Okay, so yesterday I went to a comic convention. It wasn't the first I went to, nor the biggest, but it was still fun! I met Art Baltazar (http://www.artbaltazar.com/), the artist behind Patrick the Wolf Boy (his own indie press), and Tiny Titans (DC), which was pretty cool. I bought the first two issues of Tiny Titans, and scored a free sketch from him. Turns out, I probably didn't have to buy the comics for the sketch, as he was just giving 'em out to anybody who asked, but it was still definitely worth the money. I found it very amusing that he had a thick canadian accent (as "thick" as canadian accents can get, anyways), and seemed to end just about every sentence with the word "man". "Aw yea, man. You want a free sketch man? Sure, man! I'll hook ya up man..."
Also, there was one vendor that seemed to have a very strong political bent. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people with political bents (I have my own, at times), but it was just a bit odd that he let his views almost blend in with his entertainment retail business. From radical second amendment right books, to Hillary nutcrackers, it was fairly clear who his target audience was. That said, I can't complain too much about that table; I managed to pick up my own personal copy of Art Speigelman's Maus there. I've been wanting to read that for a long time, and I certainly don't regret it.
All in all, I had a good time. I managed to find a bunch of copies of Dragon magazine back issues (I probably should've picked up more; they were much cheaper then what I'm sure Paizo is offering them for), a how-to-draw book from Wizard magazine, and I even got this really cool new card game (does this imply a future review?)! On top of all that, I even managed to score some free comics, simply by becoming a Wicked Monster (TM?) :p
Anyways, I felt the desire to share all of that, and possibly even have a bit of conversation about it, but since it seemed too big for the Tavern, I figured I'd post it here :)
Sounds like it was a lot of fun. The only comic convention I've been to was the Anime Expo, a few years ago. Excluding the wait to get in, it was awesome.
