Title: [Event] [WTF] LC and Eclipse Review Everything!
Post by: Lmns Crn on November 01, 2007, 01:40:38 PM
No, seriously. I make enough noise about community participation, that it's time for me to put my money where my mouth is (not literally.) I'm going to do some reviews, and you are going to help me. Here's how!

[note=why I am doing this]Basically, I haven't done any reviews in a long time, and it makes me sad to think about that. I don't know what to start with next, so I thought I'd call upon the collective wisdom of this community.

Also, it gets you guys to read some stuff as well, since you have to tell me about each others' worlds instead of your own. So, I am hoping to start some kind of a chain reaction here or something. Mwahaha, my nefarious scheme![/note]Part 1: the choosening
You select a setting that you think is the awesomest. There are one and a half rules about what you can choose, here-- it should be...
...somebody else's work (not your own. We all pimp our own worlds here all the time anyway. This is your chance to give somebody else the recognition you've been meaning to make mention of!)
...something I haven't reviewed before (this is the "half rule", since I'll take a look at things I've reviewed in the past, but I'll probably get to the new-to-me settings first)

Part 2: the describening
You tell me, in three sentences or less, why my life will always be dull and incomplete until I read the setting of your choice. Post your description in this thread (links would also be nice, but I can find them on my own.) Based on your descriptions, I will choose what to review first.

Part 3: the reckoning
LC reviews stuff and posts about his progress in this thread. I will try to get to as many settings as I can (although I can make no promises about how fast I get to them all), and to give each one a very fair and thorough look, with helpful feedback.

Part 4: the repeat-steps-one-through-three-ening
We, uh, do it over again!

So, think about your most favoritest worlds, or the new ones that I may have missed, or the most cleverly-imagined and creatively-written whatsits, and start me a list of things to look at! When you post here, I get inspired, your favorite writer gets a warm fuzzy feeling (and later, a review from me), and you get a deep and abiding feeling of satisfaction at having done a good deed. So everybody wins!

Uh... so... get going :yumm:

I don't have a world to submit yet, (but I will soon) but I figure I'd show some solidarity with LC, and also review settings with the same criteria (if you want, LC, I'll make a separate thread for my reviews.

w00t! And, if one of us submits a setting, we'll both review it. It'll be wicked good!

Aveyevnon.

Because despite its slightly-cliched beginnings, it has now flourished and become something truly its own. It's also not your standard medieval-europe world, it's very steampunk-renaissance, which is pretty durn awesome. Also dwarves CONTROL THE WORLD!

Christmas, I go away for 20 hours, and all this comes up?  No more business trips for me...

Yes, review Aveyevnon first.  I have, and I think it is great.  Do New Edom second, becasue it also rocks incontrovertably.

Then do Celtricia, because it will hurt your head more than the others, and you might stop after reviewing it and that would not be good.  It has 2 threads now, to be less overwhelming,  setting (http://thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?39571.last) and  crunch (http://thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?39632).  It needs reviews because the system was written for the game (which I have recently learned drives some people away, and here I thought it was a tremendous plus) and becasue it is a 25 year old setting that is still being played and I ask for reviews for the sake of my sets of players.  I'm a little too close after all this time.

Because I knew when I saw this that it was only a matter of time before someone missed it:

Alright then, I say review Celtrica. I'm probably going to tonight, and frankly it looks quite awesome. The magic system is refreshing, and the age of the setting adds significantly to it's quality. (Not that I have read it at time of posting.)

And the real reason: I'd like to see what you have to say about it. :)

Love to pretend that I mentioned the other two on purpose, and then my own...but EM has it right.  Jumped  onto this thread and skimmed the post...my bad.
Someone has to keep me honest.

Dude, system buff speaking. I personally prefer that a system (or a few variant rules) be present. Seems like you did a lot of work on yours so far.

I've got the weekend off (finally!) and have finished some of that stuff I was supposed to do... and am stuck with hella writers block. So expect some flurries of posts and I'll be sure to suggest a setting later.

Deismaar. It's a whole lot more than I can tackle in one weekend but is totally awesome from what little I've seen. We need... like... division of labor on this thing.

I know I can't nominate my own, but I might feel a little more inspired to put more work into Tera, if I got some reviews telling me what's good, what's bad, and what's ugly about it.  I don't think either of the title reviewers have said anything on it yet.

I am nominating ssvegeta's Soullos (http://thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?39640).  First of all, the races are nicely thought out, and the drow have a good, original mythology that differentiates themselves from standard drow.  Secondly, it's a very well-detailed world (though he doesn't have most of it on the site yet, as he's in the midst of transferring from WotC).  Thirdly, I spent a good, long time convincing him to come over here, and he finally did, and no one looked over his setting.  So yeah, there's my nomination :)

I'll second the Sollous nomination. I personally like a good Ethocentric setting with this much originality and power behind it.

Well, since it has a dual nomination, it's time for me to start crackin on this whole "review everything" thing and actually, well, review things. soullos is first on my list: to see my list, look at my first post on this thread (when I stop feeling lazy)

Or, at least, I will review as soon as my Internet stops hating me.
