The following thread is based on the discussion thread here (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?46292).
Because I am lazy, I have yet again stolen blatantly from the "Build a city thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=837285)" on the WOTC boards:
Any poster that wishes to may post a "Chronicle". This is an account of the activities of the town and it's members. A chronicle typically covers a 1 - 3 month period. You may make anything occur that you wish to, but please obey the following guidelines before chronicling:
[spoiler=The 3 Rules]
1) No artifacts. Artifacts are unbelievably rare in the D&D universe. Most adventurers will go their entire careers without ever seeing one.
EXAMPLE RIGHT: Bob buys a periapt of wisdom from the mage
EXAMPLE WRONG: Bob kills the evil mage and pries the Sword of Kas from his dead hands
2) Major events (zombie invasions, dragon razings, disintegration of major characters, etc.) should be proposed, rather than enacted. You would post a "proposition" at the end of your post if you wanted to do something huge with a rough outline of what you wanted to happen. The NEXT poster would then be able to decide if they thought your major even was truly warranted. Thusly, for any event to occur it would have to be seconded, which would hopefully severely reduce (if not eliminate) the need to debate canon.
EXAMPLE RIGHT: Proposition-- I think it would be interesting for Bobville to be raided by a squad of Hobgoblins
EXAMPLE WRONG: Bobville is raided by Hobgoblins and dozens die in the ensuing battle. Also, everyone is now a Vampire.
3) Any poster may preceed the body of his post with the word "STOP". This means that he has taken serious issue with some event posted in the last chronicle. Further posts should not be made directly chronicling the town's events until the issue has been decided as either canon or non-canon. An event can be considered "decided" if three consecutive posts are made in agreement as to whether or not the event is canon excluding the original poster of the event.
EXAMPLE RIGHT:
Poster 1: Everyone is now a Vampire
Poster 2: STOP. That is ridiculous
Poster 3: I agree. The vampire thing is stupid as hell.
Poster 4: I agree. And thats three of us so it's out. Next person can chronicle without it.
EXAMPLE WRONG:
Poster 1: Everyone is now a Vampire
Poster 2: STOP. That is Ridiculous.
Poster 1 again: VAMPIRES ROCK, IT's CANON!
Poster 1 again: It's Canon!
Poster 1 again: It's Canon!
Poster 1 again: OK. Now that everyone's a Vampire........
[/spoiler]
Besides the 3 rules, there are also three guidelines:
[spoiler=On specific characters]
Ok. Here's the thing. D&D is about PC's. It just is. However this thread here is not. If you plan on adding a character you made to the town then problems arise. You see, if you spend a few hours making a character you have already invested effort into him. You feel some sense of ownership to him and that means you want to 'control' him. The problem is that if you control an NPC he is no longer an NPC, he's a PC. This thread is about letting as many people as possible input their ideas and use them to shape the city at large, and if you have a character that you don't want others to control then the thread stops being about Building a City and becomes about your character. If you ever make a character, item, group, or event that you consider to be specifically "yours" then it is likely that you have done something that is not conducive to the continuation of this thread.
EXAMPLE RIGHT: I think the town needs an experienced blacksmith. I'll make a 5th level expert move in this season, I'll say he's a dwarf.
EXAMPLE WRONG: I want to make a town blacksmith. I'll make Gart Stonenose, the 9th level former rogue retiree, the town blacksmith. He'll be a Level 2 fighter/Level 5 Rogue/Level 2 Dwarf Paragon* and he'll have only one eye.
*As a note, multi-classing characters in general is bad. If you want to make a PC that's fine, but there's nothing you can do with a Swashbuckler 2/Elven Paragon 3/Fighter 1 that you can't do with a 6th level Fighter
[/spoiler]
[spoiler=On all characters]
How many stuntmen do you know? How about professional bastketball players? How about astronauts, celebrities, CIA agents, Rap stars, or SWAT commanders? The answer is probably not a lot and the reason I ask is to give you an idea of the general rarity of PCs in the world. You see, in the D20 system, the above mentioned people are the folks you play as PCs, and in the D&D system "Adventurers" are no more common. As such, while it's perfectly acceptable to have people with PC classes move into the town they should not generally be more than 2% of the population. Most should be NPC classes of the appropriate type and when PCs DO come into town they should generally be of the 1st-5th level kind. An arrival of a 10th level PC into town would be like if Ludacris bought a house down the street from you. It's rare.
[/spoiler]
[spoiler=On major events]
Above, I said that "Major Events" should be proposed rather than enacted so I've complied a quick list of Major Events that can be used as guidelines. These are to be used with common sense so if your Satyr invasion only kills 4% of the population then it's still probably not that cool to just do it.
-Any event that kills 5% of the population or more (Zombie invasion)
-The introduction of an individual of equal or higher level than the highest level person in town (King arrives in town)
-The introduction of a "Character" (The Wizard Zell arives in town)
-The introduction of a group or organization (A member of the "Black Thieves Guild" arrives in town)
-Any event which irrevocably changes the way the town will function for the foreseeable future (The Wizard Zell builds an enormous Magic Academy)
-The death or permanent altering of any "Character" in town (The Wizard Zell gets disintegrated in a duel)
-The introduction of any monster or group of monsters which cannot be reasonably defeated by the town (A Black Dragon takes up residence in the nearby hills)
[/spoiler]
You can also choose to post a "Journal". This is basically the thoughts of someone. It can be either a villager in the city or even an antagonist to the city. A journal can be used to create extra flavor or explain something in more detail, but it is not something that carries the city forward.
And there we are. Start posting, first come, first serve. :)
--Prelude--

Para Bay seemed to be the best meeting place to drop off or pick up goods, both traveling inland and out to sea. During the first few hours after a ship came in, it was a busy place with sailors and merchants loading and unloading ships and carts.
It wasn't long after Para Bay was discovered that someone got the idea of setting up a small business there. Elben Milner was the man, a fairly young but skilled cook. Through a loan with a wealthy merchant he got enough money to hire workers to build him a small tavern where he could serve sailors a hot meal and cold ale.
--End of prelude--
Year 1, Month 1
Although some days saw more guests than others, Elben already knew he had made a good investment when he had been open for business for half a month.
At the end of the month, Elben was approached by a man who introduced himself as Jack Ashoff, a merchant. As a merchant, Jack knew that merchants coming to pick up goods from the ships didn't always have the items that sailors were looking for. Jack wanted to set up a general store to provide these items. Elben agreed, thinking that a general store would be better for business.

Year one, month 2
(Which to the 'VolkGara' (Mountain people), would be the Month of Climbing, in the Fourth Year of the Broken Door)
Doph Genir Veterude, dwarven miner of the Genir family up in the Whiskandir Peaks is on a trip to check the family 'summer mine' in the Snarulo Hills, to make sure no beasts or creatures have taken up residence. The Snarulo hills are the hills just south of Para Bay.
(He and his brother Venndak Genir Veterude did have to kick out a small groupm of kobolds, but were able to coerce them to leave)
As they come down the backside of Pastavol, the middle Snarulo hill, they note the smoke coming from the Inn, hear the voices of the sailors coming off board on the way to the new inn.
Doph and Venndak stop by and surprise Elben with a visit. They hate the thin excuse he has by way of ale. They promise to go back home and bring him some real ale on their way back south to the hills in a few months, if he is interested.
[spoiler=Clan Veterude]
The clan lives in the Whiskandir peaks to the north. Mainly Iron and silver can be found there. The brothers intend on bringing 3 kegs of Gastax XXX and 3 kegs of Island Magic Brew when the Genir family comes to their summer residence. They do NOT intend on telling the rest of Clan Veterude about the Innon the bay.
This residence of the Genir family is on the seaward side of the middle of the hills to the south of Parabay.[/spoiler]

Year 1, Month 2 (cont.)
It was a busy month for Jack. Having the store built cost a lot of money, and that meant less money for supplies. He did manage to get enough stock to open quickly, and with the profit from the first wave of merchants any doubts were immediately erased. He knew this would be a great investment. Especially if those dwarves followed through on their offer to bring ale. That would surely increase overall business in this little traveler stop. The only problem was that food supplies tended to be sporadic.

Brother Aval Mallen, an acolyte of the Grey Brotherhood, in a crisis of faith ran away from his monastery, 3 days on foot southwest of Parabay, hoping to board the next ship destined for his homeland far to the west country. While standing on the rocks at the sea's edge looking out for a coming ship, Aval slipped and fell into the turbulent waters of the cove. He could not swim.
Jack made a dash for him, but the current drew the holy man out to sea. By some miracle a sudden wave lifted the drowning priest and tossed him onto the rocky islet that sits within the cove of Parabay. Brother Aval exclaimed that the watery voice of the Spirit Lady of the Cove, Celanta saved him from drowning but demanded he construct a shrine on the islet to honor her and she protect those settling by the cove. The waters between the islet and the cove shore is shallow enough for a man to wade across chest deep.
Penniless and without a central church for support, Brother Aval asks for donations and help to build a small shrine to Celanta, he does build a crude hovel on the shore nearest the islet, but hopes this is a temporary residence.

The Longboat flew the Gules and Argent Eagle of the Duchy of Dernallion on patrol for pirate activity in these waters. The hidden cove appeared to be an ideal spot for pirates to hide, so they were investigating such activity when arriving at Para Bay.
After an initial scare by the new residents of the village by the cove, the incident went without harm, and an eager crew got a day's shore leave to visit the tavern.
Not wishing to claim Dernallion sovereignty, Captain Sir Ragnald Stalart, commander of the Dernallion expedition suggested the allowance of the establishment of a naval wharf to enforce antipiracy in the region, keeping a military presence to disuade use of the cove by such pirates. A supply and portage agreement could be drawn up within the next two months, if the residents agree.

Elben and Jack presents the offer for Ragnald Stalart, and after a bit of offering and counterofferings, Ragnald accepts to have a small wharf built, but left in charge of Elben and Jack. In return, any ship flying the Dernallion colors will get a rebate on food supplies.

The Genir family has been making thier way from the Whiskandir Peaks to the Snarulo Hills, just south of the Para Bay. There are 11 of them, and they ended moving a little faster than they wanted to, having run into the Kwikson Tribe (mainly goblinoids and some pet rock squirells) up north, maybe 2 days north of Para Bay. Difficult with the 5 mules, even harder with the small cart with extra beer casks Doph insisted on bringing.
The bad thing was they had to move a lot faster than they wanted to.
The good thing is the 4 small spears, 4 suits of small, slightly damaged boiled leather armor, and the quartz necklace they managed to aquire.
On day 22, Doph and Venndak leave the family and make a slight detour to visit Elben. They were able to obtain 3 casks of 'Island Magic', an ale with a touch of rum, and 2 casks of Gastax XXX, a high-alcohol porter (these are big casks, 4' high. . Both beers are decently know dwarven recipes, and they know it. But instead of bargaining too hard with Elben, they ask for preferential trading partner positions.
After tasting the Gastax XXX, they are all sworn to it. In a magnanamous mood, Venndak pretty much gives away the spears and leather armor to Jack.
Thinking about the future, Doph and Venndak leave going south, where the rest of the Genir family is setting up Housekeeping in the caves on Pastavol. Doph needs to ask his grandpappy about that "Island Magic' recipe.

Jack agrees heartily. Perhaps the Genir's could produce nails for construction, and the possibility of sea use items, such as anchors, tow rings and other critical metal ship's parts. He spends in evenings in quiet prayer and communion on the islet. He has even taught himself to swim to be closer to his goddess.
While doing his work, he has offered bits of wisdom taught him by Celanta - he begins to preach though never to annoyance and then silently works at carpentry.

A ship flying the colors of Dernallion anchors out at sea and sends a longboat to the wharf. Aboard are three men and a young girl. With Jakob is his cousin Wynston, his brother Dasdon, and his daughter, the beautiful Perita.
Jakob makes a deal with Halder Valkalan, who agrees to allow the four to stay in his small shack behind his house in return for helping tend the fields.

It turns out that Wynston is quite the proficient hunter, and has offered to train anyone in town who is interested in learning to hunt, and Dasdon is a bit of a carpenter as well. Perita spends a few days being anti-social, but by the end of their first week, makes acquaintances with Brother Aval, and the two begin talking as friends.

The Ceng family finished their house, and were quite happy with the job. As for Brother Aval, more ears seemed to perk up when he spoke of the Lady of the Sea. Not to mention there seemed more and more talk of actually building the shrine. However, people were too preoccupied with the farming to go over there.

Bixanna and her little sister Vexanna take a mule and wagon to the General Store and bring Jack another 288 half-penny nails and a copper threshold for the Elben's Inn. The check with Jack for any special requestrs, and go over to the Inn. Young Vexanna notes that Elben is male. Blatantly.
*Wink-Wink, Nudge-Nudge*
The girls also ask the name of the Inn (getting a blank stare from the already-flummoxed Elben), and take back the empty pony kegs and XL kegs. They note the envious stares at their mule.
While the Genir family ladies load up the kegs, Dasdon comes over and helps install the new copper threshold.
He asks for a smaller copper threshold for his outhouse, which gives the ladies slight pause.
Before they go back to the Snarulo hills home, Vexanna mentions that she likes coming down to the Hamlet. Elben asks her if that is what the place looks like, and she nods.

Year 1, Month 7, 2nd day
A crabbing schooner with a broken main-brace pulls into the cove requiring a place for repairs.
Goskin Vaal and his brother Kreb run a crabbing schooner from Landsport 400 miles down the coast. Just last season they discovered the richest shoals of blue crab lies just beyond the mouth of Para Bay, about 5 leagues out. The reason they travel so far, is that the winter portage fees at Landsport is ridiculously high for fisherman. Only a rich haul will suffice.
They'd hoped their harvest of blue crab could be sufficient enough to make the year profitable. Unfortunately the broken main-brace would cost them the season. In exhasperation, Goskin asks Jack - what would you charge me for winter portage fees?
Kreb spending too much time beneath the flagon, declares, "This tavern needs a name! I say its the Blue Crab Inn." and promptly drops into unconsciousness.
[note Goskin needs an Answer]How much are portage fees for a crabbing schooner? If you give me a fair price, I will give you a crab market that will make you rich...[/note]

I looked for a pre-established name for the forest and didn't see anything, so I went with Sharonn - I'll change it if needed[/note]
Wynston has had some great success hunting in the Sharonn Forest north of the bay, and has decided that he would like to build a small hunting lodge where he can stay out in the woods and hunt for large game without worry of the villagers scaring away prime game by being too close. He finds a suitable locale about five miles into the forest in a small clearing, and coerces his nephew Dasdon to help him build as well, when Dasdon's not busy with the shrine.
Jakob has been spending more and more time at the tavern, when he's not helping the Valkalans with their land. He has made quick friends (or at least, acquaintances) with Goskin and Kreb, and talks often of sailing off with them next time they head out for the crabs.

Year 1, Month 7, end of month
Goskin and Kreb finish repairing the main-brace of the schooner and invite Jakob to join them. With the generously low portage fee agreed upon with Elben and Jack, the plan is to harvest as many crab traps the season will allow, take the 3 week journey to Landsport drop the crabs and return with their families to hopefully build a future in the hamlet at Para Bay.
Goskin promises to pay all portage fees and the building of a home for two families (if that could be arranged), upon the arrival back to the cove in 7 weeks.
They drop off 50 blue crabs as a deposit to Elben to add to the Inn's menu.
Graden Valkalan has been eagerly learning to hunt with Wynston and helping to build the hunting lodge. "Graden has the patience of a tree!" so Wynston proclaims.
Nolan Valkalan delivers 5 bushels of rabisgrass and 3 bushels of Swamp Leaf, the first crops to ripen, in addition to 100 pounds of potatoes to Jack at the General Store. "It will be another month before the greens will be ready to harvest", he informs Jack.
Brother Aval gives a formal baptism for Perita with a swim to Celanta Islet, and an evening of prayer to officially sanctify her as the first lay disciple of Celanta.
Perita asks if the Shrine might need a choir, "we could ask the Ceng's if they were interested."

They have the copper threshhold for Elben, and a metal frame to hang a sign on. Doph asks Elben if he might need some pewter mugs or some ceramic ones, since they make both.
They have 2 lg casks of 'Gastax XXX', the high alcohol, high gravity porter. They have 2 lg casks of Hopitup, the nut- and honey ale, as well. They try 2 steamed crabs.
They go visit Jack, and bring him 3 ceramic Pujumi casks (about 2 liters, tall and thin) full of the Whiskandir Mountain Whiskey (Now you can see why Doph has not been around). They also bring 2 long tandem saws (iron), 3 single saws (iron), 288 more iron penny nails, 2 plain steel sax daggers, and 20 steel tipped high-quality hunting arrows. They gladly take a bushel of both Swampleaf and RabisGrass as part of their payment, as well as some cured venison. They praise the Valkalan family.
They also ask what else they hamlet needs.
They mention that Grandpappy Hull 'The Bull' Genir Veterude is not doing well, and that they have sent for a few Genir cousins to help out. Venndak mutters something about having to build the first tomb in the summerhome becasue Doph is stubborn.

Garlhogs are the size of a large dog, with short stubby legs, stubby necks, and a thick tough skin that is great as cured hide. Their meat is delicious if cooked properly, and males grow two large, curved horns on their heads which can be used for tools and carving. Females can be milked for a bittersweet milk.[/note]
Wynston and Graden have been doing well, bringing in meat from the roaming garlhogs in the area. They have also, with the help of Dasdon, laid a foundation and supports for a small hunting lodge, which will include a small kitchen with various preparation methods for preserving meats, two small bed rooms, all joined by a small common room with a fire pit. They plan a stables as well, but with only one true carpenter in the area (Dasdon), it is hard to get a lot of proper buildings built.
Wynston has also been considering attempting to catch a few of the garlhogs and trying to raise them for sustainability, but has no place to pen them, and has no animal farming experience. He heads over to ask the wise Elben if he has any suggestions and advice on the methods of raising (or herding) garlhogs.
Brother Aval, Perita, and Dasdon have been having vigorous discussions as to the nature of Celanta's shrine, in particular how it should be designed. Brother Aval would love to have a round, open-top structure with circular pews, surrounding a small pool, but Dasdon disagrees on the practicalities of such a structure. As of yet, they are undecided on the best route to take.
Brother Aval kindly informs Bixanna that Celanta has many symbols, but he remembers a beautiful painting of one of the most common symbols - that of a willow tree spread over a quiet pond.

The two have a relatively loud discussion, with Nolan pointing fingers at the currently-gone Jakob, and Wynston insisting that a wolf is to blame for the missing sheep. Nolan will agree to teach Wynston how to properly capture and raise the garlhogs if Wynston will find the "wolf" and stop his sheep from going missing.
Dasdon is approached by Baffy Ceng, the patron of the Ceng family, who has quite some experience with carpentry. The two strike up a deal that Baffy will help Dasdon more quickly complete the hunting lodge, as well as a residence for the Kynwolf family, if Dasdon will help Baffy with convincing Elben to provide a stage in his tavern for his children to sing on, as well as if Dasdon can convince Wynston to provide the Cengs with six horns off captured and killed garlhogs.
The two shake on it and begin much speedier work on the hunting lodge. Dasdon also asks Baffy on his recommendations on Brother Aval's shrine, but Baffy "needs to think on it."

Much of the Whiskandir Dwarven faith deals with the earth being the reflecion of the sky and the water, with mirror deities.[/note]on the Top of Pastavol. They don't go into the why, but they say that they have a great view of the Cranbuit Sea, North, South, and East. They can light a lantern or a smokey fire when a ship is sighted, if Elben Milner thinks anyone is interested.
Doph also says that Venndak is going to start building a forge right next to the Inn and Store. Doph will be there sometimes, and will still be making ale and will work the 'much larger forge' they have built under Pastavol, But clearly, it will help having a local representative. So Venndak and Vexanna will be manning a local forge, which they start building at the end of the month, with help from Doph, Kenndak, and Bixanna.

While tracking a buck roe through the forest just south and west of the hunting lodge site late in the evening, a constant droning was sounding around Wynston and Graden. Graden quickly recognized the sound, "There's a beehive around here sounds like a big one, maybe more than one. We'll need to check it out in the morning."
The next morning proved a treasure await the hamlet about 2 miles north in the woods. No less than a dozen large honeybee nests in a copse of large oaks.
"I spent two summers working on my great uncle's apiary (bee yard) before the forest fire took it and my uncle's passing that winter. It wouldn't take much to get an apiary going here, but I'm going to need some help."
After bringing the news to his family he runs off to Jack and Elben to report his findings, to which Jack says, "Honey and wax." While Elben smiles and says "Mead!"

Venndak and Vexanna (with help) have finished the hearth and a soapstone slack tub. They have a small dwarven (double sided) anvil, tongs, a huge hammer, and a chisel, as well as 3 sides of the building built.
Doph has brought down 2 more kegs of Gastax XXX and 2 kegfs of hopitup. They are surprised how fast it is moving.
Bixanna brings Brother Aval a 2' ceramic willow tree with cunning copper wire branches, built so that he can place it in a pool. She tells him that Doph is thinking about not going back to the Whiskandirt mountains at the end of the summer, and she thought this would be a nice offering of Kenderlas. [note=Kenderlas] Kenderlas is part of the dwarven 'friend-making' rituals. Though a little stiff and formal to outsiders, dwarves see nothing wrong with making or giving something carefully thought out to favorably incline someone towards them. The Kenderlas defines the gift-giving itself.[/note] SHe aslo says that Gandpappy Hull cannot be moved anyways.
They go visit Jack, and bring him 3 more ceramic Pujumi casks (about 2 liters, tall and thin) full of the Whiskandir Mountain Whiskey, since he has run out.

Year 1, Month 9, 19th Day
A spontaneous "village meeting" occurs at the Blue Crab Inn, which included most of the locals that evening. Nolan Valkalan was as boisterous as ever, about getting some goverment into this hamlet. Seconded by Jack. No one was ready to name one person as mayor, Brother Aval, who does visit to share a draft with the men now and again was there and suggested an equal society.
"Each adult resident of the hamlet gets one vote, majority rules on every decision. You'll also need to set aside some monies through a taxation to build a town hall - we can't use Elben's place to hold court," he gets laughter from the room. "I think the farmers need a bridge to cross the river and still be high enough to allow small boats to pass - a project for next spring, I think."
Jack said, "Well, I'm not sure how much a bridge is going to cost, but for forming a hamlet council - all in favor?" The men stood up one and all and said, "Aye!"
"I think we need a part-time peace officer, one of us should do it." said Nolan.
Though not everyone in the hamlet was there, there was a majority that night. The next meeting will be official. They agreed to discuss appointing a peace officer before the month was over.
Year 1 Month 9, 20th day
It seemed everybody was in a good mood this day. All those in a good mood were reflecting on the night before. Not only were they getting a little structure, but every person had a vote. Various people walked up and down the river, looking for the best spot to put a bridge. Elben was lost in dreams of voting and mead. Not just mead, but the money it would bring in. Graden surveyed the beehives one more time, trying to get one last picture of what their apiary would be like before they came out there with workers. All in all, it was a good day. However, they had yet to decide on a "peace officer," and most of the townsfolk went to bed thinking of who they would vote for at the next meeting.

Year 1, Month 10, 5th Day
Just a day after equipping the apiary with everything it needed to go, Graden figured the late season would only allow a single harvest before the cooler upcoming months would end it. With one farm wife and a half dozen children working hard all day and not a few stings later, 130 gallons of honey and 60 pounds of wax was extracted from the nests. 50 gallons Graden placed in a cask for Elden's use at making a winter batch of mead, leaving 80 gallons placed in pint ceramic jars to be sold at Jack's store.
The first wheel of Stern cheese was brought to Jack's from the new dairy, along with 12 gallons of butter, and 2 gallons of sweet cream, along with the usual 20 gallons of milk.
The seasons bounty was proving that Para Bay should have a bumper crop by harvest time.
Of the latest newcomers to town are the Bumfiedels, Gunter and his wife Nora are millers with some skill with a baking oven. Gunter plans to build a water mill on the river with an attached bakery and home.
And a Dernallion corvette lay at harbor among the first at the latest batch of Gastax XXX, the first casks of butter, though Jack doesn't let them take the cheese wheel - he thought the locals should have first dibs on the cheese.
Lieutenant Callen DuFlor, the captain of the pirate patrol boat leaves word that the Duchy wants to place a warehouse and office near the wharf to better manage their supplies here at Para Bay. He also pre-pays for a gallon of Elden's first batch of mead when he should return here in the 2 months from now.

"Biswang's Teats, did you have to hit him there, Venndak?", said Nolan.
The Cleanshaven dwarf smiled back at Nolan. "No place of bondage here, Nolan...I didn't want him getting up again."
In the morning of the 13th, Lieutenant Callen DuFlor pays a gruff, but apologetic vist to the Blue Crab Inn the next morning, promising no repeat of the affairs of the night before. The tension is broken when he mentions that one of the sailors might be singing on the Goodwive's side of the choir for a while.

Wynston's hunting lodge has mostly been completed - it includes a small common room with a fire pit, a large preparatory kitchen, and two sleeping rooms. Dasdon even added in a special treat - he was able to use some spare, rare bluebirch wood to create a beautiful woven frame to hold artwork. Now, Wynston would like to commission some sort of art to go into the frame. He has heard that the Ceng boy, Chalson, has a good talent for painting, and begins talking about teaching the boy to hunt in trade for a beautiful piece of art for his hunting lodge. Chalson, believing that if he learns to hunt, it will make him more of a man in his father's eyes, accepts, and the two begin working on ideas for a painting.
The work on the shrine has been extremely slow, but eventually, Brother Aval and Perita convince Dasdon to build the circular shrine they so desire. By this time, the shrine is half-built, and is about 25 feet in diameter, with one large pew going almost the full length of circumference. In the center is a small pool with a stone wall. The plans are to have a domed top (which Dasdon is concerned with his own abilities to complete this, but Baffy believes it can be done) with a small circular hatch up top that can allow rainwater into the pool. Baffy's main concern is that the wooden pew will eventually rot, so there should eventually be a stone upgrade, but he has no experience in stonework. Brother Aval plans on putting the beautiful ceramic willow tree sculpture in the pool as part of the "Commissioning Ceremony" for the shrine, when it is completed shortly. He hopes that there will be a larger attendance to his shrine's opening than the small summer solstice event.
Now that Dasdon's two projects are mostly done, he and Baffy go to Elben to make their proposal for a small stage to built in the Blue Crab.

A hamlet meeting is finally called to order at the Blue Crab. Concern over the recent brawl in the tavern, along with other not-so-legal activities - brings the question of law once again.
The attendants nominate Wynston to act as part-time peace officer, though he serves as hunter and hunting trainer, he doesn't have a farm or business to manage, he has more free time and less responsibilities than many of the other residents. Wynston accepts and is told he will be paid a small monthly stipend.
A green sash worn across Wynston's chest denotes his status as Peace Officer.
Talk then goes to building a village hall, with the added need for a reinforced cellar to serve as a gaol - as the need has already come up. Moneys for lumber, foundations stones are quickly allocated for the venture. Jack asks Venndak if he could fashion a lock to place on the cellar storm door for the hamlet gaol.
This is starting to look like a proper village, thinks Jack.

The Vaal brothers and Jakob finally return from Landsport with their crab schooner and a small sloop carrying the Vaal families, as the schooner is filled to the deck with crab traps, hooks, fish nets and all the various goods to operate a crabbing whart. Jakob is exhausted from the past few months extensive labors - but he's earned an unexpectedly high payment for all his work. "Crabbing is hard work, but the money is good!" says Jakob to his family.
Goskin Vaal approaches Jack with the idea, of adding on to the existing wharf to add crabbing piers and even a crab cage in the water where loads of crab and be stored for later transport. He's been talking to other crab boats and not a few fisherman who are currently fed up with Landsport's exceedly high portage fees. Goskin believes the spring will bring many boats from Landsport to join Para Bay and a brand new fishing port-of-call for merchant traffic. Goskin and Kreb thank the villagers and move into their new homes.

Jakob, exhausted from his experience of learning the art of "crabbing," is very pleased to see his family integrating themselves very well into the village, but is concerned that the family has not built themselves homes yet, as well as that they are so spread out. He decides it is time for the Kynwolfs to have a proper home, and picks a spot on the north-west side of the bay, directly west with Celanta's shrine.
Elben has agreed to allow Dasdon and Baffy to build a small stage in the Blue Crab, but only on the light-hearted condition that Baffy's children regularly perform to keep spirits up.
Brother Aval and Perita are unable to find the beggar who led the dangerous bear away from Perita, and both grow fearful that he may have been slain - though he has not been the most welcome presence in the village, it would be a great injustice for such a noble act to lead to the man's death.
The two ask Wynston to please be on the lookout for the man while he's out in the forests hunting for the community.
Wynston seems to be very pleased with his new position as Peace Officer. He would, however, like to have a nice, shiny sword to replace the rusted sword he's been carrying around. He decides that it's about time to find out how skillful these dwarven blacksmiths are!
Celanta's shrine is nearing completion of the structure itself, but Baffy and Dasdon both believe that a thatch roof would not hold well on the dome shape they've been working on, and they don't have proper stoneworking ability. They decide to ask Bixanna if she has any experience with ceramic tiles. This also gives them the idea of putting ceramic tiles at the base of the pool for added beauty.

[note=work] trying to do this post while answering 94 emails that came in last night after I left early for a doctor's visit. so it may be a bit disjointed[/note]
Hull, the Patriarch of the Genir family, is definitely too sick to move. Kenndak has actually sent for some cousins to come help the Genir's, as they are going to stay the season, at least. Venndak lets it slip to Wynston (while taking an order for the mid-sized broad sword he prefers) that Doph plans to build on the other side of Pastavol and the Snarulo hills eventually. Venndak says that Doph thinks he can set up room for a few dwarves there, as well as a room or so for taller folk, in times of emergency. [note=coinage] If we need to make changes here, so be it. Hestia is a relatively old (400+ years) city-state south of the Duchy of Dernallia. Hestia is one of the few places where they mint any coins. They have been minting for about two hunderd and fifty years. Their coins are worth their weight in that metal (zero seigniorage), and are actually made in the shape of 1/3 of a circle, with one curved edge. The curved edge has differnt millings for the different coins, so it is said that the Hestian Minters have their eyes struck out to be better at what they do. They make Silver Groti, Electrum Ingi, and Gold Venals.
The Whiskandir mountain dwarves (The 'VolkGara')make small brick-shaped coins (2"lx 1/2"wx 1/2"h) of gold and Platium only.[/note]
Venndak tells Wynston that he is going to have to make the blade in the hill-forge, since currently the smithy is for lighter work. He says hecould make a decent blade down here, but the product will be better coming out of the hotter, enlarged furnace Doph and Kenndak have been building in Pastavol. It will be ready at the onset of the Month of Solar pinncacle (next month in Dwarven). He's going to make 2, but the price is going to be only 50 Hestian Electrum Ingi for both, just to cover materials, or the equivalent in trade. He's thinking something with a willow stamped on the bottom of the blade.
(//../../e107_files/public/1207665340_392_FT46925_willow.jpg)
(Imagine this stamped on shiney steel)
Bixanna says that she and Kenndak have extensice ceramic training, and would be able to create rooftiles, and maybe some white with blue ocean-stylized curliques. She says the roof tiles will be light and wide, while the pool ones will be best at 6" squares made for duarbility. Those will be completed by month's end.

Wynston thinks Venndak's ideas for blades sound superb, but is a little worried about the price, as he has no paying job currently, and can only offer meat from his hunting kills. He decides to ask Jakob for to lend him the money, and Jakob complies, and would like to own one of the blades as well.
Brother Aval and Perita are both very pleased with Bixanna's samples of tile, and are both looking forward to seeing them.
While work on the shrine has been halted due to waiting on the tiles, Dasdon and Baffy complete the stage at the Blue Crab - it's a small affair, but will cover small groups very easily.
Chalson has finished his painting, a beautiful piece of art featuring a large, multi-pointed buck grazing in front of the hunting lodge on a winter day, and it is now inside the bluebirch frame in the hunting lodge.
Wynston's hunting lodge has received some attention - Graden, as well as Chalson Ceng, have been hunting regularly. Shaymus Stern has also been out, and the four of them have been bringing in quite a bounty to the village in the evenings.
On the 20th day of the month, Wyston and Shaymus find the drunkard who saved Perita's life, dead face down in a stream. The only wound on his body is a small arrow hole above the man's right thigh - there are no bear wounds, and the arrow wound does not seem bad enough to have killed the man. Wynston takes the sad news to Perita, and helps her bury the man about 500 paces north of Brother Aval's shack. His grave is marked by a simple wooden post.

Year 1, Month 11, Morning of Day 22
Brother Aval is horrified at the prospect of the possible undead implications in his tiny parish. To his shame, he knows that he lacks the knowledge to combat such vile beings and is forced to contact those of whom he left barely a year ago. The Monastery of St. Ambrathas follows the church that he had a crisis of faith and left - only to be converted by the goddess herself.
The right course of action meant contacting the Monastery and ask for assistance if but access to the holy scripts required to fight an undead menace. Because of the nature of his history with the monastery, he must do this alone. He bids the hamlet folk a "be home soon!" borrow a cart from the cartwrights, and Vexanna's mule and promises to be gone no more than a fortnight.
Though Perita asks to accompany him, Brother Aval says this is a task he must do alone.

Bixanna and Venndak finish the tiles, and deliver them. Perita is sad, but puts upa brave face. Bixanna helps her install them, trying to cheer her up.
Doph delivers the 2 swords to Jakob and Wynston, They are solid broadswords with very heavy pommels for balance, with the willow stamped on the blade. Very easy to use, they look great.
Wynston mentions he cannot figure where the arrow came from that slew the missing drunkard, but that he found a small broken bow to the north-west.
Doph also says that there will be a few dwarves from the Hinjik Veterude family here by the end of the month.
Venndak finishes 2 locks, one for the eventual gaol.
Venndak is also busy making 288 nails, 30 arrow heads, 1 kettles, 2 pots, 1 wood axes, a bhuj and he has finished the set of six 'constables' whistles.
Doph has made 8 Kilderkin of Island Magic (18 gallons each, 144 gallons), 6 Kilderkin of 'Hopitup', which has the new honey (18 gallons each, 180 gallons) and 3 more hoghead barrels of Gastax XXX with mountings and taps (63 gallons each, total 189 gallons).
There is a huge celebration at the Blue Crab inn, when Gledna Stern admits she's with child again. The first child of the Hamlet!!

Year 1, Month 12, Day 9
After only digging 6 feet, bedrock was hit, on the progress for the village hall cellar. It was decided that it would have to be a shallow cellar and gaol. On the upside it moved the schedule to completion by several weeks and cost less than proposed, as less foundation wall height was required, thus less material used. This afternoon the last floor joist was laid - progress was moving at a great pace!
Gunter Bumfiedels with some assistance from Kreb Vaal has completed enough of the Mill foundation to place the grinding stone, drive axle and waterwheel assembly so grain could be milled immediately, while the rest of the structure is built around it. Due to all the heavy lifting required, they needed a large work crew just for a single day's labor. Nora has prepared the first ever Para Bay Crab Cake, her own recipe, with crab and herbs from along the river along with flour they brought with them. Elben is taken with the crab cake and asks for the recipe, but Nora only winks and says, "I've give the Inn a special discount for them, once my bakery is ready to open - after the mill is complete of course."
At the next hamlet meeting that evening, Goskin Vaal takes the podium with a proposal to the community. "I've been a crab fisherman for 14 years and earned a fair income most of that time, until recently. Landsport is a corrupt bureaucracy with only those at the top having extreme wealth despite the booming trade in that town, with everyone else just getting by."
"Para Bay needs to be more than just a port for crab fisherman, we could own the crab market! I don't want to become that tyrant and own that industry, besides I don't have the capital to start this up myself. The whart needs added onto with several short piers for crab boats, several crab-cages (18 foot cubes of square bar steel caging able to hold a large collections of crab, most of which is in the water of the cove.)"
"I would rather not rely on outside lenders. My proposal is to create the Para Bay Crabbing Company which is wholey owned by the existing residents of the hamlet. We'll need to create legislation for portage fees, boat charters, harvest limitations of the Para Bay crab shoals outside the harbor. I know several fish merchants from Landsport, Dernallion and other ports along the Olive Coast far to the south and west."
"I know from observation and results, if we could get a crabbing facility up before the start of next season, by this time next year, the hamlet might be growing into a town and residents here would become wealthy citizens. How do you vote?"
Jack adjourned the meeting, and said, "We'll vote next meeting, we need some time to think."
Year 1, Month 12, Day 14
Captain Ragnald sails back into Para bay for a few days. During that time, he seems to spend a lot of time with Jakob Kynwolf, at Jakob's newly finished house. The two are overheard once in the Blue Crab talking about some sort of trial back on the mainland. Captain Ragnald says that he probably won't be back for awhile, due to some political strife in the Duchy of Dernallion regarding the neighboring city-state of Kalsworth and a dispute over mining territories. He asks Elben if there is anything he should need over the course of the next three months, and Elben says that if Ragnald can find a glazier interested in settling in Para Bay, that the community could probably use some glass windows and bottles in the near future. Ragnald says he'll see what he can do, and sails off, promising to return by the third month of next year, which is when the pirate season gets really active.
Several of the members of Para Bay have made it out to Wynston's hunting lodge in recent days, and most are saying the same thing - "Chalson's painting is astonishing!" Elben took a special trip out to see the work, and has now commissioned Chalson for a painting for the Blue Crab. He would like it so show the Blue Crab inn in twilight, with lights in the windows, and a festive atmosphere, and several people outside enjoying the weather. Chalson agrees, and says he will do it in his spare time, and should hopefully have the painting done by year's end, but it could take longer.
Wynston is extremely happy and impressed with Doph's craftsmanship of the sword, and asks Doph if it would be possible to make a badge to pin to the top of his green scarf, with the same symbol stamped in the metal.
Jakob and Goskin have been excitedly talking about the plans for the crab cages in the Bay. They have decided they will first ask Doph and the dwarves for help on the construction of the cages, but are unsure if that is truly their specialty. They have all the plans designed out, and look forward excitedly to the next village meeting.
With the tiles completed, the shrine to Celanta is all but complete. It could definitely use some decorations, and Perita speaks to Gledna Stern about possibly designing a few tapestries to hang in the small shrine. She is sad that Brother Aval has not yet been able to see the finished shrine, but she has taken over his duties at the shrine for the time being.

Rugin Smarf arrives in town, a big, burly fellow who has made his living as a lumberjack, with his wife, who could also be described as of generous proportions. The forests near their old home have been rather clearcut and he shows up here hearing stories of lots of construction and lots of need of wood, which means no doubt lots of work for a sturdy lumberjack.
In addition, another drunkard has turned up. This one is also slightly insane, and even more disruptive than the first, loudly yelling at anyone who passes by, urinating in the middle of public roads, and screeching about ancient prophecies that state the end of the world is nigh.

Brother Aval finally returns from the Monastery of St. Ambrathas, with him an elderly gentlemen in the raiments of a monk, but a youthful look in his eyes at the prospects of a new life.
Brother Jeredah Tiddle, a learned monk, who became aware of the need for education in this new community of Para Bay, as well as defense against the unholy, like the undead. He hopes to spend his waning years educating the young, and healing the sick and wounded. Unwilling to play the role of missionary for St. Ambrathas, Brother Jeredah hopes to feel truly needed once again.
After a community welcome, the Stern Family offers a room for the elderly priest to stay, but Brother Jeradah insists, "Take me to this grave site, please." So begins the investigation of the possible zombie situation.
Brother Aval is greeted by Perita with a hug and a kiss, to his fright. She drags him to see the near completed shrine. Once on the altar he begins the rites to properly annoint it and chants a prayer in sync with Perita. "Celanta, I hope this pleases you as much as I am." he thinks to himself.
The village hall is completely framed and being plank sided at this time, another 10 days perhaps and the construction will be completed.
Kenndak Genir perched on his sky platform atop the highest Snarulo hill, begins to note changes in air pressure and a buffeting breeze from the sea, stronger than usual. There could be a storm a few days out, this will have to be watched closely, even so late in the storm cycle...

Year 1, Month 12, Day 19
Brother Jeredah seems convinced that the stirrings of the grave are indeed signs of undead activity, but thus far, has been unable to find the zombie's whereabouts. He makes sure to speak with Wynston about the possibilities of encountering a zombie, and informs the young man that he is not to engage the zombie if spotted, and instead, must come back and inform him of the undead's location so that it can be dealt with without risk of harm. Wynston agrees, but feels a little miffed that the monk doesn't believe he can handle the situation on his own.
Goskin and the other crabbers are looking forward to the next meeting, scheduled in just three nights - he feels strongly that the village will vote to allow the crabbing operations to begin here.
Dasdon has been talking to Rugin Smarf about the possibilities of teaming up in the latter's logging ambitions. Dasdon feels that he help Rugin build a great facility for logging, and would like to be part of the staff once operations begin.
On the night of the 19th, a steady wind comes into Para Bay, bringing with it light rainfall, and heavy clouds. There seems to be quite a storm on the horizon. Jakob, alone again in his home, hears scratching on the door around midnight, but by the time he investigates, there is no one there. He does hear ominous moaning coming from the woods to the north, but assumes it is the wind blowing through the trees.

Year 1, Month 12, Day 22 - the Night of the Storm...
Kenndak can barely keep the signal fire lit in the gale-force winds atop Snarulo Hill, but manages to place the shiny inner surface of an unfinished shield to provide added reflection so the hamlet can see that troubles abrewing.
Goskin is explaining setup details for the crabbing operation when the north window shutters begin banging against the wall as the stop comes loose. Elben rushes outside to see a black, black sky, peals of lightening and horizontal rain striking his face with a stinging and notices the signal fire from the Genir's.
"A storm is upon us!" Jack shouts. Some people try to scramble to their homes, but the winds and sheets of rain make it almost impossible to move more than a few feet before becoming lost in the havoc. Loose shingles and debris fly through the air like Wynston's arrows, so Elben runs back inside. "Get under the tables everyone, batten down those shutters! There's a maelstrom out there."
Brother Aval trudges through the harsh wind, struggling through the crashing waves to climb onto Celanta's islet and the newly built shrine. He drops to his knees and calls to his deity - bring us redemption from this storm, oh mother of the cove! In these words I pray..."
Wives and children who didn't attend the Blue Crab are huddled at home in prayer to Celanta as well.
A stirring occurs, counter to the winds and the sea surrounding the rock of Celanta's Islet, then a rising of water forms a great cyclone that spirals to the skies above the storm. Though heavy rains still pass the cyclone walls, the great winds are forced into the current of the cyclone. It suddenly expands in buffets to encompass the entire cove, then the hamlet, then even to the outer isles beyond the cove entrance, encapsulating the Genir's hill manse and much of the farmland in the valley beyond the cove.
The storm lasts 9 hours almost to midnight. Exhausted the villagers in the Blue Crab begin filing out to view the destruction - which to everyone's surprise is minimal. Celanta's Cyclone protected Para Bay and everyone realizes this. Many people drop to their knees in thanks to Celanta - their true goddess protector.
There would be plenty of repair work tomorrow, but the residents turn in to their homes in relief and thankfulness.

(Which to the 'VolkGara' (Mountain people), would be the Month of Peril, in the Fourth Year of the Broken Door)
Doph and Venndak are constructing a simple bladder pump for the new cellars under Pastavol, as well as a tomb for Hull Genir Veterude. During all the bailing, he was unattended. Kenndak had been injured trying to keep the flame lit on the top of Pastavol, and was badly bruised by a flying shutter. In the hubbub of trying to seal the Zirakil, no one had noticed the old dwarf's quiet trial as he prayed to the Stars and Celanta.
In the meantime, Doph is quite mad at himself for not planning proper drainage in the cellars. But despite his self-directed anger and his grief, Doph reognizes how fortunate his family and the hamlet of Para Bay really are. He tells Jack, Elben, and Wynston that he is striking 20 silver coins at his families expense, one for the Genir's to keep, the rest as family keepsakes. They will all be stamped with the willow tree.

Year 1, Month 13, Day 2
Almost every home had some level of repair, the fields flooded, but luckily the last were harvested a week before.
Brother Jeradah visited Kenndak to offer some healing to his bruised leg, when three zombies attacked the entrance of the Veterude hall. Dolf dispatched one with his great hammer, when Bros. Jeredah managed to turn the other two unto destruction. The last zombie corpse turned out to be the initially buried drunkard. Jeredah, through a speak with dead, learned his name was Aerod Plum with a troubled history. The priest laid him back into the grave, blessed it and placed a marker with his name on it, giving him proper honor and perhaps a final death.
Brother Aval was in a state of deep communion for much of the day to the consternation of Perita and others. At his awakening he began to furiously write the holy words, and rites important to his goddess.
That afternoon a family of fisherman came afoot on the River Road, begging for assistance as the storm took all they possessed. Zhakos TeDre, his wife Ohma and their lovely daughter Khara, a dark-skinned family from the West Isles, whose fishing boat struck the reef, throwing them all into the lagoon. They managed to reach the shore, but lost all else.
Kreb Vaal invited the family to stay with them, until better accomadations were available.
The village threw a celebration at the Blue Crab in the name of Brother Jeredah. He thanked them all, but declined to partake of the ale - drinking water only. They asked what they could offer him, Jeredah said, "Build me a school house that can serve as an infirmary, please."

Year 1, Month 13, Day 9
Wynston is forced to make use of his "badge" for the first time since being chosen, when the new town drunk (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?46925.55) gets physical with Gledna Ceng one evening as she's walking home. Without the cells being completed yet, due to a slowdown on work after the storm, Wynston simply gives the man a good thwack on the head and chases him out of the village, but he decides that he will bring up the situation at the next meeting.
Dasdon and Rugin begin plans for a logging facility about 2 miles northeast of the village, well into Sharonn Forest's southern boundaries. They believe this will be far enough away from Wynston's hunting lodge so as not to scare away game, but far enough into the forest to provided adequate lumber. They have designed a mule-driven saw and several smaller units, and approach Doph about their construction.
Another family of refugees from the storm, two brother fishermen and their wives, make it to Para Bay, and ask for a place to stay. They are the Dalesvin family, and bring with them a horse-drawn cart filled with several crates of brown-tipped tilapia, and also a small crate of strawberries that the wife had grown. They offer these as price for a place to stay while they figure out what to do next. They are offered one of the rooms in the inn.
Perita and Brother Aval are busy preparing for the Autumn Equinox Festival. They have talked Nora into cooking several of her crab cakes, and Wynston will be hosting an archery tournament. That evening, beneath the stars, Brother Aval and Perita plan to open the shrine up with a small ceremony. They only have six more days to prepare...

Year 1, Month 13, Day 15 - Autumnal Equinox Festival
As dawn comes, people begin to bring out makeshift tables and benches, crates of crab, fresh produce, and Nora's already renowned Para Bay Crab Cakes fresh from her ovens. Kenndak, with his limp gone ably moves a cart of his brother's best brews to date laughing in discussion with Bros. Jeredah, whom he is now fast friends.
The ladies of the hamlet were in groups gossiping, exchanging recipes, or family advice. The men equally discussed current events, issues for the hamlet board, or just how lovely the Dalesvin wives are.
Wynston took the first prize, though Graden proved a close second - the prize being a cask of Gastax XXX, Wynston proved his good heart by sharing it with all six contestants.
Everyone, even the newcomers were preparing for the days games - placing stuffed targets as arrow targets, the children were busy playing "Orcs and Borderguards", though not many were playing the side of the "orcs". The hamlet was buzzing. There were drinking contests, a song challenge between the Ceng siblings, an early evening dance. Even Kreb told bawdy fisherman's tales that caused suchgreat laughter, Elben nearly choked on a fishbone, except for the womenfolk covering their ears.
The day proved to be a celebration of survival, prosperity and hope, most of all everyone, even Bros Jeredah visited Celanta's shrine placed an offering of thanks and a moment of prayer. Although not intended to be solemn, everyone felt a sense of belonging in this place of power and fellowship.
Before the events were brought to an end, Brother Aval asked if the hamlet would make a collection of blankets, foodstuffs and other necessities, as well as Goskin's boat and helmsmanship to taking relief supplies up and down the coast. With the influx of storm refugees, the hamlet's fortune should be shared with the less fortunate. All agreed to donate something, even the newcomers, though they had little to give. Goskin would be taking the boat along with Brother Aval, Perita and several others to do some relief work.
This first Autumnal Equinox Festival was a complete success. Everyone went home with hope in their hearts.

Year 1, month 13 day 17
(Which to the 'VolkGara' (Mountain people), would be the Month of Memory, in the Fourth Year of the Broken Door)
Doph has thrown himself into the task of designing the saw for the mill. He recomends either a stream driven unit or a wind driven unit. The Volkgara of the Whiskanis use 2 windmills, and he and Kenndak are more used to the wind version with a pitman arm. But the stream version will work better in the forest, and eventually, he says, you'll need the stream to bring more lumber. Doph says he still needs til the end of the month until the Pastavol forge is relit, before he could start anything. Late into the evening, Dasdon and Rugin sit with Doph and Kenndak over Gastax XXX,
Jormdak Goas Veterude, a middleaged dwarf from the Whiskandir mountains, and his two boyish daughters, Kimmie and Bittie, [note=the name]
Jormdak Goas Veterude means Jormdak of the Goas family of the Veterude clan, just like Doph Genir Veterude means Doph of the Genir family of the Veterude clan.[/note]arrive on the morning of the 16th. Jormdak is a bit of a stormcloud, with black hair and a negative view, but the Goas have been 'underallied' with the Genirs for years, so if a large portion of the Genirs decide to stay in the Snarulo, it is the duty of some Goas to come to help them. Jormdak is actually happy to get out of the oppressive Whskandir hive, since his family has been low-born for centuries. Here, he is under only one family. He respects Doph and served under Hull, so he is looking forward to a stay.
Kimmie and Bittie are young, and are happy to be reunited with Bixanna and Vexanna.
[note=Underallied] A dwarven situation where one family owes a kind of fealty to another family, due to economic situation, deeds in war, etc.[/note]
Venndak has been busy as well. He has been making nails, tools, the 6 'constable's whistles' are done, a frame for a sign on the Blue Crab, 80 serrated arow heads and 88 hunting arrow heasd. Vaxanna has been in and out, enlarging the kiln near the new north entrance on Pastavol.

Year 1, Month 13, Day 24
The first snows have come into the coastal community. Quickly melting away with the noon sunshine, but the northern spirits are once again visiting the warmer southland coasts - a first winter for the hamlet.
Most of the construction projects are complete, while there's much to do for the lumber mill, a last minute rush of current building projects get underway hoping to beat the heavier snows to come.
The bakery was finished in time for Nora Bumfiedel to begin expermenting with a curious variety of mint species and honey to develope a honey mint cake or roll, for the winter solstice fest.
Brother Jeredah has begun teaching to basic education to 11 students of varying ages, including Graden the eldest in class, as he's eager to learn to read and write. Subjects include history, science, mathematics, logic - though most of his efforts for now is reading.
The storm relief boat finally returned to harbor having replaced its former cargo of necessities with 2 entire families and the tools of their livelihood - the Potters and the Thatchers (both names and occupations). Two other boats followed in within the hour including and estranged fisherman and crew who lost their homes while at sea and a fast sloop mercantile.
Brother Aval is thankful to his mistress, Celanta for the bounty to give beyond the cove.

Jack caught a strange boy snooping around in his store. When he pressed the boy for what he was doing he admitted that he had run away from an orphanage and was really hungry. He adamantly refused to tell which orphanage he had ran away from though, and instead pleadingly asked jack if he could stay in Para Bay.
Jack for now has agreed to let him stay with him as long as he pulls his own weight by helping out with errands and chores. After a bit more pressing though the boy broke down and admitted he hadn't run away by himself.
Jack now has found himself looking after three young helpers (two young teenage boys and a girl of about 10). He plans on discussing the matter at the next meeting however since he feels that if they can find where the kids are from they should be sent back there.

Nora Bumfiedels visits Jack and asks if he would allow the young orphan girl, Noni, could spend some time at the mill, working at the Bakery Ovens. Nora has no children, thus no apprentice to take on her trade. Jack insists that these children may not be staying in Para Bay for long, so an apprenticeship may not be viable. However, sending away one of the hungry mouths is not against Jack's thinking. Besides the thought of sweet cakes whenever she wants it, Noni pleads Jack to let her work at the bakery. So Nora got her apprentice.
Brother Jeredah insists that the children attend the village school at least half their days as education is of paramount importance. Against the children's pleas, Jack and Nora, said of course. And they were immediate sent to school.
The first crab cage is completed and Goskin and his men lower it into the bay, securing it fast on the rocky shore.
Fenster, daring to be different, begins to build his own a private mercantile portage on the small islet beside is barely erected shop-home, just beyond the cove mouth to the north.

The orphans have made themselves quite useful and Jack can't help but smile when he sees his two new helpers plowing along with their chores. James and Corey he has discovered are apparently brothers and it shows in how they work together.
Noni is still staying at Jack's place and every night fills everyone's ears with stories about how great working at the bakery is. She brought in some of the food she has helped out on and the next time Jack sees Nora he can't help but exclaim that her new student is going to make an excellent baker.
All three children have also been attending Brother Jeredah's school. All three actually end up enjoying it very much. Especially the younger brother James who is apparently a natural at math.
Meanwhile Doph has managed to create the parts needed to begin construction of the mill works just in time for heavy snow to start falling. He hoped to have been done much earlier but problems with the forge had delayed him. He manages to deliver the parts to Dasdon and Rugin and apologizes for his tardiness in doing so. They however tell him it is fine, they are simply happy to have the parts. The village wakes up to a sheet of ice covering the ground. Wynston is the first to notice this, as he slips and bruises his arm badly - possibly even breaking it. He is helped over to Aval Mallen who makes a sling for him and tells him to move his arm as little as possible.
As he is unable to hunt, Wynston sets up a few traps in the forest, hoping to still catch some game.

Year 1, Month 15, Day 2
After a heavy overnight snowfall most felt compelled to stay-in, but not the children. It was time for snowball fights, building snow trolls and snow angels. Nolan Valkalan's youngest daughter, Nedra was seen by her siblings speaking with an invisible child, as she told them and following it into the woods. After an hour of frantic searching the children came crying to their father and reported Nedra as missing.
Meanwhile, before the alarm was raised for hamlet to make a search, Dasdon and Rugin find the sawmill site in shambles, tools and casks of nails are spilled or missing. Rugin even twisted an ankle when he fell into a small covered pit just a foot deep. It was just then a beating cauldron by Jack on his front porch, like a bell to summon the hamlet folk for a new emergency.
