Because of the ToB's likeness to spellcasting, there should be epic maneuvers, with seeds based on different schools, like in the Epic Level Handbook For those of you who don't know, Tome of Battle: Nine Swords is a melee fix that presents three base classes who gain martial maneuvers as they level. These maneuvers are like a wizard's spells. Anywho, I propose we develop those epic maneiver seeds and creation in this thread. Maybe instead of being cast based on your spellcraft skill, it could be based on the main skill of the discipline, such as Jump for Tiger Claw or Tumble for Desert Flame. And maybe a seed for the White Raven discipline would go something like this: Seed: Aid. Effect: Give a +_ morale boost on _ of these: WIll saves, Fortitude saves, Reflex Saves, Fear saves, or Attack rolls; to your allies within 8 times _ feet. THis effect lasts for _*5 rounds, where _ is how much you beat the DC by.
I completely disagree with the sentiment that there should be maneuvers based appon a seeding system akin to epic level spellcasting presented in ELH. There are literally thousands of threads and discussions on the balance issues of that system all over the internetz that have all ended in either bannings, purges, epic level deletions, mass suicide, or sensible people coming to the conclusion that epic is best played within three paragraphs that can be summed with "The End".
I've forgotten the citation, but 4chan removed it's RPG section due to Epic Failure Handbook, Book of Vile Body Piercings, and BoEF.
If you want to keep the game going longer, may I suggest arbitrary level loss?
"Wow. You looked drained."
"I met a life sucking vampire queen at the castle last night."
"I see you've met my mother in law."
edit-> Apparently 4chan does have an RPG section now. Must be a recent re-addition.
I think it would be completely reasonable, especially compared to the madly overpowered system that is spellcasting.
Overpowered is an understatement. Every character with Epic Spell is wielding the same arbitrarium stick as the DM, and you might as well just forgo the math, leave the books on the shelf and just play Magical Tea Party.
Epic Level, as defined in ELH is unreasonable, and Epic Maneuver would be have to be just as unreasonable to be balanced.
Not to dissuade you from from creating adventures of epic heroism, just informing you that the game as designed now doesn't actually work at that level the way it was intended.
I realize that the entire ELH is broken. I do enjoy creating overly powerful abilities of awesome coolness. Maybe I shall keep it to myself, to dissuade others from creating, say, and overbalancing of another branch of classes to furhter break Epic levels.
