Title: What's up with Cebegia?
Post by: Soup Nazi on April 17, 2006, 04:01:54 PM
Are we stuck? What's the next step? Who's still interested?

I was just starting to get into this project when it seemed to drop dead. I hope it doesn't get abandoned, because some the concepts so far had some real promise.

So fellow world builders, where do we go from here?

personally,  i feel that we are at a 'crunch' stage to some degree.
its easy to throw out random ideas, but we need to start delving into specifics.

I think we all have a pretty good idea of what the world is like.
Now we need to start fleshing it out, and become more specific.

I'm still waiting for an "Official stuff" thread by Turin. I don't have tons of time to browse, so seeing what is up so far can help a lot.

I've kind of been waiting for this too. But when you think about it, the only offical stuff so far is the core ethos. We've got tons of ideas, but nothing actually voted in or out.

Ishy was interested in working on the Volcano Totem/Aztec dwarves

I'm interested in working on the imperial paladins or tattooed wizards, but we've got no approval for a go ahead. I'd also like to work with the lost psionic totem, and the cults that still worship it. Speaking personally, I don't plan on writing something that isn't going to make the cut...seems like a waste of time.

Turin? Ishy? What next?

This may be a lot of people's problem.

I don't think we need to worry about voting when it comes to details.

If someone spends a crap load of time developing a culture, it would be rude to 'vote' it out.

We already know that we want to have lots of diff societies,  pantheons, etc.   Its probably in our best interest to start assigning stuff (rather, people volunteering).
Then, once we have a LOT of information, we can see what doesn't fit together, and hopefully just make minor changes.

i dunno.

I have to agree with daggerhart on this.  I'm slowly (but surely) working on my dwarven Aztec culture.  I think something that would be extremely useful would be to hand-draw a map or 2 for some ideas and geographical inspiration.  I'll come up with a few ideas, and you guys do the same, and we can post them in the "Discussion: Geography" section.  Maps always help me think better :)

i've not been posting too much cuz my hands feel like they've been run over, like 3 times, with a truck, filled with hammers. something like that.

I'd say that if you post an idea for a city-state/totem/imperial saint/imperial city/organization, and at least one other person thinks it's cool, consider it in. I don't actually have the AUTHORITY to say that, but it seems like a good idea. keeping things kinda vague, or understanding that very specific things might get edits is also a good idea?

Well then...I guess I'm going to write about paladins. I'll post it tomorrow. The difference is (for me at least), I write things quickly, and in quantity. I don't want to get carried away, and write half the setting.

I think that's a good idea, nasty.  I'm a little slower, but once I get hte dwarves done (I'm going on about 2-pages, edited), I'll probably work on some geography issues and ideas.

The problem with putting up a compilation is that everything we have decided on so far is the core ethos statement (which is "compiled" in the stickied Welcome thread, where any other vote results will be added).

I hardly think the project is dropping dead, but we're inevitably going to have to lower our pace at one point.

I also think that at this point it might be interesting to consider what exactly we want. This might be a good use for this thread: to discuss how far we want to go. Do we want to detail each nation? How many pages should each get? Etc. As soon as we know what we want in those areas, we can start looking for volunteers to write it up in detail.

As others suggested above, it would hardly seem a good idea to have a vote about whether or not a detailed description someone writes for the setting is in or out, unless considerable opposition to it rises.

One fairly easy way to keep this going is, IMO, to make sure there are always one or two things up for voting. This ensures decisions are still being made, AND people will be tempted to think about the setting more easily than with numerous discussion threads.

I think we're progressing slowly but steadily as it is, so let's not make too big a deal out of this. Nevertheless, I would like to discuss, as I said, how far we are willing to go. How much of history do we want to write up? How much of geography? How about mythology?

Turin do you mind if I update the sticky this afternoon and highlight some of the key ideas of Cebegia? I don't want to step on anybodies toes, but I do want to resurrect Cebegia.

I don't however want to start writing more just yet. I don't want the community world to turn into NastyNate world. You seem rather busy, but I don't mind kicking things up a notch if it helps.

Go right ahead. Maybe we should start working with a roll call similar to what they do at giantitp.com?

What's this infamous roll call you speak of?  :ball:
