Edit:

Never been a huge fan of the Avett Brothers, but the Ben Folds is golden.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the person in that video you have a crush on is:

Almost!

The Gideon's Press song is pretty sweet-- I'm going to have to check that out more thoroughly. I'm also glad you posted the Batman thing, because I didn't want to be the first person to get silly up in heah.

The shame is, Gideon's Press is not around anymore. :(  They changed their name to "The Illustrated Band" back in '04 or so, and I played keyboards with them in a benefit show they did in Georgia.  They broke up after their next album.  Both the guitarist/writer (Michael Blake) and the drummer are doing solo projects now, but nothing of the sort that is like GP/tIB.

And there's nothing silly about Batman.  EVER.

Don't expect anything from this.

Well, if people are going the YouTube route, I guess I will start with videos that I recorded and uploaded there. Beware, the quality is bad.
I don't think you're happy enough. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY65yF6PvYg&feature=channel_page)
These guys kept tripping the circuit breaker with those lights. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d4nks4IZZo&feature=channel_page)

And now, things I didn't record.
Don't knock it 'till you try it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvtDiPt6s24)
Back at school dances, I always grabbed someone for this song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b9juD3_4K8)
There's a chance I'm in this video somewhere. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfR82nM0tIQ)
Aside from being catchy, I kinda like the lyrics. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9L9fRzrjcI)
Honey, you're an idiot. Why don't you do it? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chiVMrWMHko)
I used to be very active on the forum that spawned this. Too bad it is now a land of lonely desolation. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0COO8t38Nk)
Local scene's finest. I might be in this one, too...maybe the on the stage, don't remember. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyKsvAXgIzc)
The video does no justice. They are an experience. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xH-vSfweq8)
Wasn't aware there was a video yet. Not for the easily offended. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_ZkUROJ86Y)
Somebody today, nobody tomorrow. I once thought this guy was dead. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qQyxhb4v3A)
Drugs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF6IOQguEjc)
I love this so much. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OMR4PE_Jfk)
To anyone who thought he didn't sound like that, I have seen it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_k5DP6NYz8)
Good guys, I know them. I may have been near the stage when this was recorded. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5T6aqmUB04)

Ugh...I know I'm forgetting so much great stuff. I'll just let ya'll chew on that for a while.

I like that "Waiting Through the Afternoon Song," and you can never really go wrong with David Bowie.  I'm curious, did Vanilla Ice really do that remake, or is that someone else?  (I don't know enough about Vanilla Ice to know if that was him or not, or what he's up to).

If you like both Jazz and Radiohead, this is for you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_4fiMIxO2E)
Live version of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS4UaWh0FOI)
More Ben Folds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ-omwxAwpU)
Phish songs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQo7Jj5pXwg) can be (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps1rsAUtLQk) really long! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpkv6EkpN78) (Yes, that's parts 1, 2, and 3 of the same song)
If you like awesome bass guitar and jazz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPBmyFsfyPc), then you already know who Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmoA8FwqF9I). (Another 2-part song... I like long music)
Clap for Pat! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEmL6tIaYWU)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oyGJOzDSgio <---saw them a week or two before they split up. One of the three best live acts I have ever seen.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yTek70IJwME <---absolute ch00n

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xQMMWe2L_ME <---another of the three best live acts I've seen. Having been at a live show this video seems a bit flat - there's a physical presence to their rhythms that just picks you up and shakes you around.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AbJH7p_JUDc <---just plain massive,

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ9uIzhf2ak <---the third, and also probably my favouritest band ever. The only halfway decent video I could find of them from the show I saw them at. I came out of there with footprints on my thighs. Immense.

EDIT: Now let's see, what other aspects of my taste in music do I need to cover? Lol. Well, I guess I should post some old ragga-jungle, some 2-tone, some dub, some old gypsy swing, some early 90s trancy stuff (Eat Static! W00t!), a big fat slice of punk, some noodly soloing jazz, and a wallop of Vivaldi. Or not, I can't really be bothered, but now at least I've mentioned it all :P

Or maybe "see it here quickly before it becomes worthless"

I saw some drunken diagonal-fringe kid in skinnies the other day wearing a t-shirt that said "girls heart breakcore" and it made me feel offended.

Although it is a bit rich of me to be elitist about it, I've hardly been with the scene since the beginning, in fact I'm not even with the scene, I just listen to the music a lot. A very lot, haha.

This rendition gives me new appreciation for one which had always been pretty much background music for me when played. I really like the moody acoustic guitar solo in some solid melatonin music (= doesn't sound right until after sunset - like everything by Sisters of Mercy. . .)

Yeah, I first heard them last New Year's Eve on some show hosted by Garrison Keilor on Pearls Before Swine. I'm not really into country (the Dickey Lee cut notwithstanding), but some of the classic sound I do enjoy. My general ringtone is the first "grown up record" I ever owned (http://songza.com/z/0c5hb2). (Won it, a 45 w/"The Unfaithful Servant" on the B-side, at some church function when I was 6. Been a fan ever since. . .)

Garrison Keillor is a god among mortals, it's true.

If you dig OCMS, you should give a try to the Avett Brothers, Crooked Still, the Wailin' Jennys, Nickel Creek, Strength in Numbers... should I keep going, or is that enough for a start?

good for now - I used to have NC's debut. New Grass can be hit/miss to my taste - OCMS has some I like (I love Wagon Wheel - and the video's fun) and some doesn't quite get there for me. The Band was quite consistent in its appeal - but note the rock elements. . . Not quite sure how to pin down when it does or doesn't - something often in the harmonies *but very dependent upon timbre/tonal qualities* - this reflects in my taste in other music too - I loved the vocal harmonies that ELO displayed in the mid -70's (I like the rawness of their first albums too. . .) but what I really liked about those harmonies was largely th e product of how their specific voices blended together.

BTW, while I'm not into gospel, one of the finest albums of all time was The Blind Boys of Alabama's "Spirit of the Century." (When I worked at Virgin in Denver we sold about 10 times more out of the Blues than the Gospel section. . .)

Gotta add my all time #1 favorite recording (http://songza.com/z/xfs75v). This introduced me to Van Morrison's work back when I was in Junior High (and still listening to glam rock. . .) and no matter how many times I listen to it, it just amazes me more. His vocal style here is the loosest I've heard him display over the decades yet, at the same time, the band (almost a semi-acoustic chamber orchestra) is phenomenally tight throughout and the thematic transitions absolutely seamless - the recording is flawless. What astounds me is that the performance sounds as if it were scored down to every note, but what Van did vocally makes that seem impossible - more like the composition was more of an outline of tightly scored passages which the musicians had thoroughly down along with an unshakable comprehension of, and ability to follow, his seemingly rambling repetitions. Later in the piece you'll hear what I mean - some of it just sounds like he couldn't have written it all out word-for-word/note-by-note - but it would make a stupendous challenge for the most improvisational jazz group to pull off this cleanly. So I just sit, smile like an idiot and shake my head in wonder for 15 minutes. . . Even if it's not really your thing, it's like nothing else you'll ever hear. Enjoy.

What I'll post is probably quite different than what most of you all like, but, I really think you should give it at least a try.

First off, a playlist of a concert (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=591F1AA945E11C61); it was so hot the band was getting heat fatigue and had to end the show early.  (That's nine songs, right there folks.  I've already beaten all of you! :p)

I'd recommend #4 and #9 if you don't feel like listening to the whole thing.

Maybe more later.
