Title: Sabbat Campaign
Post by: Numinous on February 04, 2009, 01:26:29 AM
[ooc]This is a thread for world information and eventually a campaign journal for the campaign that I am running this semester.  As such, my players shouldn't be reading it.  That means Truman, Claire, Anthony, and Jeremy can stop reading now.[/ooc][ic=Introduction]Nobody knows what happened in the beginning.  Some say the world was born of Gaea and Uranus, birthing the Titans who ruled the early world.  Others follow the rather unconventional view that Atum ejaculated the universe into existence.  Regardless, these theories have been repressed and discredited for ages, at least since God, let's call him Richard, came on the scene.  Now Richard claimed humanity for his own children, and his angelic host helped him sweep the earthly realm clean of any who would contradict him.  There was resistance of course, but this was swiftly crushed and the other deities and supernatural beings of the world who weren't exiled to the void between the stars or bound in captivity retired from their duties.  After usurping the throne at whose foot humanity worshiped, Richard began to obsess over his favorite toys and neglect the angels who had helped him claim the dutiful worship of his new pets.  Growing discontent with his neglect, an angel known as Lucifer, er, Lucy rather decided to raise her sword against the heavenly father in protest.  The revolution shook Heaven to it's very foundations, but Lucy and her companions were eventually defeated and cast down.

Of course, that's all ancient history.  For ages now, Lucy and her original accomplices have wandered between earth and the fiery realm of Hades causing all sorts of trouble for Richard Almighty.  Why he hasn't stopped them is a question for another day, but recently this spat between children has grown more serious and the sides have grown more vicious in their conflict.  The Reckoning is coming, and soon.  Both sides have much to lose, for Lucy can face only a fate worse than death, while Richard could lose his carefully constructed Paradise and see the entirety of his pets, the humans, turned away from his worship.  Now the terms have been set and the war begins, as the underworld marshals it's forces, one soul and disgruntled deity at a time.[/ic][ic=Act I]The day is June 4, 1929.  The stage, New York City at the height of the roaring twenties.  The American Dream is attainable, cultures blend in a cosmopolitan whirlpool, and the debauchery of man shines amidst the steel and glass towers that are a testament to hubris.  What better place is there for the agents of chaos to wage their guerrilla war against God himself?

Frequenting speakeasies, brothels, and worse, the unlikely allies will seek to recruit powerful beings and gather artifacts of great power to further their own goals and strengthen the forces of Hell in anticipation of The Reckoning[/ic]

[ic=The Cast]All good dramas have a good cast, and this is no exception.
Richard commands a host of angels and holds the faith of billions in his divine hands.  Unfortunately, his most prized possession, the mortal humans and their fickle faith, is the key to his undoing.  By valuing the corruptible and temperamental humans above all else, he leaves himself open to attack on the battlefield known as earth.  While he is extremely powerful and unfathomably wise, it is unknown whether he is actually omniscient or omnipotent and so the forces of Hell continue their war against his carefully constructed world and it's laws undaunted by the odds, driven onward by the price of failure.

Richard's defining characteristics are his obsession with order, faith, and humanity.

The mastermind behind the current plots, Beelzebub is busy pulling the strings of hundreds of earthly agents to tip the balance in favor of Hell when the Reckoning comes, as well as put his own interests on top when the end-times come.
[/ic][note=]Updates forthcoming[/note]

Not quite.  But thanks for the thought.

Richard is certainly an interesting name for a god. That could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. The same goes for the fact that such an unusual name automatically makes the setting at least a little memorable.

Good luck with the campaign. I may check back here from time to time.
