Title: [Urbis] Dartmouth
Post by: Jürgen Hubert on June 19, 2006, 02:15:38 AM
I realized some time ago that if I wanted to publish my setting, I would have to create a "sample city" so that game masters could see for themselves how the cities look like in practice and also have a default "home base" for their campaign. Thus, I set out to detail the city of Dartmouth, which you can find here (http://urbis.wikidot.com/dartmouth).

(Incidentally, when I came up with the name, I honestly no idea that there was a real city called "Dartmouth" out there... But I am sticking with the name now.)

So far, most of the material on the city is in the History section. Dartmouth is loosely inspired by London (though there are of course significant differences - its continental location, smaller size, lack of a monarchy, and of course magic and all those fantasy races...), and I wanted to give a feel of how the city came to be what it is now - a chaotic, bureaucratic mess which nonetheless somehow keeps on functioning and is even vibrant and economically booming.

What do you think of the writeup so far?

It's been some time, but I've expanded on the material on Dartmouth and posted the whole writeup here (http://urbis.wikidot.com/dartmouth). I've created all the boroughs I want to include - any more, and it will begin to feel bloated.

What I want to add now are interesting sublocales - places that would make for good adventuring locales.

Any suggestions?

I've updated the links to the current size. I've also finally created an overview map of the city:
