If you could get any artist, from anywhere, anywhen, to illustrate your setting, who would you choose? Who do you think would best capture the mood and feel of your world?

Personally, my choice is someone I just came across, by the name of Kyri Koniotou. My setting, Reth Jaleract, is dark, brutal and violent - all of which I think this guy(or girl?) can capture quite nicely.

Here are some of Kyri's pictures which I think would be especially suitable:

So, who would YOU choose to illustrate YOUR setting?

I do a lot of my own illustration on my website, but also employ, err..."borrow" artwork online. Finding quality work that exemplifies the feel for my setting has been hard, but here are a few examples. I am unaware of who the artists are:

The best Idea(tm) I ever had with regards to obtaining free artwork: Surf Elfwood (http://www.elfwood.com/), find an artist that's not a professional (not charging money) and ask for permission to use one of his/her current creations.

Jason Engle (http://www.jaestudio.com/)

Barring that, I like Joe Slucher (http://www.joeslucher.com/ImagePages/thor.html) and Diego (http://studioniten.carbonmade.com/), both of whom I met over at Concept Art forums.

Whoever did the NPC character art inside the Wheel of Time d20 book has my vote as well, but I don't know the name.

Any artist anywhere anywhen? How about one of the guys that did the old-school Heavy Metal stuff. Boris Valejo maybe?

I'd probably have to get two different artists, one for Haveneast and one for The Nightmare. I don't know who I'd want to do Haveneast, but for The Nightmare I'd unquestionably want  Brom (http://www.aliensurgeon.com/DemonSlayer-brom-2.jpg) - I'd also choose him for the original Vilydunn.

Rebecca Guay[/url].  She does a lot of work on fey-related Magic Cards (http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/index.aspx?term=Rebecca%20Guay&Field_Name=on&Field_Rules=on&Field_Artist=on&setfilter=All%20sets).

She'd totally work for it. There's a good contrast there between her work and Brom's. :D

Rebecca Guay has some nice looking art there... does she do anything other than M:tG cards?

I would assume her website would mention anything else, I just know about her from the cards.
