Post by: Túrin on March 07, 2006, 10:31:04 AM
Come all, come all! Included in our facilities here at our new location www.thecbg.org is a fresh and nearly inexhaustible stack of complimentary migratory coconuts WITH paper umbrella's AND, for those who so desire, a ninja laser chef strike team (to make cookies, or otherwise dunh dunh DUNH)!

Please leave your weapons with Isaac so staff can shoot whomever they please randomly and without explanation without having to fear repercussions.

8) Túrin (still among the oldest members of this guild, despite the member number :p )

Hello, then.  I've always wanted to be more active on the WotC homebrew forum, but it seems too overwhelming with all the new requests pouring in.  Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah you'd better get a doctor's receipt before going to see Igorina, you'll need one after the encounter so better go prepared.

Or maybe that wasn't what you meant?

Quote from: Kalos MerMithridates, are you by any chance choosing the name after Eupator?

Probably both him and Ctistes, but mostly Eupator.  Besides just being an interesting character generally, the legends about him make him a compelling villain, too - intelligent, resourceful, able to speak 25 languages and remember everyone's name, immune to poison... I have a ruler in my campaign world loosely based on him.

I've always WANTED to insert someone modeled on Mithridates into my campaign setting.  I've always loved the story of his early life.

I'd hardly call him a 'villain', but then, I've always been partial to the Hellenic (even the very distantly so) over the Roman.

I'm also partial to the Hellenic (and pseudo-Hellenic) successor kingdoms over the Roman.  I guess I didn't mean he was a villain so much as he's a good inspiration for one - and let's face it, interesting villains are often harder to come by than interesting heros in many campaigns.  Sure, killing Roman colonists wholesale probably wasn't a good act, but his actions were hardly abnormal for the period, let alone when one considers the threat of Roman aggression.

But anyway, I'm glad to have someone here who's familiar with the Hellenistic Kingdoms.  I'm sure I'll have questions!

He's just our old oligarch or crazed Planescape guy and classics enthusiast, as he likes to put it himself. Don't mind him.

Oh, and Elven Doritos is just our regular "too much time to post nonsense coming from a somewhat disturbed mind" guy. Don't mind him either.

And CYMRO is just our third Triumvirate member, Lockesian idealist and "changer-of-avatar" (which he does about every other day). Don't mind him.

And then we have natural 20, or "crit" as most people call him (which I sometimes correct to the more accurate "critical threat"), who also tends to post more than he has to say. I could say "don't mind him" but that would mean all in all I have asked you to ignore 80% or more of these forums. So perhaps you should mind all those guys. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

In relation to the post count, the triumvirate has largely fallen in that regard, when I usurped ElDo's post count position.  However, to avoid overwhelming pressure to post nonsense, I am trying quite hard to avoid placing value on the numbers.  As long as we are all recognized as prominent individuals in the community we have here, posting constantly should be irrelevant.

Please, give me a week before the throwdown, I need time to sell tickets!

Ah, they were municipal (sp?) elections so officially there is not one winner, but on average the social democrat parties dealt a heavy blow to the christian-democrat party and the liberalist party (with the former being the opposition, and the latter two being the current government, this is generally interpreted as a sign that the national elections next year will have a similar result, in fact, it is speculated that now for the first time a government might be formed of social-democrat parties only, as in the past they always had to rely on coalitions with the other major ideologies to be able to govern).

The C-D's tend to be a bit rabid in their right wing outlook, do they not?
And the S-D's liberal?
If that is true, then a new European liberal shift could be good for us over here.

Has there been a coup d'etat?
Why wasn't I informed?
Title: the BIG "welcome to new members" thread
Post by: Túrin on March 09, 2006, 05:22:23 PM
It's always a bad idea to inform the current government of the coup d'etat you're planning. I bet real-life uprisings have failed because of this, so don't laugh at me for stating the obvious.

On topic though, I'm not sure I follow. The CDA (as the Dutch C-D's are called) has been focusing on its right wing lately.

The S-D's are not liberalists in the Locke or Mill sense, but I think you mean "left wing" or "progressive" here when you say liberal, right? So yes, the S-D's are left wing, but as far as I know they have not been particularly focusing on their internal left wing lately.

I have also been led to believe that what we consider "conservative" or "right wing" here (such as the liberalist party) is comparable to the American Democrats party, with the Republicans being "even more" right wing.

Why do you think a left wing shift would be good for Americans?

The ultimate battle of the old-fashioned right versus the old-fashioned left.  I can hardly wait.

As for the the Triumvirs,  don't think for a moment that the oligarchy has fallen.  Eldo is simply lurking like a kitten with a sniper rifle, waiting to take out those who get too hubristic.

As for the American Republican Party, they really are nothing more than the religious-traditionalist branch of a woefully 'centered' bipartite party.

Post by: Túrin on March 09, 2006, 05:31:18 PM
I'm afraid I don't follow your prosaic speech here. Do you mean the American Democrat and Republican party are two aspects of the same thing, with the Republicans being the religious-traditionalist aspect? Or did I get you totally wrong here?

QuoteWhy do you think a left wing shift would be good for Americans?

A shift left in Europe will be a harbinger of recovery for us.
Trouble is always lurking in the background for us when Europe gets to uptight and "right".

QuoteAs for the American Republican Party, they really are nothing more than the religious-traditionalist branch of a woefully 'centered' bipartite party.

No arguments here.
The Republocrat monstrosity currently incarnating in our government has Madison and Jefferson spinning in their graves.

I mean that there really is very little DIFFERENCE between the two parties - both are very much influenced by the corporate sphere, and with the exception of heavy influence by the religious right on the Republicans (more prominent in this decade than I remember in the past), they don't take enough difference of opinion with one another on purely ideological grounds.

prosaic?  ME?

Well, I just was wondering whether he was implying that a shift to the left in THIS country would necessarily be a good thing.

Remember, the Old Oligarch is always lurking in the shadows...

Not that I would support the further strengthening of the Republicans.  They are too right-wing on a lot of social issues and not right-wing enough on the issue of the basic form of government...

Oh, and to discuss the Trium's "Fall in Power"...

I've become less active due to a number of other obligations, including my site and schoolwork. I do actively browse these forums and, Turin, I hope you'll find I have fewer "nonsense" posts... ;)

That aside, I've taken a less direct approach of "post any time there's a response", primarily because I feel that with slightly less involvement, the community has grown beyond just a few major posters with some side commentary. We now have a consistantly larger base of regular posters, and that's a good thing-- no three posters dominate the majority of the forums.

As for the Trium and myself falling? I say for the last time: The Triumvirate was never about post count, though we surely had a dominance in that field. It was about three unique individuals who disagreed more often than not and, in my conceited opinion, helped shape these boards to become what they are (and aren't) today. I would also like to point out that I'm the only member of the Trium that doesn't have one of the top 5 post counts.

Just my thoughts.

Hi, I'm Luminous Crayon. I am a crayon in real life. My real name is Forest Green. I was also caught in a tragic radiation accident. Mainly tragic because I didn't get any cool superpowers, just this eerie glow.

Anyway, when I'm not coloring glowing sylvan landscapes, sometimes I play DnD. I wanted to be a little different, so my setting, the Jade Stage, contains no crayons.

Well...  I guess it's time I say hello!  I've been lurking for like six weeks.  I haven't been an active member of any forum since the old glory days of the Thardferr boards...  Although I do lots of lurking.  I'm working on a setting that I promise I'll post eventually.  Some of the settings here are so good and detailed - it's a little bit intimidating.  Not that I'm complaining, I love reading about other worlds because it helps spark my own imagination.  Now where is my coconut-with-paper-umbrella?

If you're going to post anywhere, it might as well be here.  We've got some of the best code on the net and some of the best members to boot.

Hello!

New member here, though people who hang out on some other gaming forums (such as ENWorld or RPGNet) might remember me.

The main reason why I have joined this forum is because I've got a pet worldbuilding project of my own (with its own thread  over here (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?6813)), and I'd like to discuss some specific aspects of the setting and get some feedback now and then.

Been world building for a long time, but in the end I always end up scrapping everything, taking the aspects I like and reimagining it all. At this moment, I'm just after the scrapping aspect, a few days into the reimagining it all part.

Welcome to the CBG!

I myself have ended up using the same process with my main campaign world.  Often, only by making "mistakes" in anything (especially a creative project like campaign design) can you determine what is really best.

He would be more than just a Paladin. Read futher about Malagigi and you'll find out why.

Ã¢,¬Å"All stood for a while in silence, lost in the delight of looking at her. The fiery youth Ferrau could hardly restrain himself from seizing her from the giants and carrying he away; Rinaldo turned as red as fire, while Malagigi, who had discovered by his art that the stranger was not speaking the truth, muttered softly, as he looked at her, â,¬ËExquisite false creature! I will play thee such a trick for this, as will leave thee no cause to boast of thy visitâ,¬,,¢Ã¢,¬Â
"He hastened to the appointed spot, and there found the prince and his sister in a beautiful pavilion, where lay asleep, while the the four giants kept watch. Malagigi took his book and cast a spell out of it, and immediately the four giants fell into a deep sleep. Drawing his sword (for he was a belted knight), he softly approached the young lady, intending to despatch her at once: but, seeing her so lovely, he paused for a moment, thinking there was no need of hurry, as he believed his spell was upon her, and she could not wake."

Ã¢,¬Å"â,¬ËSomething is going on wrong, and looks very black,â,¬,,¢ thought Malagigi, the good wizard; â,¬ËRinaldo is not here, and it is indispensably necessary that he should be. I must find out where he is, and Ricciardetto too, and send for them with all speed.â,¬,,¢Ã¢,¬Â
Ã¢,¬Å"Malagigi called up by his art a wise, terrible and cruel spirit, named Ashtaroth. â,¬ËTell me, and tell me truly, of Rinaldo,â,¬,,¢ said Malagigi to the spirit. The demon looked hard at the paladin, and said nothing. His aspect was clouded and violent.â,¬Â
Ã¢,¬Å"The enchanter, with an aspect still cloudier, bade Ashtaroth lay down that look, and made signs as if he would resort to angrier compulsion; and the devil, alarmed, loosened his tongue, and said, â,¬ËYou have not told me what you desire of Rinaldo.â,¬,,¢Ã¢,¬Â

To this day I remain proud in knowing that I cannot read a word you said, save leet, as everybody can typically pick that one out.

i know the first line, and through proccess of logical deduction, i feel safe in assuming the word before "leet" is "i'm" (or, at least, something to that affect; it could be "i am"), but other then that...

yea, pretty much looks like a monkey banging on the keyboard to me.

Hello!
(And Turin, your skill ranks in speak language are most impressive.)

Thanks! :)

Though you got it wrong: my ranks in read language might be good enough, but my speak language is lacking. I could not myself create a single line of intelligible 13375|*34|<

As is the case with most of my other languages.

A big welcome to Fullmetal_Alchemist!  Your cabbage stew has just finished, and if you'll head out onto the CBG sundeck, you'll find a comfortable chair and coconut margarita await you.  All this can be yours for just one immortal soul! (kidding!)and a readiness to have fun and visit often(not kidding!).

So sit down, have fun, and maybe even write up a post in the Rogues' Gallery (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4.post) to let us know a little more about you.

Welcome to the Guild!

P.S. Welcome to all new members...I forgot all about this thread. Do we still serve drinks with umbrellas? How's Igor been anyway?

Woah, i just realised that even though i believe i have posted in both for other reasons, i never actually introduced myself on either this or the rogues gallery thread.

So anyways,  Word up y'all! !turtle

and some small turtles for good measure.  !turtle  !turtle  !turtle

(okay, so i'm about a year late. so what.)
(wow, a year)
(as one of the early members i gotta say how awesome it's been to watch this place grow from it's not-so-humble beginings as just a thread on the WotC boards)
(congrats to everyone yo!)

Obviously, that's what I meant. I read it right but typed it wrong. :P

I believe Igor has been taking care of all duties while we weren't paying attention to this thread. By which I mean to say, he ate all the paper umbrellas.

I bear a message from the Galactus of the CBG, for I am his Silver Surfer, as I have recently been informed.

The Great Elven Doritos sends his greetings, and welcomes all new members to the CBG.  We offer complementary coconut margaritas to all new members, although Igor the butler has eaten all the little umbrellas, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait until we get our next shipment.  I see most of you have already found the Rogue's Gallery (http://thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4.0), and gotten right into posting your campaigns.  If you have any questions, just ask in the tavern on the main page, post a thread in The Cogs (http://thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewforum.php?11), or PM a senior member, such as Elven Doritos or myself for help.

Welcome specifically to Yairiny, Le Narcissique, and Gwenfloor.

That is all, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I could've certainly said the above myself.

But I love envisioning a d20 on this guy's head too much:

Hey, I completely missed this thread.  I've already posted in Team Discovery Channel's game, but I shall now say hi here.

Hi!!  I'm new!!  And I don't speak or read leet!!

Hi! Good to have you here!

*tunes in New Member Welcoming Song*

And thanks for letting us know you don't read leet. It's always good to know that you can speak about someone in a way they won't themselves understand. ;)

j/k of course.
