people with traps
QuoteHEE HEE my character kill people with traps
Ahh, Atlantis, your posts always hold me enthralled with their subtle wit.
I'd join, but I have a nasty track record with PbP games. Me to PbP is like the word 'Macbeth' to an actor - good on paper, but bad when actually put into practice, if you see what I mean.
My character will be up soon.

is http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=705693 okay?
Thankfully, I'm not in a theatre right now. :P
Quote from: 705693 okay?[/quoteIt looks fine in terms of power, but consider this first: the adventure you are about to play in will take place completely within one, or possibly a few, cities. Generally people have a little bit of a distaste for the dead, the undead more so (namely the smell, followed by the appearance, followed by various general cultural taboos). Be prepared for the consequences.
Alright then, my character shall be up soon.
Quote from: WensleydaleThankfully, I'm not in a theatre right now. :P
Says you. :-p
So are we the bad guys in this? We already have an evil spellbinder and Atlantis looks like he wants to be evil. My character is chaotic neutral so he could go either way.
Oh, wait, those were both Atlantis. . .
Don't forget, I'm evil!
Oh hey, wait. YOU were necromancer boy. For some reason I thought . . . Oh well. I retract my retraction.

Nice. Everyone will hate us, but like us for saving them. (If there is saving going on. Otherwise, just hate us.)
Y'know, if I was in this game, I'd play a Miko-style paladin, just for the difference. :P
All right, I'll stop nosing in on your thread. But I'll be watching the game with interest.
And the plot thickens... like six day-old pudding. Unfortunately Voran, you are not yet the most hated people in town...

So we don't know who the suspects are and we don't know who they killed
Quote from: VoranIllezouSo we don't know who the suspects are and we don't know who they killed
Once the game starts, you can easily ask pretty much anyone who the "Suspects Unknown" killed, if you so desire.
Yes, Gotje is interested in these unknown murderers. Tracking them down sounds exciting and a good way to distract Gotje from his depression.
yeah, Hjarv wants money. He likes money. thats why he kills and steals.
Voran (My soon-to-be-made character's name) wants bodies. He'll take the job as long as he gets to kill stuff and get bodies. Money helps, also.
I would like to know your rules on controlling undead, creating undead, and making undead armies.
Quote from: VoranIllezouI would like to know your rules on controlling undead, creating undead, and making undead armies.
Abbreviated RAW:
*A sorcerer, wizard, or cleric of 4th level can control undead (through a successful rebuking attempt or the
command undead).
*The creation of undead (via
animate dead) is available at 5th level for clerics or wizards, 6th for sorcerers.
*"Armies of undead" would probably not be available until later levels (granted, creating twenty 1-HD undead at 5th or 6th level is possible).
So, by 4th level I can have 16HD of undead? (Rot Necromancers count their class level as caster level for their spells that they gain, and they also get animate undead by 3rd level
Also, where should I put these undead I control on my character sheet?
Quote from: VoranIllezouAlso, where should I put these undead I control on my character sheet?
I dunno. Wherever you feel like. If it doesn't fit on to it, PM me the stats.
Also, if possible, please try and edit posts to add information instead of making multiple sequential posts only a few minutes later with no one posting in between; it makes stuff easier to read.
From what I've seen thus far, Voran is going to attract a lot of unwanted attention, to say the least. Again, be prepared for the consequences.
Bah. I just leave my minions at the base for now, quaff one of my potions of undetectable alignment, and command my gloves' light to activate. No one will think I'm evil then. Also, if I multiclass into wizard, I can just transform my undead minions to look like, i dunno, a pig?

I dont have the time to do this PbP, apparently. So, I'm dropping out.
Oi! Sir Vorpal, formerly known as Voran Illezou, has dropped out! Limetom, is this enough people? Do you want to keep going? We still haven't heard from So-Keher either.
I for one, would like to play. This would be my first Pbp onn The CBG.
Quote from: Seraphine_HarmoniumOi! Sir Vorpal, formerly known as Voran Illezou, has dropped out! Limetom, is this enough people? Do you want to keep going? We still haven't heard from So-Keher either.
This should be enough; I believe So-Keher went on vacation, so he should still be playing, though I am not sure.
As a note to everyone, this is still open for new players. Right now, I have 3 players (I think...), Seraphine, (I think) So-Keher, and (I think) Atlantis.

Yes. Using the Spell Compendium is fine, too.
I suppose I'd still be interested

PM them to me first for approval; I only own PHB2 out of those, but the answer until I see them is "probably."
Nevermind, I have all my items and spells left. Just some fluffy details to do. Anyways, tehre is one thing I hate about creating a wizard: So many spells, so little to prepare.
I'm once again late to the party, but is there still space? And if so, what character concepts DO you have?

*
Sir Vorpal - Voran Illezou; a wizard of some stripe.
*
Seraphine_Harmonium - Gotje the Wanderer; an outcaste ranger.
*
Atlantis - Hjarv Fazxel; a spelltheif with a penchant for trap use.
Stargate525 and So-Keher were playing, however, I'm not sure if they are anymore.

Charmande Froisson (http://pifro.com/pro/view.php?id=64), Divine Bard.

We'll be good to go once Sir Vorpal puts up some statistics somewhere.
HELLO????
It seems Monday came and went. I suppose Vorpal--He's not even going by that anymore, is he?--never put up stats. Are we going to actually do this?
