Title: Franken-setting
Post by: Loch Belthadd on February 01, 2009, 09:39:09 PM
This is an idea me and some of my GM friends tried out a while ago. The idea is to adopt things from other settings to make a whole new setting. Does anyone want to try this?

Step one: Describe "this."

the idea is to take things from different settings and blend them into an entirely new setting. If anyone wants to work on this they can donate something from their setting, such as a city, race, country, or whatever.

Chances are this won't go anywhere but...

*groan* how is this any different that what we regularity do? (http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/larry_lessig_says_the_law_is_strangling_creativity.html)

I don't think folks'll even consider this project without some sort of "bud".  We need an idea of some central structure upon/within which the frankenstein-y elements will be injected, an idea of the general direction you want to head in, the tone, hemes, blah blah blah.

Are you thinking a satirical, pastiche sort of world, a la Diana Wynne Jones's Tough Guide to Fantasyland, or a more serious project?  Do you want folks to contribute things that are actually in their settings as posted or the "deleted scenes" that never made the cut?

This could go somewhere, but not if folks feel like they're donatingideas to a project with no individual, intrinsic merit.

Subversive link is subversive.

But valid... technically.

I guess that would be up to the first poster. I would post something but all of my stuff is in analog format and I am too lazy to type it. There could be several small campaigns with different themes and types.
