So, I'm thinking of a Live Chat Event, possibly in the upcoming month to coincide with the Guildies Award Ceremonies, and I thought it would be fun to have some campaign setting trivia (http://www.thecbg.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?51083.last). I was thinking that anyone who would want to have their campaign setting featured in a trivia tourney-royale could email me a list of questions (with answers!) about their setting, and I could pick questions from various peoples' lists and have some contests (with prizes!). Of course, these questions would have to be some that could be answered by perusing the information here on the site (not on some external site). What do you guys think?
Sounds good. Although, all three of my settings don't have nearly enough info to get trivia from x.
After the event itself, why not program some sort of trivia bot?
Over at Conceptart.org, they have voicechat events running every friday, all day long. Maybe we could mark a day on the calendar every month for people to try and show up on the CBG channel, so everyone could hang out.
Yeah, I would like to see something like that as well, but I feel like having something going on (an event, if you will) would be a good way for people to actually stick around and be not-bored.
What about something like an author Q&A?
I don't know how well it could work, but something like the Setting Showcase, but live and for less complete settings. Run it every two or so weeks. The chosen author puts up a list of things from their setting that they want to focus on two weeks before the Q&A session, giving people time to read it. Then when the "chat event" comes the author can ask questions to those around and those around can ask questions about the setting. Basically a scheduled focused live help session.
I don't know, it is just something that is rattling around in my sleep deprived head...
That is actually a very awesome idea. In fact if we had that weekly I know I would make it a habit to show up (and I would LOVE to talk about UR with others).
The trivia thing is also good (I could easily set that up if we wanted... along with other games).
I think that's a neat idea, Poseidon, but I have the sneaky suspicion that it will receive just as much attention as Showcase does/did... maybe a couple people would show up the first few times, and then it would just fade away... that seems to be "par for the course" 'round these parts.

I suspect the same, that's why I said I don't know how well it will work.
Well, maybe first thing is to see if we can reliably get groups of people on the IRC channel at the same time. You can get some really good feedback on IRC because simple questions and comments are easier to ask on IRC than the boards. It could be very stimulating, but...
First, you've got to get enough people on the channel so there's a decent chance some of them will be interested. There's a lot of settings here that I don't pay much attention to, not because they are bad, but just because they aren't my cup of tea. Any kind of "Featured Setting" event is going to suffer from the same issues.
Second, you've got to have someone to take the lead, maybe with some canned questions for an IRC "interview" to get the ball rolling. Otherwise people will just hang out and talk about the weather.
Well, I've been regularly on the channel since its inception, as has Joker (Troll), snakefing, and Higgs. Nomadic has shown up quite a few times, as has Lord Vreeg, and even Eldo shows up every now and then. LC has been there once (that I know of), and I imagine some other people I have missed. That's a very small percentage of the site so far, so maybe some other people (especially those who have been asking me to have a chat channel for 2 years now! :) )will show up soon.
