Title: In search of a generous soul
Post by: Ishmayl-Retired on August 21, 2008, 10:20:46 AM
Hey folks,
I'm looking for someone to create some art for me.  While I can hash out some people-looking art-esque pieces every now and then, I'm no good with anything stylized or colorized.  The theme of the art is "Turtles All the Way Down," and I'm looking for essentially a banner that is 800x155 (ish).  I like artsy, I like sketch drawing, I like stick figures, I like cartoon-ish, I like my avaturtle.  Not really looking for photorealistic.  If anyone is interested, let me know - otherwise, I'll be forced to count on myself, which usually doesn't turn out very well. :)

Can you elaborate on this expression a bit? (I immediately see the professors of the Unseen University argue violently over whether there a elephants standing on Great A'Tuin's back or smaller turtles, and I doubt that's what you're looking for. . .)

That is not what I'm looking for, you're right, but I don't want to limit anyone's creativity (which is why I didn't specify anything other than the phrase).  Without going into too much detail, I'm writing a series of gaming-related articles about story elements and realistic depictions in RPGs, and the series is entitled (because of a couple of themes I'm writing about), "Turtles all the way Down."

Oh, well in that case the image is highly appropriate. After all, we can't let the Round Worlder's screw up a perfectly realistic and functional cosmology with ridiculous flight's of fancy like "gravity," "inertia" and "giant elephants". It's turtle's all the way down.  Kinda funny to find the link to this in the Discworld(world) entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtles_all_the_way_down)

I see a combination of newton sitting under a tree but instead of a falling apple it is a falling baby turtle (no doublt droped by an AFRICAN swallow) and after it hit him in the head he gets an inspiration or idea light bulb. "Turle storming"

ME ME PICK ME!!! Seriously cartoonography is one of my best styles (see my signature, that is only a quick sketch I did in 5 minutes :P ). Though I would like a better idea on what you want (trust me, giving me your ideas on what you want doesn't limit me at all).

Let's see what ya got! :)  I love your sig, something in a similar style would be fantastically perfect.

I think, for ideas, I picture possibly a turtle on the back of an obvious turtle shell, maybe in a background reminiscent of primordial ooze or space?   Just a thought, let me know what you think, or if you have some better ideas.

I figured that you said banner up top so you meant a standard banner. Anyhow here it is. Tell me what you think.

It is a mix of cartoon and realism (I can swap out the realism if you want it completely cartoony though).

Thanks. Oh I almost forgot to highlight in all the eyes. Here is that fixed (you may notice that the little turtle is now even more cute with his eye shine).

Why do I get the feeling this term is going to stick around this site now?

As the mighty ish has requested. Here is a larger version.

[/spoiler]

Split it evenly between sides so it could actually stretch along the top of two pages.

Hey Nomadic, what font did you use for that?  I'm trying to make a 170x50 button, and like that font, but don't think I have it on my computer (haven't found it yet if I do).

It's called Hobbit SF and I believe it is a default windows font. If you can't find it let me know and I will upload it so you can grab it.

I thought I would take this time to introduce "half" of the project I'm working on that required Nomadic's generous and frakkintastic artwork.  The first half of this project, which has been in the works for a little while now, is a blog I'm working on.  Mostly, it is to chronicle the development of my campaign setting, as well as the events of the current campaign I'm running in the setting.  I am also, yes, planning on using it as a soap box on which to stand while I introduce the world to all sorts of turtley goodness.

The second part of the project is still under wraps, due to an agreement with a third party, but hopefully that will be ready to go within a month or so.

Cheers!

Heh, I don't usually read blogs, but that sounds sweet enough to give it a look. Looks nice, at a glance, too. Did you set up the whole color-scheme, or just the banner?
