So, I was browsing through some old materials of mine, particularly the superhero ones, and I was also trying to think of a fun use for the Wiki as a community project that wouldn't just be a different version of CeBeGia (which I plan on working on more.) Suddenly, it hit me - why not make a superhero setting on the wiki? Superhero worlds in comics are almost always joint ventures, with different writers and editors taking over various comics at various times, creating new story arcs and characters, changing existing ones, and playing with continuity all over the place.
So, here's how I envision this Wiki. The setting would be Earth, and would feature mainly real cities (though if you want to add a new city/country, feel free to.) In the fine tradition of comics, society is almost the same as it is now, with the exception of new corporations/organizations that exist within it. The only real difference is superheroes. Like the big comic companies, characters can have a wide variety of origins - genetic mutants, aliens, experiments gone wrong, technology, magic, training, etc. The wiki members create characters and organizations, or add to existing ones and weave them together.
Example:
User 1 creates character 1, and makes him a member of team 1 - listing a number of other members, some of which have brief descriptions on their own pages, others without.
User 2 enlarges the description of one of the members of team 1 (character 2), and edits character 1's back-story to include a friendly rivalry between the new member and character 1.
User 3 creates a villain that has a history of opposition to team 1, and edit's character 1 and 2's pages to reflect this enimity.
User 1 enlarges another of the members of team 1, and creates an entirely new hero unrelated to the team - but still mentions that at one point came into conflict with the villain.
Etc.
Who'd be interested? If I have enough interest, I'll create a base wiki page and template over the weekend.
I would be very entertained to watch this project grow, and I'm sure I would contribute here and there.

I think it sounds like a neat idea, but I don't want to say for or against - I don't think I have the time to commit to it. I already have a bunch of tabs of other posts or campaign settings that I would like to read through, but haven't been able to yet.

I have some old superheroes I made and never did anything with (complete with super-duper HM sketchythingies) and I will contribute them!
@Neubert: I totally understand - but the best part is, it doesn't have to be a high commitment thing. If you decide you just want to add one random, paragraph long hero for someone else to expand, feel free to!

I am assuming that the whole point of that example was to illustrate that we're all allowed (and expected) to add to and alter each other's characters, and that we can make contributions that are as simple or as elaborate as we want.
I really doubt any kind of "You can write heroes
or villains, but not both!" restriction is what is being implied.
LC has it right - that was just to illustrate that you can add whatever you want whenever you want in whatever amount you want.

Also, I'd recommend linking to any character/organization you name, so people can see what hasn't been created yet. That's just a suggestion, though: this is intended to be as open ended as possible. :)
So, I added the first superhero, and I noticed something:
while typing Guild_Superheroes: before every new page allows for organization, it also makes each page clumsy to type. Should we keep it with that prefix, or would it be easier to remove it and just link directly to the pages without the Guild_superheros: before it?
(Basically: should a superheroes page be "superheroname" or "Guild_Superheroes:Superheroname"}
EDIT: After talking on the discussion page of the wiki, I'm deciding to leave it as is unless someone has a strong objection.
