[note]I had a bit of a hard time deciding if this should go here or in the Den, so if a mod wants to, a move is fine by me.[/note]
Okay, I'm kind of curious what people would choose for their "fantasy" gaming group. By "fantasy", in this case, I'm not referring to the genre of the game you're playing (although that's an option), but instead to what you would fantasize about. If you could choose any celebrities in your gaming group, who would they be? What would their characters be? Who would GM?
Keep in mind, this is more to spark discussion then to be any definitive list, so feel free to leave incomplete lists. You may end up agreeing with a choice made after you made your first round of mentions.
To start things off, here's a small selection of celebrities I'd game with:
Neil Gaiman: This dude would be an incredible DM. His stories, I think, are weaved with such wonderful precision, and he has an almost uncanny sense of setting. Also, his supporting characters tend to be loaded with verisimilitude ("uhmm.... a leprechaun wants to fight me? why, exactly?" "because it's good fun, of course. Why not?")
David Bowie: Seriously, could you picture this guy playing an elf character? Maybe a bard? I mean, he practically oozes aristocratic arrogance.
James Earl Jones: Another pick for DM. I don't know how good his stories would be, but I don't think I'd really care too much. With his voice, he could probably make the simplest of hack-n-slash dungeon crawls exciting; "you walk into a large cavern passageway..."
Anybody else? Come on, you know you've thought of stuff like this before!
This might end up being a little weird.
Frank Herbert would be my DM. I would also like DMing, since I find it such a joy to DM with an amazing group of players, but I would still love to play in a D&D game by Frank Herbert. Of course, I would hope it wouldn't be a very core game.
*
Barack Obama playing a paladin. He might multiclass as a wizard, just for fun.
* I would want
Napoleon Bonaparte. I wouldn't put him as a cleric (at the first possible sign of defeat, he's run away!), so maybe a bard or rogue. Yes, I could see him playing quite the duplicitous scoundrel.
*
Tenzin Gyatso, the current Dalai Lama. This guy would make a great cleric. Nobody would ever die.
Of course, so far it seems that the only times the group would ever fight would be when Napoleon gets them in trouble. Yes, I could see Napoleon getting the Dalai Lama and Barack Obama in quite some scandals. So let's throw in some random fun people:
*
Serj Tankian, the lead singer from System of a Down. This guy's bard would be hardcore, and you would never again think of the bard as a sissy class. He would be walking around with an iron lute that summons lightning. I could see it.
*
Stephen King. Sorcerer, druid, something along those lines. Don't you just think he'd make an interesting character and be a marvelous roleplayer?
*
James Clavelle, the historical fiction writer, famous for Shogun. Let's put this guy with the fighter or ranger. [/list]
Okay, so my list is long. I want a lot of players, and why shouldn't I? The dream cast would be able to deal with several players. I always have six players. They could deal with it.
I could very easily see King playing an evil druid, slowly twisting Nature to his own will. A Pally slowly going insane and fated to fall (driving him, of course, even more crazy) would be another good fit for him.
Why not have Trent Reznor as a bard? Alice Cooper? Gene Simmons? I could see all of those as fun options...
After Neil (Gaiman) and Alice (Cooper) made "Last Temptation", I will always see Cooper as a beguiler.
But hey, what about our fighter, Vin Diesel? May not be one for talking, but hey, he gets the job done.
Needs more Stephen Colbert, as the quick-witted and sharp-tongued rogue.
I'd like to DM a group consisting of four of Steven Colbert, David Letterman, Jim Carey, The Phantom Renegade, Vin Diesel, Sean Connery, Colin Mockery, Peter Mansbridge, Justin Timberlake, and a Sailor Senshi.
Alternatively, I'd DM an all elf game for The Beatles or Metalica, and put them thru "Eye if the Beholder".
In any case, I'd tell them all ahead of time they'd need a wizard and at least one character that can use the all important Wand o'Cure Lite Wounds.
I was considering Vin Diesel. I don't know. I want my players to be really sharp and witty (if you can't tell by my roster). I probably underestimate Vin Diesel. I mean, he is a long-time player of D&D after all.
On that note, why not have the Rock play a monk? That'd be hilarious.
Stephen Colbert -- that one is genius. I would have him, yes I would.
Gary Gygax
I was wondering how long we would go without seeing that one.
But I'm not gonna lie -- I'd rather have Monte Cook. I think Monte would be the better roleplayer, after watching his recent stuff.
Terry Pratchett as DM. Serious.

I'm curious, why Timberlake?
Does anybody else think E. A. Poe would make a cool sorceror?
I would have mentioned Oscar Wilde, but for the life of me I have no idea what he'd play.
I think bard, but could easily be an enchanter sorc, or something.
Bram Stoker would be an interesting wizard/Dread Necro.
ooh, Jules Verne as a gnome!
Salvador Dali as DM
Preferably with some cthulu campaign or other equally whacked out ****, though in Dali's case a textbook Forgotten Realms dungeon crawl would probably turn into whacked out ****.

He'd probably spend hours just describing the scenery.
"So one wall is made out of inverted gothic arches filled with twisted images of dying illithids..."

The 87th wall is in a similar S-curve as the 45th, but it's twice as long, and one end is twice as tall as the other....
I'd have Stephen Sondheim DM, if for no other reason than he'd be sure to provide the most awesome background music EVER!
