Hullo everyone,
Please submit in this thread if you would like your campaign to be selected for Showcase at week 2. Sunday, May 7, we'll roll again to see who is Showcased next week.
Cheers!
Update:Here are the campaigns thus far.
*Datrik - Xanthan, Last of the Fallen
*Red Valor: Project 1301 - Elven Doritos
*Dystopia - Salcious Angel
*Sulos - nastynate
I'm going to drop in Datrik this time. C'mon post apocalyptic steampunk lovecraftian horror with a twist of lemon!
Red Valor: Project 1301's up again. I'll be producing more content throughout the week, though all the established RV canon is still applicable for review.
Dystopia (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?3839.0) for the win, baby!
(That is, count me in)
I want in again too. Sulos is in the mix.
A couple thoughts on this to get it a bit more organized this time (since last time ended up being relatively spur-of-the-moment). How about, if your setting is picked, and you have your own site (or like Turin, a hosted site here), you designate a page for placing all the reviews? Also, Turin never got back to me on this, but next time, I would like the "winner" to write up some of their thoughts, inspirations, and details of the campaign for me to put on the News article on the front page.
I did actually. I sent you the following PM last Monday:

That's about it I think. Do you think the intro is long/short enough?
Túrin
[/quoteI was surprised you hadn't used it... Sorry everyone for this miscommunication.
Túrin
Hmmm, I never received that... I'll copy it now and put it in the news article.
BTW, Turin, that's a good format, I think we'll make it pretty standard. Cheers!
Okay, is there anything in particular we should differently this next time around? Turin's was an excellent start, because it's a very well-detailed world, but it doesn't seem that people are reviewing the way they thought they would. Any thoughts on what else we can do here?
I'm going to pull out of the running for this week. I think we need to showcase one of the other three setting, try and pimp it some on the WotC boards AND on Giant ITP, two of the largest dnd focused boards I know about.
We really need to get the CBG moving and active. Just my 2cents.
That's fine, but there are plenty of other forums you should look at as well. Enworld, DnDResources, Myth-Weavers, 3rdEdition.org, etc, etc. Another thought is, maybe we should turn it into a bi-weekly showcase, instead of weekly, to give people more time to do their reviews.
In my opinion bi-weekly wouldn't be such a good idea. Sure, weekly seems kind of short, especially if you're on vacation or too busy to come online and see the campaign of the week. But bi-weekly is too long I think, especially if the community continues to grow. We'd never get around to everyone if that happens, which I assume is the eventual intent of the Campaign Setting Showcase.
:worried:
I'll be rolling d4 in about 1.5 hours (9:00 PM EST) for the campaigns in the list above. If there are any last-minutes wanting to be in the roll, hurry up.
I still think we should possibly extend the time alotted for Showcase... Turin didn't get hardly any reviews, and he has one of the most detailed settings around here; I hate to see the lack of reviews involved in some settings that aren't very detailed yet..
Perhaps make the showcase last for 2 weeks, but we have a new setting every week, so there are 2 settings per week, the old seting of the week and the new?
That's a pretty good idea, Xanthan. Anyone else have some opinions for this?
Eep. Ignore.
I'm sorry, it was a bad week for me, I'll do a review for Orden's as soon as possible...
1 - Datrik - Xanthan, Last of the Fallen
2 - Red Valor: Project 1301 - Elven Doritos
3 - Dystopia - Salcious Angel
4 - Sulos - nastynate
DRUM ROLL...

Sulos is the winner, congrats nastynate, I'll send you a PM soon with what I need to post an article.
Woot! what do I win?
Ishy I sent you the info requested, but for any who want to get a head start, the link to Sulos is my sig.
-Peace-
Quote from: IshmaylThat's a pretty good idea, Xanthan. Anyone else have some opinions for this?
How about one setting per week, but if there's unusually slow traffic during that week, the administrator has the option of keeping the Setting of the Week in place for one extra week?
Only problem being that the decision would ultimately be somewhat arbitrary. While Ishmayl is doubtless a sound and level-headed individual, I would personally prefer a more concrete and predictable system like the one proposed by Xathan.
We would doubtlessly keep more people happy if everyone knew they were getting the same amount of showtime, and fluctuating between one and two weeks wouldn't achieve that.
I agree with Salacious Angel, but if a one-two week system is used, an extension should be the decision of the person whose turn it is next, not the administrator, to make sure nobody is upset. At the very least the administrator shouldn't extend it unless that person agrees.
I like the idea of alternating 2-week Showcases every 1 week ;) I know that sentence didn't really make much sense, so I just refer back to Xanthan:
Quote from: XanthanPerhaps make the showcase last for 2 weeks, but we have a new setting every week, so there are 2 settings per week, the old seting of the week and the new?
So, in that case, weekly showcase #2 is nastynate, and Turin's stay's up until next week.
I just wonder if having two showcases at once is going to split attention between the two of them, thereby reducing the feedback on both.

It may, but it gives the current showcase creator something to look at other than his own setting. The showcase is something we'll have to play by ear, until we get a good feel for the way it works. This is a new idea, and I'm sure it will take a while to work the kinks out.
nasty, those're exactly the thoughts I was thinking. It's pretty important that we don't just try to set something in stone right up front, because as ingenius as many of our ideas are, they may not work 100% right up front.
As for the format: I was already wondering why nastynate's intro looked so much like mine. ;)
Also, not to sound impatient or anything, but is there a set amount of time before I can put up Orden's Mysteries as a candidate again without annoying anyone?
So far, the system seems good. I agree we need to wait a while before setting things in stone, but at least I got some good thoughts for Orden's Mysteries and I imagine nasty will as well. You know I love you nasty, so please don't be upset if I don't find time to post in your thread this week. ;)

Becuase you rock the Hizzy! (and Ishy requested I use your format)

We probably wanna let other people play first. No worries though, since this week, my setting is up for review, you can expect me to finish reviewing yours.

Everyone loves Nasty. You have given me plenty of feedback in past Turin; I won't hold it against you if you don't have time this week.
-Later-
Turin, my first thoughts on the "time limit" would be that after your setting is chosen, you should wait 4 weeks before submitting. That means, at best, with really weird randomality coming into play, someone could have their setting showcased basically once a month. What do you guys think?
I'm fine with any period. 4 sounds good.
Okay, 1 vote for 4 weeks; anyone else?
