I play it. I love it. I'm not too shabby with it. Why do you ask?

I've look at it twice by now, and I can't get past the part where they tell you how initiative is done.  That's just way too many rules for me.

The Hero system is rewarding if you can wade through the accounting. I can't imagine how to successfully tutor on a forum site but try a few exercises first.  Make a Fireball spell.  Figure out the details of it first.  And I mean really get into it like an IRS lawyer digging deep and see what power definitions fit.  Then get into the modification details.  Ranged, area effect, energy, killing damage, etc..  There is no right or wrong here, just process practice.  Then, make a Sword.  Focus, killing damage etc..  See what the differences are, but see what the similarities are too.  Both of these things are based on the Killing Attack power, one ranged and one not.  The details are what make them what they are but at core, they are the same thing.  Really look at and understand how the elements come together to define an item or effect.  The Advantages and Drawbacks are what give 'feel' to what you create.  The incredible detail you can sink into a power and shape it is offset by the arcanum needed to decipher it.  Post them if you like.
Deal with character creation later as it's much easier.
