Tend to make evocative statements that lead you to open the thread based on a desire to complete the idea.
What? :P
When I first read "ellipses," my brain somehow thought "hyphens." So I promptly opened the thread, expecting to see a conversation about fantasy naming conventions. Ironically, I didn't even notice the ellipses in the thread title until after I read the first post.

Elven magic, mate.
I was wondering what words' spelling included ellipsis. I mean, that didn't make any sense.

Y'know, I think you might be right- it does... n't ;)
Three or four on the ellipse...? I think... three when mid-sentence. Four when its at the end.... No space beforehand, either. Punctuation marks are part of the four and commas are never needed. Sorry, I think about this too much.

I think we should also point out that elipses are a vital part of any superheroes vocabulary:
"Must... strain... to get... words... out... of my mouth... can't... lift... this... pencil..."
And also in many early video games. What video game hero could get by without an ellipsis at least once per scene...?
Not ... to mention ... Captain ... ... ... Kirk!
But even more important are colons: They make titles work.
All the best titles are done with colons. The ellipsis may draw you in, but the colon says "this is important, informed, and authoritative," and tells you what the heck you're reading anyway. That's the final step for choosing a graduate (or otherwise) thesis: pick an authoritative title with a colon.
Compare:
By My Sword and Honor (what the hell is this supposed to be about?)
A Knight's Poem (yes, generic title #34 really draws you in...)
By My Sword and Honor: A Knight's Poem (hell yeah son, let's read some goddamn chivalric poetry)

You... stole the...
words... right out of my... mouth...! :P
