Title: Farewell, and May Good Fortunes Be Upon Thee.
Post by: Elven Doritos on April 17, 2006, 12:50:48 AM
Alas, 78 days is far too short to spend among such excellent and admirable world-builders. I don't have of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I must be going now.

I've enjoyed my time with this community, I really have. There were ups and downs (mostly the former, thankfully, not the latter), and I appreciate all the feedback I've been getting on my ongoing projects.

My focus has been split. I haven't been developing my projects at all, I've been padding them.

I have nothing planned for the Play by Post thread. I apologize to my players for leading them on, and I sincerely apologize for the untimely collapse that will follow.

I currently have plans to lock all of my active threads for feedback, primarily because I am no longer going to be reading these forums for it. If you have anything you would like to say to me about my work, I reccommend contacting me through any of the channels available through my profile or my website.

Some of you may be confused by my sudden disappearance, and some may be angry. Most of you will likely not care one way or the other.

The truth is, I haven't truly been here for a while, at least not in spirit. I've been mindlessly refreshing the main page and clicking on links, only to click off and repeat the cycle. I haven't contributed to someone else's work, and I've merely been toting my own productions and not accepting criticisms. My presence has been and continues to be a hinderance on the atmosphere that the boards are attempting to acheive.

There isn't any persuading me on this matter; my mind is set.

I'm truely sorry to read this. I didn't know you very well personally: All I knew of you, I knew of through your reputation and your work.

Your reputation spoke admirably of you, as a creative and talented individual who was easygoing and fun to communicate with. As for your work...your work spoke surpassingly of you. Just earlier today, I was reading your space setting, and found myself thinking: "here's someone doing something I tried two years ago, and is pulling it off far better than I could have imagined doing so."

I think the CBG as a whole takes a great blow tonight. Not only do we loose a valued and talented member, we are loosing one of the pillars of the community, one of the greats. I do not think your presence is a hinderance by any means: quite the contrary, i thinkit is a boon.

I wish you would not do anything so permanent. I wish I could persuade you otherwise. I cannot do so: as you said, your mind is set. That being the case, I wish you the best in whatever endevors you undertake in the future, and should your mind ever change, I hope your fingers will lead you back to us.

Sometimes, when I'm bored, I look out into the world. I look at my T.V. (which is usually on) and realize I'm not doing anything contributitive.

Sometimes, things feel hopeless. I won't go into too personally but I'll tell you that I was on the verge of committing a 'kind' of suicide. A mental suicide if you will. I almost decided that I wanted to never contribute or try at anything and live out a normal life.

I'm not even sure if you feel like this, but what I gather from the post, this is probably what you are feeling. It hurts to know that sometimes you can't do anything at all. Over the last year, I've been in a lull. I couldn't go do things I could normally do because I had no passion or drive to do them. When I finally realized that I couldn't help every person I meet and I can't help myself sometimes.

Just don't give into this sort of depression. Keep going, and although it may not seem like you are going anywhere, go the distance anyway. You'll be surprised where you end up.

Just don't give up on this anti-normal life. Keep going.

\\

I'm glad you were here and you're presence will be well missed.

Seriosuly,
Wixman (Joshua)

I'm sorry to hear this ElDo.  I hope that it's not a permanent thing, and please PM me and let me know if there's anything I can do.

Actually I understand when things like this happen. I used to be a big time MTG fan, and a regular poster at various boards such as the Manadrain and Starcitygames. After a while I felt like the game was getting a little dry, and while I had many friends on the boards, I felt like I was just dead weight, because my actual contributions were few and far between.

I continued to occasionally post on theory, critique various deck builds, and my understanding of the mechanical fundimentals remained sound, but I sold my collection, and hardly ever played anymore.

Most of my posts (in the last few months I was still actively involved in the MTG world) were rehashes of things I had already said a dozen times before, or general community based comments like contratulations, birthday wishes, and random thoughts on unrelated topics.

If this is where Doritos finds himself, I completely understand. When you once again find that you have the time, motivation, and inclination to contribute in a way that lives up to your own standards, come on back and post again. Just keep in mind that as a community we welcome your contributions (in any form), and you should still at least stop by from time to time, to say hi, and let us know what's going on.

I'm sure you'll be back, D&D players never really quit, and you can expect a warm welcome whenever you choose to return.

I think Xathan worded it well. This is a sad day for the CBG, to see one of its earliest and most active members go.

Fare thee well!

I already said my 'good-byes' and 'farewells', so I'll keep this short and sweet:

Gonna miss you, man.

I'm back, to a degree. My involvement won't be regular and I'll mostly be concerned with RV: Project 1301.

Dortios can't resist the lure of campaign building for long! Welcome back (kind of); does this mean I can't use "PANTZ!" as my catch phrase anymore?

You are the keeper of "PANTZ!". I cannot take that from ye.
