Well, Issue 7 is about to be wrapped up, so I figure it's time to start discussing what we can do for issue 8. Let's talk themes, and then we'll get a few article ideas going. Here are a few themes (both that I've thought of, and some that were listed last time that we didn't use):
Undeath.
Fey.
Riddles.
Savage Races.
Immortal Races.
Law and Chaos.
Seafaring.
Talk!

You're list is awesome!
I agree with the sea god. Seafaring got enough of a request last time we asked that it seems like we'd want to pick it this time.
And thanks, Ish. I knew there was something that needed doing that I spaced out. ;)
Hmmmm, that's an interesting theme. I can support that. But wow, we could really get creative and do a lot with it. How many articles are you going to write, Poseidon, 8 or 9 or so?
Write as many as you can! If we can't fit them this issue, we'll get them in another one. However, I do agree, Seafaring would make a great issue. So are we looking at volunteered articles from Poseidon and Jharviss? ;)
Oh! Oh! I've got one! (Yay, Angel's finally gonna write an article!)
It'll be something on the Abyssian Faerie, a shamed (or perhaps betrayed) fey caste that was thrown to the crushing deeps where no Sidhe magic can be worked. Stripped or their glamours, their forms reveal the true grotesquery at the heart of every fey.
I haven't touched my D&D books for a while now, but I think it's about time I brushed the dust off.
(I figured this article would be a great way to combine Fey, Undeath and Seafaring in one)
Excellent SA, I can't wait to see what you have!

*GULP* Mmmmmmmeeee? Article(s)? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I read, me not write. Me write poorly. Me no no good enlgish. *hides under a rock at the bottom of the ocean*

Quote from: messageI have hidden myself away do not come looking for me. I have sent this message back to the surface world to give a few ideas for articles.
Ideas:
Encounters on the High Sea - Making ship travel more than an instant trip from city A to city B.
World Design: What part does the world's ocean play?
Creatures of the Deep - A new ocean going monster.
Book Review: Stormwrack
I'm sure more ideas will pop into my head (they always do). I will "*try*" to do at least one of these ideas. (Either 1 or 2 because they are very similar). I would encourage any one that thinks they can write any of these articles to do so. I am in a writing rut right now (as anyone that has read my last thread can see), so I will try, but cannot promise, to write an article for a seafaring guide.
Well, my fey article should include at least two monsters.
Also, if I get on a roll, I might do an article on Oceanic Rituals (magical stuff anyone can do while out on the open waters).
Schweet! That would be great SA.
* By the way, what does your current name (Yaji Ash-Shuthath) mean? I know it's from the Cthulhu stuff, but I couldn't find if there was any sort of translation or definition of?
It's believed to be what Yog-Shoggoth's name was derived from. It means "there is no peace at the gates".
I'm thinking about contributing, and I'd probably do Uncommon Evil again...I know you shouldn't get known for one thing, but its fun being evil. :demon:
I was thinking only two villains this time (~3K words), and I'd keep with the theme of seafaring:
a dolphin turned to the dark side
and a half bronze dragon pirate
Sounds pretty awesome Kesh, I'll be bringing this topic over to PS pretty soon too!
SA and Poseidon, just wanted to find out for sure if you guys would be contributing to this? If so, could you PM me some specifics? I'm about to draw up some requests for particular articles, and want to make sure I don't request something you guys are already doing. That goes for anyone else here as well!
I'm thinking about contributing, if that's alright. At the very least I could get in some practice so that I can eventually contribute.
Article Ideas:
Encounters and Adventures on the high seas.
Fantasy Naval Warfare Tactics
That's great! I always am glad to see new members jumping right in and contributing. :)
Thanks for offering Ivar! Either of those topics would make for great seafaring articles. If you haven't picked a favorite yet, the "Encounters and Adventures on the High Seas" jumped out at me - I could imagine a few different scenarios being described with different villains (or even non-villains - who says an encounter has to end in bloodshed?) in different oceanic locales.
with Encounters and Adventures on te high see, why dont you do an encounter with undead that are manning aa ship and being controlled by an evil necromancer (that would probably be a good adventure hook where it leads to the base for a cabal of evil pirating necromancers of course). But if that sounds good, i wont be writing it. [blockquote Poseidon]*GULP* Mmmmmmmeeee? Article(s)? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I read, me not write. Me write poorly. Me no no good enlgish.......[/blockquote] as is me. i not write. bad at writing well for stuff like that.
Okay, so far for this upcoming issue, we seem to have a few good potentials here:
Ivar: Either "Encounters and Adventures on the High Seas" or "Fantasy Naval Warfare Tactics"
KeshFerrar: "Uncommon Evil of the SEA"
Salacious Angel: (to quote) "It'll be something on the Abyssian Faerie, a shamed (or perhaps betrayed) fey caste that was thrown to the crushing deeps where no Sidhe magic can be worked. Stripped or their glamours, their forms reveal the true grotesquery at the heart of every fey" as well as (possibly), "Oceanic Rituals"
Possibly something from Poseidon?
Guys, this is an excellent start to a SeaFaring issue of the Guide. I believe we could make a great issue with this, but if anyone else wants to get on the action, now's the time!
Quote from: IshmaylPossibly something from Poseidon?
When is the deadline? If it is anytime soon, then I won't have anything. Every time I try to wright something my mind goes blank.
Well, our deadlines in the past have been pretty arbitrary. I think the best course - and I'll let Raelifin come in here and tell me I'm wrong if I am - would be to not apply a deadline until we get a few articles in, which is what we basically did last issue. Otherwise, come XX/XX/2007, we will have only 2 articles, and neither of them will deal with the theme. So right now, we'll just say we're shooting for a late October release, with a relatively mid-October deadline.
I couldn't decide which topic I wanted to write on, so I'm going to combine them!
I'm going to do an "Encounters and Adventures on the High Sea" article, and within the article describe various naval tactics that a group in one of the encounters use!
Excellent Ivar! Can't wait to see the result.
I guess I don't have an excuse anymore, so expect part 5(?) of Border Patrol.
Woot!
Any news on articles guys? I've got contact with an artist for the cover, as well as a couple potential artists for interior art, and we'd like to make art based on articles.
Don't forget Ish, that we're featuring contest winners next issue. There are some great scenes we could use some art for in those alone.
OH, great point Rael. I'm going to reread the City of Twilight Splendor and go over a few good scenes with you.
Uhg, speaking of which, I'm having a very hard time writing anything for that. LC may just win by default... :(
Well, I'm relatively sure Ivar is going to submit, I hope some others do too :(
[/thread derailment]
I'm going to try to submit something for the contest if I have time. I have a decent idea for it, but I think the CBG Guide article that I want to write will take precedence.
Ok, I've got the rough draft of my article done. Who do I send it to? Ishmael?
Do you guys edit it and revise it, or can i post it for review?
Quote from: IvarWho do I send it to? Ishmael?
Call me Ishma
yl.
And you can send me the rough draft, but we actually prefer you to do revisions, or find someone to help you with it, and then we'll do a bit of editing afterwards.
Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you with a half-ton silverback gorilla.
I'll do some proofing, etc. and send it over tomorrow.
oh, if it's that Ishmael you were confusing me with, then I forgive you anyway.
I want to let everyone know we've received our first Issue 8 article, called "Encounters on the High Seas," from Ivar, who has just jumped right in here at the CBG. I look forward to reading the other articles coming this way.
So far, only Ivar has submitted; I would just like to know if anyone else will be submitting, since so many people seemed interested at first! :) It's looking to be a very promising issue if people get involved.
I'll have an interview to submit before the end of the month. Not sure what issue it will be in, but it's coming!
Túrin
Uncommon EVIL is done and submitted!
4300 words; three new villains to haunt and plague your campaigns!
I just wanted to say that the next issue (Summer 2008) of Fantaseum: The Journal of the Creative Community Alliance will feature the Seafaring theme we original planned for the next issue of the Guide, so if any of you cats have any oceanic adventures, sea-dwelling races, or undersea shrines you've been holding onto, now's the time to get them out there? Don't make me start calling in favors! ;)
This new mag, are you looking for articles or is it a collection of creative works?
Yes! Articles are ALWAYS welcome! It will have some elements of a collection of various things from each of the sites, but please write articles if you can. :) What do you have in mind?

If you use Ivar's article you, then you already have suggestion number 1.
Yeah, and we have #3 as well. Salacious Angel originally mentioned doing a deepwater fey of some sort, maybe he'll show up with that as well.
*shows up*
Yah-huh. 'cept I sold my d20 books (gaspness!) as a symbolic refusal to write any crunch. Which basically means... no crunch.
Descriptions and fluff work just as well ;) Good to see you back around
Yeah. Very briefly (very, very briefly) I actually had a life. Now that that's gone I'm back to what I know and love!
And seeing as my photoshop skills are improving I might also do a sea chart.
Excellent! Looking forward to it.
I stickied and renamed this, to make it more relevant and easy to find.
Did this project end? I don't recall seeing a new one in a while.
I never heard of it officially ending. I think it just...stopped.
I'm wondering how much time is left. I could contribute an article on water hazards in the dungeon, complete with alternate rules for drowning (and maybe a few other things). I could throw in a sample dungeon, if someone else is willing to help with the map. Maybe some custom monsters to go with it.
Sorry guys, project died due to lack of participation - we may revive something similar eventually, but not soon.
I know this is a dead duck, but if it ever gets revived, I have an idea for an ongoing feature. I might have to work up my word count a bit, though.
Hey Ish, that workshop I was talking about with you a while back... maybe that could be what the journal regularly consists of, only expand it to maps and character creation and system-based work and such?
