Title: Show off your desktop
Post by: Nomadic on February 06, 2010, 07:00:11 PM
I'm bored, let's show off our awesome desktops (please try to shrink your images down so you don't blow up the thread :P ).

I'm dual boot Windows 7/Ubuntu 9.04 so I have two snazzy ones:

Windows 7:

I had to make sure there wasn't anything I didn't want to show on the 'net, but there isn't.

This is my XP laptop, running on just a 1.0ghz pIII and 512mbs of SDRAM. Yeah, it's severely overworked and overaged. I need a new one >.<

The background image is a picture I took at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, on the Winchester and Potomac Railroad Bridge, which spans the Potomac River.

Somebody's[/i] hiding weapons plans on their desktop.

TheMeanestGuest:
Use post reply button, go to upload file or whatever button, then hit preview instead of reply. The preview will include a link to your image you just uploaded. Repeat the process, going to upload file again, for as many images as you need. I believe that works. It may not work for editing posts, only new ones.

Windows Vista (somewhat annoyingly).  The image is of a Spawn of Tzeentch.  Incidentally this isn't too far from what I imagine a waxborn from CE would look like (just less blue).

Yeah, been a while since I cleaned up the desktop. Made the background myself.

My desktop is the teal color that was the default for Windows 95. And has been pretty much since then.  :D

This is my delicious desktopapotamus. I'm rocking Vista (which I've had no problems with, so don't say sorry), and my background is a map I'm currently working on. And yes! I play Fallout 2!

TMG and vincent, edited your posts to fix display problems

TMG: your image was too large for the forums so I shrunk it down

Vincent: tags are lowercase, so img instead of IMG

That is all ;)

Looks like the icon that Celestia used to use (don't know if it still does).

It's SkyGazer 4. Program I got with one of my textbooks, gives me a very useful piece of planetarium software. Don't know how it compares to Celestia, though.

Celestia is pretty FREAKIN' AWESOME as far as planetarium software goes. It lets you fly out through space and it's largely open source so you can mod the game and the engine (to a degree) to change various aspects. I heard about one guy modding it to switch the milky way out with the star wars galaxy.

On a more basic scale, I've seen people create and render entire solar systems for their campaign settings.
